[News] Steve Smith's Passionate Message To His Post-Surgery Doubters

20 posts in this topic

I am the last 1 on the planet to doubt what SSS may be able to accomplish after a serious injury and extensive rehab at the age of 37. SSS's general physical condition is better than some players much younger. Sure, this is a tough injury to recover from physically at his age, or any age. However, SSS's determination, passion for the game, feisty nature and mental toughness are so off the charts that it would not surprise me if SSS plays like he's on fire next season, just to prove to any doubters what this "old man" can accomplish. Time will tell if his body obeys or betrays him but if there was ever a competitor with the desire to do the improbable or impossible, SSS is an extraordinary player who might just pull off a truly amazing comeback.

Good luck Smith !

Having had an torn Achilles myself, I can say it's very tough injury to come back from quickly. If anyone can do it, it's going to be Amity !

Its so funny that people will try and doubt this guy after all he has done and has continued to do his whole career. SSS is a future NFL H.O.F. guy is going to prove all nay sayers wrong and have another great year as a Raven.

Gotta Love SSS. He keeps it real. Why rush back and not be ready, Like RGIII. I hope when he comes back he's ready physically and mentally to be our leader. And, wish him well for at least 800 yards to get in to top 5 or 6 WR's all time. Easy Walk in to HOF. Best of luck for the Walter Payton man of the year award as well!

If SSS can still play at a decent level, I would love to have him back. I won't count him out, he is a hard working passionate man. I like him.

It is great to hear SSS's straight talk. No BS, no hype... He is a tough competitor, a great receiver, and seems like a solid person and family man. It is obvious, as he says, he will produce what ever he produces next season if he comes back. And we Ravens fans will enjoy watching him in all of his 'throw back style' Good Luck SSS, can't wait!

You gotta love guys who have this kind of charisma. This dude is a true warrior. Guys like him and Ray Lewis are true leaders. Some guys lead with their mouth, other guys lead with their play and a rare few lead with their mouth and play. With all due respect to the young guys we have on this team, this is a great form of leadership they don't have. Sometimes you needs guys who have so much character they can pull you out of your shell and make you raise your play and enthusiasm to another level. For example after listening to Ray, SSS or Sizzle don't you feel like you are ready to buckle the chinstrap and go into battle? We need to draft younger guys who can provide this to the team.

On a side note, this made me think of Joey Porter(yes the Porter who used to play for the Squeelers and now linebackers coach)when the Steelers had their media day at Superbowl XL against the Seahawks. Joey Porter and Jeremy Stevens were exchanging words in the media. Porter told the reporter that Stevens was soft and asked the reporter if he was going to walk through a dark alley who would he take, me(Porter) or Stevens. The reporter said Stevens. Porter called him a liar and said you both are going to get beat up. Lol!

Who is serious about getting back to work and who is not. After Achilles surgery SSS is out of his boot and is looking ahead to week 12 when he can start the physical rehab stuff. At the Pittsburgh game, Suggs is still wearing his boot. He came in last year fat and lazy and thought he could hurry up at the last minute and get back in shape and see what happened. Not making a statement here but just raising a point. Is Suggs still a leader in the eyes of the players and if not, is his playing ability alone worth paying him for what he does on the field? Has Suggs checked out on the team and if he comes back in fat and lazy next year, after an Achilles injury, when SSS is in good shape, after the same injury, a sign of that?

To the media...

Please keep doubting Steve Smith Sr. because the more people tell him he can't, his response is, "Watch me."

He's being honest about where he is.....now just retire and stop making this an ongoing story. Announce it tomorrow.....the Ravens need to get some younger talent.

Suggs is way more interested in making movies than playing football. The Ravens will pay him next season no matter what. 'Nuff said.

Or, they are not the same injury. There are severities to every injury.

Just more speculation from the fanbase that isn't supported by anything. Just wait... when Flacco's still not on the field a month from now, people will say he's not dedicated either.

It always makes me chuckle. And fans wonder why the FO isn't as transparent with them about injuries as fans like.

Because THESE are the kinds of reactions I see from fans when they are provided with information. This is why the FO should tell fans literally nothing about injuries.
