The Raven Effect

Ravens Mock Draft w/ Entire 1st Round

56 posts in this topic

I've been thinking the same thing. I was really happy when they took Manziel, but Goff or Lynch could actually be good. It's kind of a double edged sword.

The Browns are a QB graveyard. I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers would have busted there after they threw him into the fire and started changing coaches every other week. If they're actually capable of helping a good QB prospect reach his potential I'll believe it when I see it.

Why doesn't he fit? I think he does. He's a little tall for an OLB at 6-6, but he's an excellent pass rusher and he knows how to apply pressure. He is one of the best pass rushers I've seen all year. He's not a natural OLB but that doesn't mean he can't play the position. It's not like OLBs have to cover like Bowman or anything. He's a really good player. I just hope you're not turning yourself off to him because you don't think we'll get him.

I think there's a legitimate chance we can get him. A lot of people already said it, but Leonard Williams was a popular pick for the top prospect last year and he went to the Jets at 6. Why not Bosa or another elite prospect to the Ravens at 6?

you've got a point- and sub consciously I kinda have tried to move past bosa just bc I didn't think it was gonna happen. But now that you mention it, stranger things have happened and a fall to 6 is quite possible.

Connor Cook... Never got the fascination. I've seen nothing that leads me to believe he'll be an NFL QB and I think a team is making a huge mistake if they take him early. I don't have him as anything more than a day 3 flier.

Yeah I'm not impressed by him. And that's not even considering the fact that he's a 3 year starter and wasn't named a captain by his teammates. If he can't lead college kids then how is he going to lead grown men?

I'd actually be scared if the Browns took Goff or even Lynch, to a lesser extent. It's no secret I really like Goff. He's one of my favorite prospects in this draft. He needs time to sit, though, IMO, to be ready for the next level.

Lynch > Goff. Not enough Arm strength

Oh and to whoever negged my post. Explain your thoughts.

1. Titans - Tunsil

2. Browns - Lynch

3. Chargers - Stanley (at which point I miss the next three picks because I just wrecked my TV by throwing the remote at it too hard)

4. Cowboys - Buckner

5. Jags - Ramsey

6. Ravens - Bosa

I could justify every one of those picks, and that's before you bring in the possibility of a trade for Goff or teams deciding Jaylon Smith's knee is fine or someone else rising in the combine. I'm not saying that's how it WILL happen because no-one knows how the draft will pan out, but what I'm saying is that no-one knows how the draft will pan out.

Bosa isn't as explosive a rusher as a guy like Clowney was, teams could see him as a tweener and his Fiesta Bowl ejection will cause teams to go over every single one of his penalties with a fine-toothed comb (hell, even at 6 I'd be worried enough about him extending drives with 15-yard penalties if he's going to launch like that in a big game).

2016 Offseason and Mock Draft (will update as the Ravens make moves)

Departures:

Osemele - Too costly for G, If we want him at LT, we might be able to keep him

Canty - Will probably retire

Webb - Cap casualty unless we restructure, or try him out at FS

Monroe - Unless he restructures, which I doubt. Too injury prone, might be able to get a draft pick

Schaub/Clausen - Mallett will be the last backup QB standing

Upshaw - Will get paid somewhere else

Re-Signings/Extensions/Restructures:

Tucker - Struggled a bit, but still a top five kicker

Flacco - I think he'll take one for the team

Cox

Aiken

Orr

Jensen

Matthews

Butler

Wright

West

Clay

Potential FA/Trade Targets (Not saying we'll sign them, but guys we may go after)

FS Eric Weddle (Age might lower his price, if we don't go S in the draft)

DT Haloti Ngata (Maybe a cheapish deal to end his career in Baltimore)

CB Trumaine Johnson

OLB/DE Mike Neal

WR Vincent Jackson (If he's cut), or Anquan Boldin in a situation like Ngata. Alshon Jeffery would be amazing but probably too expensive

LT Cordy Glenn (If we don't want KO at LT, probably too expensive but would be nice), or Donald Penn/Jake Long (Veteran presence)

Coaching Changes:

Chuck Pagano replaces Dean Pees as D-Coordinator (wishful thinking)

2016 Mock Draft:

1. Titans - Laremy Tunsil, T, Ole Miss

2. Browns - Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis

3. Cowboys - Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State (DAL trades for Manziel)

4. Chargers - Ronnie Stanley, T, Notre Dame

5. Jaguars - Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida

6. Ravens - Jalen Ramsey, FS, Florida State

7. 49ers - Jared Goff, QB, California

8. Dolphins - Myles Jack, LB, UCLA

9. Buccaneers - Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss

10. Giants - A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

11. Bears - DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

12. Saints - Tre'Davious White, CB, LSU

13. Eagles - Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State (PHI trades for Kaepernick)

14. Lions - Mackenzie Alexander, CB, Clemson

15. Raiders - Taylor Decker, T, Ohio State

16. Rams - Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State

17. Falcons - Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia

18. Colts - Jack Conklin, T, Michigan State

19. Bills - Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama

20. Jets - Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia

21. Seahawks - Vadal Alexander, T, LSU

22. Steelers - Su'a Cravens, OLB/S, USC

23. Vikings - Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State

24. Chiefs - Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Ole Miss

25. Redskins - Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State

26. Texans - Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State (HOU signs RG3 after he's cut)

27. Broncos - Le'Raven Clark, T, Texas Tech

28. Packers - Adolphus Washington, DE, Ohio State

29. Bengals - Scooby Wright, LB, Arizoma

30. Cardinals - Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State

31. Panthers - Josh Doctson, WR, TCU

*Patriots forfeit 1st round pick due to deflate-gate*

Notable 2nd Round Picks

Titans - Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Browns - Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh

Cowboys - Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama

Chargers - Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State

Giants - Jaylon Smith, LB, Notre Dame

Ravens Mock Draft

2nd Round - Desmond King, CB, Iowa

3rd Round - Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma

3rd Round (McPhee Comp) - Yannick Ngakoue, DE/OLB, Maryland

4th Round - Joe Dahl, T, Washington State

4th Round (Gino Trade) - Landon Turner, G, North Carolina

4th Round (Smith Comp) - Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor

5th Round (Taylor Comp) - Kris Frost, ILB, Auburn

6th Round - Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State

7th Round - Jonathan Gray, RB, Texas

Thoughts?

What is the reasoning behind trading for Kaepernik when Kelly's gone and they already have Bradford. Head scratcher for me. As for us I think we trade back if Bosa, Stanley, Tunsil, are all gone. I don't think we reach for either VH3 or Ramsey. If we can trade back to 10-12 I think we may still have a chance at one of those two. We trade back if a team looking hard at QBs wants to trade with us to get ahead of SF who are surely looking at QB.

We'll see, I guess. Sitting at #4, with the Browns ahead of him, I think he is very likely to take a QB. It depends on how much they like them, but I think Goff makes a ton of sense for him.

I'll take that bet, especially if Johnny Be Bad gets cut.

Yeah, I can see Jerry take Manziel from the Browns in a trade. That would be so Jerry, too.

At 6th I think Stanley is our guy. I don't think anyone ahead of us takes him unless Tenn takes tunsil and then SD takes Stanley at 3.

Unfortunately thats the most likely scenario given how deep this draft is with run stuffing d line men which is what SD is looking for.

Could just sign him for free

I think the Browns will try to trade him. You can say the same about Rolando McClain, but we traded him to Jerry. It's very possible it repeats once again.  They do pick high enough in the draft to likely claim him off waivers if he's released, though.

I'd laugh incredibly hard if the Titans or Chargers put in a claim ahead of them.

I can't get past the multiple interception games vs NFL level defenses (even then, it's not like he faced the elite defenses like Alabama)

To borrow one from PFF, to me his nearest neighbors are Kirk Cousins and Andy Dalton. Both can be serviceable so long as they have a great supporting cast, but neither can carry a team. Dalton's struggles are evident without AJ Green. Kirk Cousin in his best year is still relatively mediocre with his numbers being boosted by volume.

Titans could, especially if Kelly went there. He'd have two great back-ups for his system.

Difference is we weren't gonna cut McClain outright without bringing him in, and if/when we were we got a conditional pick for him in giving Dallas control of compensation.

yeah I mocked a'shawn Robinson to them but I wouldn't be shocked if buckner was their guy, he already looks like a top 10 guy but a strong combine showing can make him the top defender taken. Ramsey shouldn't be overlooked for them either, I think with weddle leaving they wouldn't mind a hard hitting athlete with some swagger helping in the run And screen game

That first step of his is RIDICULOUS. I've seen him beat his entire DL off the ball many times. I was amazed by his first step on many occasions.

Eh, we'll see. If Jerry really likes Manziel I can see him pony up a pick for him. I wouldn't rule it out. You do make a good point, though.

Carl Lawson I promise you is going round one!! Don't like Ramsey at #6. Not particularly explosive and rarely finds the football. Overhyped cuz of his aggression and trash talk. Countless big hitters did not have the ball skills among other things to be pro bowl safety's and were over drafted. Way far to early for mocks. Not a great draft at the top and the process needs to play out to see who jumps into top10. Ravens could end up with Buckner,Stanley or even Carl Lawson if he is not injured. Yep Lawson could get drafted that high!! Especially In a weak draft.

I like Lawson quite a but but wouldn't touch him anywhere near the first round let alone the top ten, he's missed a lot of games and only has 1 sack this year, he looks pretty darn good but I wouldn't take the risk unless he was there in the 3rd.

yeah buckner has really grown on me, I think he can bring a massive boost to the pass rush, the guy can't be single blocked and he can push the pocket taking double blocks as well. I don't want another 5 tech but I think buckner could be really special

couldnt even really tell you. I just dont think his skill will translate into the nfl. I think he's a bit over rated and obviously he doesn't really fit in our current scheme. Could be dead wrong- but either way he just doesn't seem like a raven. That being said if somehow he fell to us I'd be excited. Skeptical but excited

I can see what you mean. He has not been as impressive on film as a pass rusher compared to last season. It may seem a bit weird to say that since he set the bar high in 2014. However, he is not as violent as you're used to seeing him. This may be because he is trying to prevent injuries but he has had his chances in one-on-one situations against weak opponents and has not taken advantage at times.

As far as the scheme fit goes, there are plenty of 4-3 DEs who have made the jump to 3-4 systems. Our own Za'darius Smith was thought to have been a fit for a 4-3 but he has made the transition rather well.

I would hate two DBs with our first 2 picks. Also Oakman with any of our picks.

I'm not a fan of it either but he has Yannick being there for us. Truth be told I'm not as high on Desmond King as some are here but that's just me. Yannick being there made me more than fine with it, he also included Sterling Shepard there which is a bonus.

I love King because I think he'd be ideal for the Pees system. He'd also help a out with our unimpressive inability to generate turnovers, mainly interceptions. He's fast and has good hands. I think he'd be a beast FS.
