Going Tunsil is understandable, but then OL again is just dumb with our needs on defense.

If we got Fackrell in the third I would be okay with it because he is second round talent. We need to get back to running the football well. We need depth at the position considering we now have to slide Ryan Jensen or John Urschel to left guard. If either go down, our depth will start showing. Jensen has also had a few injuries during his career. Plus we need a good O-line to be able to throw it to Perriman and Wallace. That is what won us Super Bowl 47.

Jeff Risdon from Draft Breakdown released a mock today and he has us taking... Ezekiel Eliott. To say I was surprised would be an understatement, but at the same time I've always thought that we lack a worhorse back to carry the running game with power, something neither Allen nor Forsett can do. He gave us Josh Doctson in the 2nd, which I don't hate, but I think there would be better choices.

He copied my mock draft, eh...?

Edit: Just noticed the date on this. Wow that's a huge coincidence. Must make it true.

That was actually the starting point of the Eliott case here. I did a mock (with a trade back I believe) with Eliott a few days after seeing that, and of course everyone hated it, glad people start at least mentionning now :) he's still not my favourite in the first though

The thing to remember is that when PFF does a mock, they purely look at their grades and then plug in players in essentially the order that they graded out. It doesn't matter whether or not he's going to translate well to the NFL; he had a good college grade.

I honestly couldn't recall a single mock with Elliot in it before mine, but I had heard a little discussion here and there and saw a few people making some good cases for him to go top 5 and I thought, "Why not?"

Just in case you want to see what people were thinking of Eliott two months ago ;)

Untrue.  He had a single injury, a Jones fracture to his left foot.  He had apnea problems his second year.  No longer a concern.  His NFL career he has only had the single injury.

He had a concussion. But I was mainly talking about a few minor injuries in college. While they haven't taken a toll yet in the NFL I do not think we can sit on Urschel and Jensen. I love them both and they showed tremendous upside but I am concern how each will play this season. If one goes down as well I am not sure we have a quality guy afterwards. I think a guard in the 2nd could be a smart way to go. Especially when I am still curious about if Urschel retires early to continue in a career in Mathematics. Monroe, Zuttah and Wagner have all also been dealing with injuries the last few years. Our entire offensive line is in constant shuffle it feels like every year. Depth would be nice even with the upside of Urschel and Jensen.

Not a fan of Martin with our second though... Bringing two OL in the first rounds wouldn't be what I call instant coffee

I disagree. Martin becoming our center and moving Zuttah over to KO's old spot would be instant coffee. And, while there may be some growing pains in the beginning, the additions of Tunsil and Martin could give the Ravens the best offensive line in the division, and one of the best in the NFL. Dominating the line of scrimmage makes everyone else on the offense instantly more effective.

To be honest, Martin isn't a bad player not at all. But I'd pick a CB or pass rusher early 2nd and wait for Martin to see him slide in the 3rd or I'd get Tuerk he fits the schemes

That's right.  He did take a bell ringer in the 3rd pre-season game, I believe.  He turned an ankle when he was rolled up on in a college game.  He had a carryover elbow issue from HS, but he was pretty much bullet-proof his last two years in college. He missed one game in two years due to an ejection from a game. I follow D2 pretty closely, especially the RMAC and the lineman in that group.

I would not waste a second round pick on a guard.  A fifth or sixth rounder would probably do.  If Urschel or Jensen get dinged, we could go out on the market and obtain a guard.  The thing about depth (quality depth) is how hard it is to keep it around.  Urschel and Jensen are starter quality players.  Pick high in the draft for a guard, and sit one or both.......you are going to have agents knocking on doors asking about letting them explore other playing opportunities.  Players with recognizable talent arent' going to remain on the pine for the sake of guaranteeing depth for a club for long.  Jensen is an ERFA this year and then he is a FA.  He isn't going to want to sit and miss out on building a case for a good contract next year.

Urschel and Jensen could start week 1 for just about anyone if called upon........and play well.  Just my take on it!

Your strategy seems sound. Nice post. We may need to be able to do a reset.

Mel kiper got us taking zeke Elliot. I can dig it.

I think the Ravens would sooner pick VH3 or Lawson than Zeke. I don't mind a top 10 RB, but I'm not sure if Zeke is quite on that level. He'll help an offense, but I'm not sure if he can carry an offense, like a Gurley, AP, or Jamal Lewis type.

I'm not sure I'd put Gurley or Lewis in the same league as AP as he is one of a kind but Zeke can definitely do it all. He has been the best player on the Buckeyes out of all these top draft picks. He's more comparable to a do it all player like the NFL version of Lev Bell or a young Forte or a Brian Westbrook. But honestly. He'll be his own comp in a few years. People will be saying xyz rb is a Zeke Elliot type. He's going to be a transcendent talent. I'm more sure on this guy than anyone else in the draft including Bosa to be honest.

I'd be pretty happy with that draft.

I would be happy with it too, but I think we would try to get a CB by at least the third round.

It depends on how the team feels. This wouldn't be the first time we needed a good player at a specific position and didn't draft one early.
