Very Bold Mock

19 posts in this topic

So now that we know we are at #6 this is what I have. Now lets be clear this first round is very very bold and probably not 100% likely.

Round 1

Pick 1 Tennessee Titans- Laremy Tunsil OT. They are going to want to lock up some protection for Mariota after the way his season ended.

Pick 2 Cleveland Browns- Paxton Lynch QB. I mean this team has to have a record for picking QB's in the first round.

Pick 3 San Diego Chargers Jalen Ramsey S. Doesn't look like Weddle will be back so they are going to be looking for his replacement.

Pick 4 Dallas Cowboys Myles Jack LB. Sean Lee is always hurt and Rolando Mcclain isn't the most consistent. They need a consistent play maker at the linebacker position.

Pick 5 Jacksonville Jagauars Ronnie Stanley OT. Jags need to keep Blake Bortles upright. They got him the weapons now he needs the protection.

Pick 6 *New Orleans Saints* Joey Bosa DE. Their defense needs some help. Bosa falling gives us big bargaining power. Compensation 1st 2nd and 6th

Pick 7 San Francisco 49ers. Jaylon Smith LB. Bowman seems to be having trouble without a solid wing man. Smith would be a good addition.

Pick 8 Miami Dolphins. A'Shawn Robinson DT. Getting another guy to go along with Suh might be the ticket here.

Pick 9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Laquan Treadwell WR. With Vincent Jackson likely on the way out they probably look to get Treadwell to give Winston more weapons.

Pick 10 New York Giants Vernon Hargreaves CB. Worst pass defense in the league. No brainer.

Pick 11 Chicago Bears Robert Nkemdiche DT. While they have the best pass defense their rush defense is lacking. Nkemdiche could be a part of the puzzle to make this an elite D.

Pick 12 Baltimore Ravens Deforest Buckner DE. Although I would like Ogbah here as well, Buckner is BPA in this crazy scenario.

Rd2-Tyler Boyd WR-

*Kendall Fuller CB-From NO

Rd3- Yannick Ngakoue- How he's so low on big boards I have no idea. I've seen as late as the 5th which to me is absurd.

*Joe Dahl/Tyler Marz/ Kyle Murphy OT- From NO. Cant decide which one I like. They have all been on the rise.

Rd4- Deon Bush S

*Rd4- Cassanova Mckinzy ILB- from gino trade

No way in hell we trade that far down if we can snatch VH3, especially if it's for buckner

Honestly I think Buckner is better. If Bosa is still there at 6 I'm sure we could get even more than I proposed. If you can stock up on picks and get a guy like Buckner I'd say that value clearly outweighs drafting VH3.

id call buckner a much safer pick. as good as vh3s whole body of work has been, he has had moments that really make you stop and think... buckner on the other hand, he may be one of the safest picks in the entire draft after tunsil

We just finished a bad 5-11 season guys, it doesn't seem like a safe pick will do the trick at turning the ship around. Much less at the d-line where we're crowded as it is. In order to become relevant again (besides avoiding injuries) we clearly need a playmaker in the secondary.

I think DB should be first priority in the first round, especially if the secondary is not adressed through FA.

have you seen our pass rush though? improving that area, will pay huge dividends for our secondary and our team as a whole.

and as much as we would like to see a sexy pick and have the high upside guy turn out to be everything we wanted... a blown 6th overall pick would all but bury this team and would be the beginning of the end for harbs and ozzie i think.

well would you rather have a safe pick or a complete bust? We need somebody to come in and contribute immediately yes- but that doesn't mean we risk taking a guy who has an incredible ceiling but big bust potential. I'd much rather play it safe as well, and that doesn't mean that player won't turn out to be gold. If you pick smart you can find impact players in any and every round. I'm sure you know this

Wait...so you think we could only get a first, second and sixth for Joey Bosa? I think you're gravely mistaken here. If we decided to do this trade, I can't see the team agreeing to let a player once seen as the top overall prospect go for this compensation. We'd certainly get more than this.

I'm sure we would get more, but I honestly have no clue what. For the sake of the mock I kept it simple.

At first, I was skeptical of your mock to see who they passed on to trade down with NO, but then I saw the second round picks and I was like....

WINNING!

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of taking Buckner there, but if he can give consistent interior pressure then I'll take him. The Ravens won't need top end edge rushers if Jernigan and Buckner can get pressure on nearly every down.

You're right, I think I'm just craving a sexy INT-making machine - but with Webb changing and Lewis out (hopefully) I feel a little better.

Let's see how Z. Smith and Guy get freed up when/if Suggs returns. But like you said, we definitely need some new rushing forces - I was just thinking about taking care of that in the second (Ngakoue perhaps).

So, if Oz passes on Bosa/VH3/Ramsey then they trade back to the middle of the round and get Buckner, Ogbah, Nkemdiche or perhaps Mackensie Alexander?

That's true and now it seems official that Webb will be switching to FS. That will hopefully sideline Lewis and Elam, if they're even here next season.

elams not going anywhere yet, he's still on his rookie contract , has no trade value and were not releasing a first round pick without at least giving him one more shot on the feild.

I feel like if Bosa is there, there's a good chance we'd just take him and call it a day.

I think Bosa, Stanley, and Tunsil would get picked right away by Ozzie. For everyone else, he'd consider a trade back.

I'd be pretty surprised if Bosa made it past Dallas (where he would be a replacement for Hardy) and Jacksonville (where he would step into a Michael Bennett role). Definitely with you on Buckner though, I have no idea why everybody has been saying his stock has fallen, he's a little raw as a puss-rusher, but his ceiling is so high. With Canty likely gone as a cap casualty, Buckner would be a starter at the 5-technique on this team. If the Ravens took Buckner at 6, I'd be happier than if they took Hargreaves at 6.

Buckner makes a lot of sense for Tennessee and Dallas maybe even Cleveland. I like Bosa and I'm not saying Buckner is better but Buckner has a quicker first step, fits a 4-3 & 3-4, is highly disruptive inside, has the tools to make it, etc. If Kelly goes to Cleveland or Tennessee then it makes even more sense since he's an Oregon guy who likely has some familiarity with what he likes to do defensively.

I definitely think that Bosa and Buckner could both end up going top 5.

Cowboys passing on him is unlikely, but if I was them I would go linebacker. I've actually seen other mocks since having them grab Jack as well however on those Bosa is probably already gone.

Honestly with Jax though I don't see how they don't grab Stanley or Tunsil if they are there which I'm sure one of them will be. They had the worst pass protection in the league. For a team building their team around their passing game they, in my mind, no doubt go OT.
