[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts at Bengals

67 posts in this topic

Is it just me, or does anyone else want the Steelers to beat the Bungles next week ... tradition says the Bungles get bounced out the back door in the first week, and I'm not one to break with tradition :-)

Green button for Steelers,

Red Button for Bungles

The Steelers have a five year streak of their own going without winning a playoff game. One of those streaks is going to have to come to an end on Sunday.

I don't want to use the refs as an excuse for our record, but I don't remember one game this season where we got preferential treatment by them. They cost us at least one game this year with a bad no call and seemed like they missed a lot of obvious penalties on our opponents. Not sure how you fix that.

I said this earlier and I mean it NOW. Look around the NFL at all the record breaking WRs and offensive teams and most are sitting home, then look at teams with dominant defense and dominant run game(Panthers,Seattle, Vikes, All playoff teams) and 2 arguably SB Favorites.

Then consider Trestmans Ravens offense every game this year just like today was 45 passes plus, to only 20 runs. Zero balance.

Harbaugh better tell Trestman look check uour ego at the door, next year run the dang ball 30x a game

I just wanna say "THANK YOU" to the Baltimore Ravens and Bmore. Com crazy season but we will be back! We can beat the squeelers but now it's time for the Ravens to beat the bungles and the bills! Two teams that we need to step our game up with! SALUTE

one thing the Ravens need to do is have smarter plays. If youre on the two yard line you spread it out but have the QB take the snap under center so the other team has to guard against the run or the pass. We put two receivers on each side and took the snap from the shotgun thus letting the Bengals know its a pass. Wheres the surprise?

After making the mistake of putting down a grand on a Ravens future Superbowl bet, it sure seamed the Refs, along with the scheduling crew was out to sink our season early!

The game wasn't broadcasted qhere I was at so I listened to it on the radio. Towards the end of the game the announcers (Ismail and company) said that the upset news was Pittsburgh making it to the playoffs. I was thinking "why worry about the steelers going to the playoffs if we are not. I honestly respect the steelers for going to the playoffs. Right now it seems to me that the Bengals are the team we have to win RESPECT back from, we've lost to them, what, like 4 or 5 games IN A ROW? One way or another we need to get our defensive squad capable of shutting down offenders again.

Pees fired yet?

Is Pees really responsible? Or is he 2013's Juan Castillo of 2015? I'm not saying anything one way or another, but people always need a scapegoat. Everyone was calling for Castillo to be sacked, even mid-season, if need be. He's still here and his OL is doing well. The difference was upgrading from Gino Gradkowski, not a coach change.

Here's how (as I see, in the "normal" view the right side of the images get truncated - the second image says you have to click on the "Quote" button on the bottom right to bring up the reply box seen in the bottom image):

NFL.com had Jaqs picking 6th ahead of Ravens at 7th based on strength of schedule? Really?

As I understand the tie breaking rules, we should definitely be #6 as, even though it's a three-way tie, both of the other teams beat us.

But then again, I'm but a simple fan...

Green button for Steelers,

Red Button for Bungles

I find it disgusting to root for either one. We need a pukey colored button for voting on this one. I guess for me, it comes down to the coaches. I like Lewis more than Tomlin, by far. But I certainly understand the fan approach too, And Cincy fans are more tolerable, by far, too. Consequently, as I am walking away, shaking my head, I root for the Bengals. Did I actually just say that?

Five thoughts 1. Coordinators are going nowhere but I wouldn't want to be Chris Hewitt the secondary coach (however, wouldn't Pettine be nice?). 2. I am sticking to needing a high quality FA receiver as a #1 with S Smith, Perriman, Aiken, Butler, Camp, Waller or whoever else can be a #2, #3 or #4 receiver. 3. Pass rush will need BIG help. 4. Secondary needs BIG help. 5. Pay KO to be left tackle or draft a high left tackle. With a serviceable left tackle this offense was able to convert third downs because they could deal better with the pressure. Had Joe had a decent left tackle (Monroe is not), he would have done much better (and survived). (a mini #6 for Ryan Jensen who played great subbing at guard and the same for Urschel subbing at center).

Defense has looked alright last couple games. Still needs more of a pass rush to help the secondary though. I really hope the Ravens resign Wright after the way he has been playing. He should be our #2 going forward with Webb at Nickel or safety.

We need better play from our safeties period. It's like we're doing things backwards with taking put Will Hill for Webb and not Kendrick Lewis. I bet if you look up stats he might just be the worst rated safety this yr. Will Hill should have been playing SS with Webby at FS. Also this yr we need a top Cb or passrusher at #6 I think with guys coming back from injuries we will be fine at wr. We have one of the best Te groups too do that helps. Upshaw has been disappointing, this yr has his worst yet to me. With all the snaps he's had he should have made more plays, he might be better in the trenches if you ask me.

Pees is good but this season he has made some bad defensive calls. I mean there were many times he had guys playing zone when they should be playing man. Not having safety help over the to when you can clearly see that the opponents are attacking specific players throughout a game. Jimmy should always be on the top player and playing man. Pees is trying to change our philosophy too much. I honestly thought Ted Macho Man was gonna be our new Coordinator yrs ago. He knows how to get pressure, Pees lacks in that area. This yr when we have blitzed we got hit the QB, Mosley probably only blitzed a handful of times and has 4 sacks. IDK if Pees is a Patriot insider but this yr was very fishy with his playcalling.

5 THOUGHTS: 1. Mallet is a solid back up and I wouldn't be afraid to use him as a starter if needed. 2. The Defense is still not quite good enough-while I have to admit that they have shown improvement... We will have still needed to score 4 TD's to win that game... not good enough! Time to bring PAGS back and let Pees go! 3. I am encouraged about our RB situation heading into next season... with Forsett, LT, Buck Allen and West.... we are set in that position. 4. We need another top notch CB! 5. Would love to see us keep KO at LT... I know that puts us in a situation with Monroe... but KO is solid and Monroe we cannot count on..>> That means that Monroe is a situation with him or without him... that being said... we need to plan with out him(even if we keep him)!

I have a hard time believing next season will be much better than this year. The Steelers and Cincy are way ahead talent wise. I would like to know if Ozzie is ready to move on. It wouldn't surprise me if he's in his last year with the Ravens. How is it the Steelers and Cincy have a ton of receivers and we can't get too reliable guys?

How is it that the Steelers are "way ahead talent wise" if we swept the Steelers? Obv Cincy had our number but they were clearly playing their best ball in years this season and as Harbaugh said, some day we will learn how to defend A.J Green. I dont disagree that we need more talent in a couple positions to make sure we can play better once players inevitably get injured and we have to turn to 2nd/3rd string, but I'm not willing to say they're "way ahead" when one team didn't even beat us once this season. I do still have confidence in Ozzie that he wont mess this draft up like the last couple disappointing drafts (Don't automatically assume everyone out of Alabama is a great ball player Ozzie!!)

We are who we thought we were - a crippled team without many options. The fact that we won 5 games is a wonder.

I do give a ton of credit to these guys. They never say quit. Hats off to that.

I for one am not that impressed with Mallett. If you really watched him when times got rough, he was sorta outa sorts. I don't know how to say what I'd like to say without getting "warned" nuff, said. I actually liked Clausan better

I figured the Steelers game was a fluke. I have never seen the Steelers so flat playing us.

Next year who knows?? We all did see some guys that could be big for us. How any of that is handled, who knows.

Will Hill hurt his back. That's why Webb was in for him instead of K. Lewis.

IDK.... the draft could go a couple of different directions for us. If we re-sign KO then we will not need to look OT. If that is the case... I like the thoughts of us bringing in a Shaq Lawson or Joey Bosa. We also need help with CB and Jalen Ramsey can play right now. Hargraves gets a lot of hype but I think Ramsey is a good bit ahead of hargraves.... (of Course we could grad Shaq Lawson in the 1st and Fuller -CB-Vtech) in the 2nd. I wouldn't mind going after LaQuann Treadwell in the 1st either. Having LT and Perriman (with SSS) and our TEs would make us a dangerous offense for years to come (minus SSS)... So... I think our draft could go in several directions and it starts with what we really feel about Monroe... (and if we can re-sign KO)... if not- I think we are looking at ROnnie Stanley -OT-ND or Taylor Decker-OT-Ohio State (who I actually like better then Stanley)!

first of all, my take is there was no mention of the kicking game. wondered if this one those "don't want to jinx it" moments. who will be the kicker next year? i believe tucker is going to be lured away. second, injuries- i blame the nfl's policy on how teams are allow to practice. maybe teams should start incorporating yoga. third, the defensive secondary, for two years it has be kind of a joke and fans have been split over them. fifth, will be money issues, will flacco come off his money? finally, perriman and elam? next year will answer if they are bust or not?
