Ravens Mock Draft w/ Entire 1st Round

56 posts in this topic

2016 Offseason and Mock Draft (will update as the Ravens make moves)

Departures:

Osemele - Too costly for G, If we want him at LT, we might be able to keep him

Pitta - Cut after June 1st, not sure if he'll ever play again. We're already good at TE

Canty - Will probably retire

Webb - Cap casualty unless we restructure, or try him out at FS

Monroe - Unless he restructures, which I doubt. Too injury prone, might be able to get a draft pick

Schaub/Clausen - Mallett will be the last backup QB standing

Upshaw - Will get paid somewhere else

Re-Signings/Extensions/Restructures:

Tucker - Struggled a bit, but still a top five kicker

Flacco - I think he'll take one for the team

Cox

Aiken

Orr

Jensen

Matthews

Butler

Wright

West

Clay

Potential FA/Trade Targets (Not saying we'll sign them, but guys we may go after)

FS Eric Weddle (Age might lower his price, if we don't go S in the draft)

DT Haloti Ngata (Maybe a cheapish deal to end his career in Baltimore)

CB Trumaine Johnson

OLB/DE Mike Neal

WR Vincent Jackson (If he's cut), or Anquan Boldin in a situation like Ngata. Alshon Jeffery would be amazing but probably too expensive

LT Cordy Glenn (If we don't want KO at LT, probably too expensive but would be nice), or Donald Penn/Jake Long (Veteran presence)

Coaching Changes:

Chuck Pagano replaces Dean Pees as D-Coordinator (wishful thinking)

I would probably start doing back flips would like more pass rush not a huge Oakman fan but in the 4th why not and I don't know about Prescott making the roster but depending on what's there I would take a chance on another position player overall I really like it Edited by Wildabeast88

No way the boys take Paxton Lynch at 3. For reference, Manziel was a much better prospect and they passed on him at 16. They would do this if their overall roster was stronger, but as it stands, they are still in cap hell and still have a lot of retooling to do. They (literally) can't afford to take a QB that high.

I still have a lot of tape to watch on these two, but Goff's best comp is Andy Dalton. That being said, I can't see Baalke taking him. The worst thing you can do as a GM is miss on a QB. When you take a QB, your job is tied to him. The tape I have watched on Goff suggests to me that he will struggle against the faster and more athletic defenses in the NFL due to his arm strength. I think he will be in for a drop on draft day (similar to Bridgewater altho not as drastic) I think 49ers go defense. I could see Paxton Lynch here.

Connor Cook and Jack Conklin are way too high. On the other hand, I can't see Nkemdiche dropping that far especially if he gets through the combine interviews and drug test alright. Ditto on Buckner.

Noah Spence is a first rounder

Rest of the mock is pretty unrealistic imo.

I'm not a fan of Connor Cook at all. he might be one of the more overhyped prospects in the draft. He is in no way a first rounder. Bad accuracy (56% this year), questionable as a leader (3 year starter senior QB not named Team Captain), and he looked like a deer in the headlights against Alabama. He is below Hackenburg for me. I'd grade Cook early third.

Also, Cardale isn't going anywhere before late day two at best. Even there is overdrafted. he's worthy a day three flier in my opinion. Nice arm, but we saw this year that the IQ just isn't there. Barrett far outclassed him as a QB and Cardale simply didn't look good against average teams like Virginia Tech, NIU, and Penn State with an elite OL, RB, and WRs. He had the dream offense assembled and he looked average at best.

Deforest Buckner is massively undervalued. He is a top ten lock, with very possibly top 5 potential.

I like the idea of going Jalen Ramsey and Desmond King. If the team feels good going forward with SSS, Aiken, and Perriman that is.

Shepard is good value in the third. He is a lot like Tyler Lockett last year. I'm not sure Yannick will be available that late.

Nice Pick in Dahl and Turner.

Oakmen will probably be available but he is just a project. Worth it in the 4th I guess.

No reason to pick Jackson after Ramsey and King. I don't see how he'd be any better than Terrence Brooks.

Not a Prescott Fan, for the NFL at least. Tebow 2.0 in play style. No good for the NFL.

Devon Johnson will likely move to FB in the NFL, rather not have him.

Cook is a media ma manufactured first rounder, no way he'll be going on day 1 on draft day. I don't know why the media loves him, tape just simply doesn't back it up.

Paxton to the Cowboys isn't unrealistic. The situation they are in now isn't the same as the 2014 draft. Without Romo they are a pathetic team and Romo misses at least a couple games per year, they need a replacement. Such a situation is best for Lynch, he shouldn't be a starter day 1 but he has a high ceiling.

Buckner will be gone top 10, he's the best DE not named Bosa. The guy isn't like Oregon defensive players from the past couple drafts.

Jenkins, Drango, and Jones are big reaches in the first.

Carl Lawson I promise you is going round one!! Don't like Ramsey at #6. Not particularly explosive and rarely finds the football. Overhyped cuz of his aggression and trash talk. Countless big hitters did not have the ball skills among other things to be pro bowl safety's and were over drafted. Way far to early for mocks. Not a great draft at the top and the process needs to play out to see who jumps into top10. Ravens could end up with Buckner,Stanley or even Carl Lawson if he is not injured. Yep Lawson could get drafted that high!! Especially In a weak draft.

Explosive is definitely one of the words I'd use to describe Ramsey

Meant to say range and long speed. He closes fast

I think we are in a perfect spot, in front of S,F, which means we can and will trade back, somebody will want a QB and they are going to jump, I also think Cleveland will take Bosa, keeping him in state the fans will love also they will get a vet QB,

what do you all think,,,

He outruns plays and appears to take bad angles because of how fast he is. That kid can fly.

However, I don't think his aggressive nature bodes well to be a FS, but I wouldn't mind him as a SS

I'd actually be scared if the Browns took Goff or even Lynch, to a lesser extent. It's no secret I really like Goff. He's one of my favorite prospects in this draft. He needs time to sit, though, IMO, to be ready for the next level.

"Browns officially done with Manziel after he was a no show today." Got this alert from BR. So Browns might not draft bosa.

hard to picture him falling past Dallas though

At 6th I think Stanley is our guy. I don't think anyone ahead of us takes him unless Tenn takes tunsil and then SD takes Stanley at 3.

Connor Cook... Never got the fascination.  I've seen nothing that leads me to believe he'll be an NFL QB and I think a team is making a huge mistake if they take him early.  I don't have him as anything more than a day 3 flier.

My friend is pretty convinced Dallas takes a QB. Obviously not every team takes a QB ahead of us, though. Lol.

not sure I want him anyway. I know I've swayed back and forth but right now I'm actually leaning towards trading back and grabbing treadwell. But yeah right now my gut is telling me bosa= bust. Edited by January J

this isn't necessarily my first choice but I'm also almost convinced Stanley will be our guy too. Just seems like a pure Ozzie move.

Dallas needs a QB and receiver. Dez is the only playmaker. Cowboys hot away with it because of Oline played so well as did Romo and kept defenses guessing with balance. With Romos surgeries Dallas needs a qb

since when is need the only factor involved? Not every team is Cleveland, dallas actually drafts pretty well

couldnt even really tell you. I just dont think his skill will translate into the nfl. I think he's a bit over rated and obviously he doesn't really fit in our current scheme. Could be dead wrong- but either way he just doesn't seem like a raven. That being said if somehow he fell to us I'd be excited. Skeptical but excited

They do, but I have to agree. I really think Dallas goes WR. Bosa is possible, don't get me wrong, but if Goff or Lynch is there and they love them, Jerry will take them, IMO. I don't think they will roll the dice with no quality back-up behind Romo.

it's honestly the smartest move. I think treadwell is a safe pick even though wrs are never considered safe, I think buckner is a safe pick as well, but Stanley plays so squeaky clean and he has the strength even though it could use some improvement, but looking at whay we have invested in the team you just can't go wrong with a refined high character LT

Why doesn't he fit? I think he does. He's a little tall for an OLB at 6-6, but he's an excellent pass rusher and he knows how to apply pressure. He is one of the best pass rushers I've seen all year. He's not a natural OLB but that doesn't mean he can't play the position. It's not like OLBs have to cover like Bowman or anything. He's a really good player. I just hope you're not turning yourself off to him because you don't think we'll get him.

I think there's a legitimate chance we can get him. A lot of people already said it, but Leonard Williams was a popular pick for the top prospect last year and he went to the Jets at 6. Why not Bosa or another elite prospect to the Ravens at 6?

I think Jerry would be content rolling the dice and building a star studded roster, and plugging his qb in avid watching the team take off. Idk Jerry just doesn't strike me as the type to take whatever qb is there because they need one. This isn't to say they don't like one of them, I'm just saying if they see the qb prospects realistically I think they would prefer some other options

We'll see, I guess. Sitting at #4, with the Browns ahead of him, I think he is very likely to take a QB. It depends on how much they like them, but I think Goff makes a ton of sense for him.

I've been thinking the same thing. I was really happy when they took Manziel, but Goff or Lynch could actually be good. It's kind of a double edged sword.

Yeah. The only thing I guess I hope for is that the Browns start them early and they never take off due to bad coaching & early expectations to be successful. I think Goff is about two years (of learning, and that's seasons) from being ready to start. He may be able to start, but I think he really needs that time to get it all down.
