[News] Left Tackle Eugene Monroe Discusses Future, Injuries

48 posts in this topic

We sure know how to squander funds lately, paying scrubs out of desperation, while we watch real homegrown Ravens walk. This is another example of a bad signing, thus earlydismissal, and more cap hell

Always cracks me up when I see these six and seven figure salary guys packing all their gear up in garbage bags.

They're probably two or three ply though.

On Monroe, the Ravens could either eat his full salary cap number for him to not play for us (injury) or less than his full salary cap number for him to not play for us (release). Either way, there's no reason why anyone should think he will actually significantly PLAY for the Ravens next year.

Monroe seems like one of these guys that gets what he wants and is then unapologetic of anything else. Nobody but Monroe really knows what's going on with his health or passion for football. So, I've decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he'll be back with a vengeance once his body heals up! However, I reserve the right to cry foul if his pattern of missing games with phantom injuries begins...

I like Monroe, I have faith in him to be healthy next year, and I am sick of having dead money count against the cap anyway

We are used to playing without him so logically he is expendable.  We should pick up a Patriots player.  They seem to protect Brady when all the parts fit. Time to vulture fest on their players.Once a player goes through that system they have another layer of experience.

You cut the bum when it costs u the least - after June 1. You back up your bet first by drafting Ronnie Stanley or Taylor Decker. The downside is if u think your team evaluates an OLB like Floyd or a DE like Buckner or a corner/safety like Ramsey or Alexander even more. Leave it up to the big boys who carry the weight and bring home the millions to figure this out.

Monroe has under achieved. Trade him or cut him post June 1. KO is more valuable than J. Smith , Webb, or Pitta yet he will probably be gone since not enough money with the cap situation. We never have enough money to keep good players. Tag KO at Guard this year and pay or draft LT next year.

They can clear a lot of cap space this year clearing out the dead wood as well as extend Joe's contract.  Also the team will start out with just $220k worth of dead money as opposed to the $24M it ended up with in 2015 so there will be more room to work with to perhaps offer K.O. franchise LT money.  Monroe's dead money is just $2.2M if cut after June 1st and frees up $6.5M in cap space.  Otherwise, as a Guard, with Monroe still on the payroll KO becomes impossible to resign with Yanda's new deal too.

Can we franchise tag KO at guard prices and have him play LT?

No - there is no separate tag value assigned to the various OL positions. There is only a single tag value for OL. This is why you would almost never see a guard receive a tag. The only OL that receive consideration for getting tagged are top-shelf LTs.

There is only a single value placed on the OL position for the purpose of the franchise tag. There are no numbers for 2016, but the number for 2015 for OL was $12.83M. We will see an increase to that already extraordinary number, so tagging KO isn't an option.

If we are to keep him (which as you indicate is unlikely) it will be by signing him to a contract. To do that we'd have to make some significant moves and will have to forego additions at other positions of need.

Put him in a trade Package for Draft picks ..get a 4,5,or 6 for him and move on from his contract altogether then invest it into KO's Resigning.. Its that simple. Maybe even toss Forsett into the package and upgrade the picks or to fill another need at a position

One thing is, he at least he has undergone surgery to repair the shoulder. Sometimes that can work, rather than letting it heal on it's own then linger on in the future.

I can't see how it could happen financially, but I would love to see Monroe gone and KO signed as our LT. Can't see it happening, though. Ozzie, it's time to pull off one of your miracles. Time to earn your Own big bucks, Oz. If we could just, somehow find a team that's desperate for a LT (and ain't too smart), trade him to get rid of his salary, and use that money, and then some, to sign KO, life would be sweet. I really, Really hate to see KO go.
