Elway is an idiot. Elway low balled him big time only offering $39M guaranteed. According to Spotrac that would only be 13th highest among all defensive players. Cox just got $63M, Norman got $50M, Dareus got $60M, Oliver Vernon got $52M and the Jaguars gave Malik Jackson $42M.

It's no wonder Miller turned it down.

Where do you think Brandon Williams is going to fall in the contract talk?

I'd imagine he will get something similar to what Damon Harrison got(5 years, 46.25(9.25 mil per) with 24 mil guarenteed) unless he really goes off this year( especially in the pass rushing department). I think we have decent chances of being able to keep him and Tucker personally although I thought we would be able to keep Torrey as well.

5 for $50 million would be my guess. The 2 are very similar players so Williams should get in front of Harrison given that all contracts usually increase upon the previous ones.

Anyone else surprised that Monroe has yet to be signed by a team? Thought for sure the Giants would have snagged him up since they apparently were wanting to give us draft picks for him. Though I was reading on ESPN that the Giants like Ereck Flowers at LT and Marshall Newhouse at RT so Monroe wouldn't have been guaranteed a starting job.  It's interesting that apparently he is seeking $5M+ from a team and that might be turning some teams away, including the Seattle Seahawks. Wonder if he's just waiting for a injury to happen in camp or what, but would it be something to go from being on a team to not being on a team at all and sitting out the season as a Free Agent.

He'd be guaranteed a starting job over Marshall Newhouse, but he has no desire to play RT as it fetches less money. He feels that his value lies on the left side and if he waits long enough, a team will be unsatisfied in camp or suffer an injury and need his services.

The waiting game could work for him if a team gets desperate. But I think he's going to have to lower his price. Not many teams will spend that much money on a guy that has barely played the last few seasons.

Like BMoreBird said he'd be handed the RT spot over Newhouse who was a turnstile last year. He was horrible in GB and now with Giants. Lord only knows how he keeps a job (starting ones at that). Kinda like ONeil Cousins. What I heard was Monroe turned down the Giants offer to play RT.

Wait, so you're telling me that no one has pounced on an oft-injured LT, who commands more than his worth, and seems to be putting more time into his foundation rather than his ability to stay healthy?

Color me surprised.

Do we know what his price tag is?

Seattle is the team that surprises me the most. They have a bunch of unknowns at tackle, though I guess they're just planning on the "Wilson will scramble enough that our tackles won't be as important" style of football, which is unsustainable and didn't work very well last year.

That seems like the most logical team for me.

Well, he wasn't willing to take any kind of pay cut to go to the Giants, and it's been enough to scare off teams that should definitely be trying to sign him.

I guess the way I see it... is $6.5M really an unreasonably high number for him?

I mean assuming he's a LT for whoever he signs for, that's pretty much around the veteran minimum for a starting LT. Well aware of the injury concerns, but that would put him around like 18th in terms of annual salary for LTs, and there's not a ton of veterans below him on that list (pretty much all rookie contract guys). I mean its pretty much like Donald Penn and Michael Oher.

To me, maybe the best "comp" is a guy like King Dunlap. He's making a guaranteed $4.5M, but also can make up another like $1-2M in incentives (likely built around playing time).

Ryan Clady, who hasn't played at all since 2014, will make $6M this year + incentives.

I guess that's sort of my observation. I'm just not sure that a $6.5M price tag is that unrealistic. So far it appears teams disagree, but time is pretty much on Monroe's side.

And then there's Andrew Luck...who will likely never be a FA for the rest of his career.

Never say never. I'm pretty sure people said the same thing about Peyton

As a matter of fact:

Colts lock up QB Andrew Luck with record six-year, $140 million deal

http://usat.ly/290UHbZ

Alright, let's see if the media goes on a crusade of Luck killing the Colts cap... Oh wait his name isn't Joe Flacco.

Seriously though, The Colts really have crippled their cap going forward. Luck is going to have to carry the team on his back, they aren't going to have the cap to build a defense or continue building their offensive line to protect this $140M investment.

Double standards are the best, if it didn't happen with Ryan, Cutler, Stafford, Oswiler, Tannehill, Dalton, it won't happen.

Whatever, not the biggest deal, just annoying

As far as Andrew Luck goes, the only two years that might be crippling are 2019 and 2020, but assuming the cap keeps increasing at the rate it's been, that'll be a manageable number.

What the media will now hopefully understand is that this is the new going rate for a franchise quarterback, good or not. I happen to think Luck has the best quarterback in the league type of ability and the emphasis on fixing the line should help, but I guarantee a quarterback within the next few years surpasses this contract. Wait until Winston or Mariota get theirs.

Looking at Spotrac to see the real numbers of this Andrew Luck contract. While the media reports the more flash $140M number, this deal is really a five year $122M extension with $87M guaranteed($47M fully guaranteed at signing). His base salaries are $12M, $7M, $12M, $9.1M, and $11M the final two years of the deal. Looking at it from a cap perspective, regardless of the cap going up, they will have to look at restructuring after year 3 as he counts $27.5M against the cap come 2019 and $28.4M in 2020.

Cap Hit By Year:

2016: $18.4M

2017: $19.4M

2018: $24.4M

2019: $27.52M

2020: $28.4M

2021: $21M

Von Miller refuses to sign his Franchise Tender, citing the Franchise Tag is a "league wide problem".

Quote

“No, I’m not gonna play on the franchise tag. It just doesn’t make sense in any way,” Miller said on ESPN.

I've never really played for money,” Miller said. “It’s bigger than that for me. It’s a league-wide problem that I feel like I’m in a situation to help out with.”

Looks like Von Miller is going to win the war with John Elway and the Broncos. The Denver Broncos raised their guaranteed money to $70M(would be 2nd to Andrew Luck if he accepts) while staying at the 6-year $114M offer. It is being reported that Miller will accept that offer before tomorrow's deadline.

RB Arian Foster has signed a 1 year deal with the Dolphins.

So I heard that the Dolphins basically traded RBs with the Texans. Interesting.

Pretty much but Houston got the better end of it while Miami got a bad deal.

I think the bad move was letting Miller walk but the Foster deal isn't bad. He only got 400k at signing and 1.5M base deal with incentives that can take it up to 3.5M. I think that's reasonable because if he can stay healthy I think he still has some ability left, and if you feel he can't stay healthy you can cut him before week 1 and no harm no foul all they lose out on is the signing bonus.

I predict Miller will fall far short of expectations and not be this workhorse back that's being predicted. Ajayi will end up the better player. And nothing wrong with bringing in Foster for basically nothing.

Dodged this bullet.  I'm not sure if he would have done the same if he was still on the team, but can you imagine what would have happened if we were truly counting on him?
