[News] Left Tackle Eugene Monroe Discusses Future, Injuries

48 posts in this topic

I wish him well, but he has to improve a lot if the Ravens are going to keep him and have him responsible for protecting Joe's back. I don't know what he was looking at, but from my perspective, he was pretty crappy, mediocre at best and awful at worst. He can't carry Osemele's shoes. If the Ravens want to keep Joe healthy, then they had better get Osemele back or pick a valid LT at No. 5.

I like Monroe.  He's a pretty good LT WHEN he plays.  Unfortunately for us, it hasn't been that much the past 2 years.  Crazy how he's only missed 3 games in the 5 seasons before joining the Ravens.  I hope this is just a bad streak for him and he can come back and stay healthy in 2016.

The shoulder injury I get but 4 games off from a concussion that nobody saw ? Come on man !

some have stayed out longer for concussions.  So I'm not surprised at all by this.

Is he in it for the money or does he actually want to play football and win Championships? Only time will tell!

That would be the 6.6 million dollar question that needs to be answered.

Well, heal up your shoulder and get ready to play. When you do suit up to play, make sure you put your heart and soul into it. This franchise trusted you enough to pay you top dollar. It is your turn to repay that trust with coming back and play hard and playing with passion. Rest for small bumps and bruises during the season is not an option for any football player nor should it be for you. Good luck Monroe, come back stronger than ever and prove the nay sayers wrong (me wrong)!

I mean, I get the frustration, but I don't really understand this notion of a player being injured frequently equating to a guy who doesn't want to play football.

Never quite understood that logic. As bad as Hurst was as his backup, its not like I think Monroe should just go out there and play to be a "tough guy", even when him playing is hurting the team.

A guy like his predecessor, McKinnie, was a good example of somebody who I thought didn't want to play football. A guy who couldn't control his weight at any point for many years, to the point where he wasn't in a condition to actually play. That's where I question desire.

I mean... why don't we accuse Webb of not wanting to play football? He's hurt just as often.

So much hate on monroe....do you people remember Bryant McKinnie? Eugene Monroe is ACTUALLY a good LT who tries. He has injury issues, EVERYONE GETS INJURED. He can't help it it's fluky.

You MUST have missed ALL the comments when he failed the conditioning test on the 1st day of training camp.

Apparently so, although they say that about everybody who fails the test, and some of our best guys have failed it annually.

"Left Tackle Eugene Monroe Discusses Future, Injuries" Good thing there was a comma there now that would be funny or intentional.

Monroe will be back. Just a tough stretch for him last couple of years. When he plays he does a good job. As far as all of you Pees haters the Ravens had the second best D in the second half of the season. Pees is a good coach and we should be happy to have him.

Jaguars just fired their Defensive coordinator, not sure why pees is not fired yet!

Probably b/c the defense was trending up to end the season.

Weeks 10-17, the defense ranked in the top 10.

Weeks 10-16, the pass defense ranked 1st.

Misleading weeks 10-16. They have contained PITT the last 2 Ben led games but the rest of those games the QB's they faced were bums. The one decent one in Wilson torched them at will without their 1-2 RB's. Alex Smith whom is a borderline #1 QB pretty much didn't even have to throw a pass.

As far as there being hate ... yeah, I mean there are always people who post things that go over the top. However, from my perspective - you have to at least admit there is cause for concern. Once the number of different injuries that occur reach 4, 5 and beyond, then it feels less fluky and more like a guy who has issues staying healthy enough to be on the field.

Few will argue that, when he's playing, he's more than adequate to play the LT role. The problem is this is starting to reach a point where it is hard for the team to depend on him. We can't roll into 2016 and hope his injury issues will just go away. Given the options that involve cutting him loose are not good ones, we likely keep him as the starter, but must find a better option for backing him up.

Going with Hurst again as the #2 LT is the kind of thing that has the potential to get Joe back on IR for another year (some would argue it is what got him on IR this year). If we go that route, this will be a make or break year for Monroe. If he goes through the 2016 campaign with even close to the same level of health issues he had this year, he will not be a Raven in 2017.

Right now the last thing we need is a new coordinator on either side of the ball. Pees is a good coach and so is Trestman. The #1 thing for me is if Perriman is the real deal or not. He is the key for us having an explosive offense.

Sort of a myth though. I did research on this on another thread...

The difference in teams between first 8 games and last 8 games was 10 yards a game on offense. That's it. There was virtually no difference in PPG on offense as far as our opponents from the first half to the second half.

Basically, there was not any significant difference in production between the offenses we played in the first half vs the second half.

Let's hope all the misery conspired this year, and a healthy '16 will follow. Monroe is a darn good left tackle when healthy. They paid him and hopefully he'll earn it next year. Along with Smith, Flacco, Gilmore, Forsett, Perriman, Zuttah, etc., etc., etc.

I wish we would've forced KO to be a left tackle and pay him $$ instead- he's better and younger than Monroe... the money would've been better off going there-- now we're going to see the same thing happen to Pernell and Torrey last year by seeing him go to another team...
