City's 2016 Mock Draft 2.0

14 posts in this topic

Well, I wanted to wait till the season was over to get a good indication of where we would be picking to make the selections. I this point I think we can all agree that we have plenty of needs that must be filled via the draft, it's also difficult when you consider the fact that we will soon be playing with house money, so we pretty much have to kill this draft.

I could see this playing out like the 2014 draft, going pure as it gets BPA, or just drafting strictly on need.

Round 1, pick 1: Laremy Tunsil, OT Ole' Mis--Titans

Tennessee would love to trade back, but it depends heavily on how much a team values the Tunsil/Bosa or one of the QBs. Tennessee stands pat and makes sure they can protect their young QB all while investing in one of the best OTs to enter the draft in years.

Round 1, pick 2: Jared Goff, QB Cal--Browns

Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, it doesn't matter. With the recent report that Cleveland seems done with Manziel, it's obvious at this point that they will pick a QB IMO. I could flirt with a 49ers-Browns trade at this spot, but I'll just leave it as it is given how difficult it is to determine the value of moving from 7-2 given how weak of the class is this year.

Round 1, pick 3: Joey Bosa, DE Ohio State--Cowboys

With Dallas being iffy on the re-signing of Greg Hardy, Bosa would make a lot of sense, not to mention the fit is one to love for Jerry Jones.

Round 1, pick 4: A'Shawn Robinson, Alabama--Chargers

Round 1, pick 5: Jalen Ramsey, Florida State--Jaguars

Round 1, Pick 6:

Ronnie Stanley, OT Notre Dame--Baltimore Ravens

Offensive tackle has seem to be an underrated need every year. It seems to me that with Monroe potentially being on the outs, investing in an OT who is a scheme fit with loads of potential could be a good move, especially given the lack of talent in the latter half of the top 10. Stanley is a tech-savy OT who would fit very well in a ZBS, he has soured a bit to some scouts due to his struggles sometimes against bullrushing pass rushers, I share some of those concerns too but its something he can cope with and improve upon once he builds up his strength. I think of Tyron Smith as a guy who had questions about his strength, however Smith has answered those questions while Stanley has not, with that said, I think of Stanley as a guy comparable to Smith and I do believe that his leverage problem has a bit to do with him not sinking his hips much.

Round 2

Kendall Fuller, CB--Virginia Tech

We need a CB badly. Fuller has dropped because of injuries, if it weren't for that he would be a clear cut first. Fuller here would be a great pick. I do have a bit of worries with Fuller. There are times where he fails to locate the ball which just drives me nuts. All the other concerns outside of the injury just seems like small concerns for me. He has proven ball skills, a fluid athlete with the ability to read routes and mirrors WRs so well, all with having good footwork. You could make the argument that he might be more talented than his brother Kyle Fuller was as a prospect.

Round 3

Josh Perry, OLB--Ohio State

OLB is a position that will be addressed in the off-season IMO. Perry gives us an element that we could surely use on this defense, athleticism. Perry may not be the biggest guy on the field, but he can surely defend the run well. He has good size and speed and I think he has a future as a 3-4 pass rusher. He wasn't able to showcase his skills greatly because of the fact that he played in Urban Myers stack formation, but man would he be a weapon on this defense. You can put him on the outside to rush the passer or in the inside where he has experience at. I think of him as a guy comparable to a poor mans Anthony Barr or Jamie Collins.

Round 4

Bralon Addison, WR--Oregon

Addison is a big play just waiting to happen. He has reliable hands, runs a serious deep space, and just makes separation look easy. He could also provide value in the return game as well.

Round 4(Comp)

Victor Ochi, OLB--Stony Brook

Round 5

Brandon Shell, OT South Carolina

It wouldn't shock me at all to see us double dip at OT even with investing a top 10 pick into one, considering the fact that we have been hit with the injury wave(and because james hurst sucks). We could really use another back-up OT as well.

So yeah, I think we'll make moves to address some of the needs in FA. Regardless if we do sign K.O to an extension I still think Stanley would be the guy and why not? We could move K.O back to guard and in the event Stanley is inactive you shift him right back to LT.

I don't want another cb with injury concerns

He just tore his meniscus, hardly a medical concern. What is impressive is the display of toughness to play with it for three games.

The only thing I don't like about fuller are his problems locating the ball. Seems we have enough issues with that as it is.

That is a concern of mine but he's a very smart and instinctive player. That's a habit of his that will be cleaned up with proper coaching. That's not a big enough reason for me to pass on him honestly.

I really like Fuller. I'd be happy with the first two picks here but I'd admittedly be disappointed with those after.

Which ones specifically? I can understand being disappointed with Josh Perry, but I think he can play a hybrid ILB-OLB role for us which is pretty value. I look at him as someone very similar to Anthony Barr. A poor man's version that is.

All of them. I just think there will be better players of better value.

I don't think picking Stanley over VHIII would be BPA. Stanley is good but I think 6 is a bit of a reach for him, just my opinion I guess but I think he needs work in run blocking.

I do like Perry but the top of the third may be a small reach, not unrealistic, especially if UpShaw is gone

I like fuller in the second, Stanley and Perry aren't bad but I'm not a fan of anyone else after round 3

I don't think Stanley is a reach at 6 he is mega-talented. He may not be the best run-blocker but he is surely the best pass protector, even better than Tunsil in that department.

Teryl Austin or Chris Hewitt aren't the only one's who work with defensive backs.

yeah this is my point could that be the reason our secondary was terrible this past season ?????
