Why would we talk to Linta atm when the team didn't even meet yet?

I would have thought $28 mil on cap space would be an issue that warranted some initial conversation even during the season, knowing Linta and how long is this going to be dragged for.

Indeed.

That cap number just simply is not sustainable, or warranted. Wake up and get to work, Linta.

not according to ozzie.

Eh, I guess. I honestly think the Ravens can sustain that cap hit. I wouldn't even be surprised if we did. I love Joe but perhaps the team decides to play it safe with the injury? Perhaps we want to avoid another extension that ends up hurting us? These are valid reasons to avoid an immediate restructure/extension. I think it is best for us to do the restructure, but it may not ultimately be the best thing. The off-season has begun and positioning has already started. The game is afoot! lol

I hate offseason. Can't wait for some Ravens football.

The post-draft off-season is the worst. We know what players are coming in but have to wait to see if they'll be any good.

Joe Linta on Flacco's contract negotiations: "I didn't know that we were negotiating...There are no conversations ongoing at the time."

Peachy...

Is that donkey face ever going to act like a professional ever in his life?

Ravens bagged him the biggest money ever in his lifetime, and he is going to bag another one if renegotiated.

The past contract he worked on were all 3rd-tier garbage chumps. Because that is all he can get being a Horses rear. So he bagged Joe Flacco. Now he think his a shot caller.

The guy is the first rate [profanity deleted].

I have no idea what you are complaining about the Ravens have not asked to extend him.  There will be no renegotiation.  There will be no money saved by giving Joe a new contract.  Instead the team would pay Joe a lot more money and then in 3 years they would have a huge contract problem again.   Joe would gladly take an extension that pays him a ton of money.

But the team put themselves in this position.  They could have had the contract be a 20 million cap hit each year.  They choose to borrow from the future.  The future is now here.  They can borrow from the future again and have an even bigger problem or they can just take the cap hits now.

No offense but you need to take a look at how the cap works along with NFL contracts. Joe has already received most of his "guaranteed" money. He'll be restructured, or he'll be cut. Period. No QB has gone into a season with a 28m cap hit, and no other team will pay him more than 20 a year. Its just how contracts and the nfl works. Linta is just being a clown. Nothing to see here.

Brees and suh have a higher cap this year. Joe won't be cut.

And neither one will play under that cap number. Cmon both guys mentioned basically flopped this year. Honestly I see Brees as possible retirement. He had his heyday. The Saints are in a bigger flux than we are. And Suh, he might even be shown the door. Neither are good examples.

Edit: Now I,will say Joe wont be cut. No way at all. The 2 top QBs honestly wont fit here, and really not top flight talent anyway. Browns and Niners need fresh blood, let them flunder with those 2. BUT as a caveat, next year if we walk in with his contract the same youre looking at another possible top 5 pick and theyre are a couple guys who could stand out. This wont be popular with the fan base of course and Ill get negged but oh well. I love the TEAM and want a perennial contender. I dont care about individuals. Greater good and all that. But I seriously doubt it comes to all that, even Linta isnt that foolish.

their cap hits are higher at the moment they are perfect examples. But ignoring facts is fun

Yes, at this moment they are. Fact. But reality and what happens in the next few months are different. But if you wanna beat your chest and say Joe is only 3rd as far as projected cap hit than Ok. Oohrah.

He might. Hes up there with Brady and Manning for age. The other 2 are in the playoffs and possibly are even built to go again next year. The Saints. Jeez where to start? Dunno, he might just walk away. Why come back? Just to get pummeled somemore? Theyre in full rebuild and he's obviously not going to be in their long term plans. Ala he either gets talked into it or does it on his own.

The Rams dont have the line to protect him, or the receivers. Not to mention the possible move to LA and a owner thats basically sold them out. Thats not a good fit at all. IF he doesnt retire I could see Miami as a possible fit for next year. Tannehill is a scrub. But they have a ton of good receivers and a good line when healthy. He might stretch out another 2 years down there and good momma brady a run for his money.

he may have received it but it's split over 5 years for cap purposes. We won't be able to cut him as then it will all hit the cap this year.

They also have a different cap situation. Whether that be few mill or several mill. Our cap can't keep Joe as it is @28

I'm just ranting about Linta. I hate that guys guts. Never seen so much disrespect from a small fry agent like himself toward Ravens organization.

He said some things during Joes contract negotiation that were just straight up classless. He is a jerk.

I think we really need to focus on adding a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball as well.  We already know that we lack one on defense, but we're missing that guy on the offensive side of the ball, too.  It doesn't have to be an Odell Beckham type (although I surely wouldn't complain lol), but we could use a Jacoby Jones type.  He may not have been perfect, but every time he stepped on the field for us, he was a threat for the big play.  We had nothing close to that last year, and of course a certain 1st round WR pick from last year remains to be seen.

we are coming off a 5-11 season. we need to spend a little to right the ship.... his contract needs fixed. no way we can swing 28M and then deal with the contracts that come with a 6th, 37th  and so forth picks while adressing WR/LT, replacing upshaw, and a cornerback if that isn't touched in the first round.

I have a really good feeling about him honestly. Maybe he's our guy. I still think we need to add a legit WR or two.

FO basically admitted to this so I'm not too worried with how they'll go around to address the position.

I just hope they are legit. I think we'll either draft two or sign one and draft one. I honestly think we need playmakers.
