[News] Eisenberg: Winning Was Well Worth Five Draft Spots

44 posts in this topic

I just got back tonight from visiting the in-laws in Pittsburgh. I was in a Pittsburgh bar with my Ravens jersey for the game. Trust me all those Steelers fans were in complete shock they lost that game and when the Jets beat the Patriots in OT they were all so depressed. Boy were they really hating on Tomlin. Not kicking that FG on the opening drive really upset a lot of those fans. One guy was screamed, "You are on the 'bleeping' road, take the 'gee dee' points!" That win felt so wonderful!!!!!!! After the season we had this year, to sweep the Steelers and knock them out of the playoffs (hopefully the Jets beat the Bills) --- allowed me save face this holiday. It was the best Christmas present ever! Thank you Ravens!!!!!! I will take that over the draft slot any day!

If during the season your team is looking at draft picks next spring, your team is a losing football organization. That certainly is not the Ravens. Last Sundays victory was so great and so well deserved, it was savored by us all. looking forward lets draft far smarter than the recent past. But for now....BEAT the Bengals. Go Ravens!

As long as we pick in the top 10-12 I don't care. I want so badly for us to end this season on a positive note with 2 wins against division opponents too! Especially with those teams having a lot to lose with losses. Imagine the confidence that'll instill in the younger players going into 2016! I'll take a win over a few draft spots especially now!

Does it suck that we drop a few places as a reward after a great win? Yes.

Do I appreciate that my team will fight till the end and go down kicking? Definitely!

And that's why we love Ravens football!

No we need a top ten talent that will help us win for the next 5-7 years, if the offense does anything but take a knee on every play I am going to be pissed

Why even play the game if you're playing for draft picks? Play like a Raven, give it your all. As long as the Ravens play like everything is on the line that's all that matters to me. GO RAVENS!!!

Any other year I would say win but they last 5 years of draft picks has not been true Ravens type players and I'm hoping the higher the pick the better the chance of not blowing it. I want to see some players stand out and I hope Bengals playbetter than Pitts.

It is always worth beating the Steelers. But the Browns win hurt. We would be sitting pretty at 2 or 3 spot right now if not for the Miracle in Cleveland. That win will cost us more than it was worth.

There were 3 other defensive lineman taken before we picked Suggs in his draft. In fact I think Polamalu came out in the same draft and was picked somewhere in the 20s.

I think fans should take pause after cosidering the above and also 2 other recent happenings. Chip Kelley's firing and Clowney's no. 1 selection. College football is college football. The analogy of talent applicable in the NFL is only somewhat accurate. You never really know how it'll translate and there are a million other variables at play when determining if a player was worth his draft spot- something that you can really only assess years down the road. Not the least of the variables are aspects like -- the drafting team's development, training, and coaching prowess; the positions situation on that team (will they new guy rotate or have a chance to sit and learn); can he stay healthy; does the supporting cast of players around him allow his talents to come to the fore, is he at the top end of his talent or is there a sizeable gap between his raw athleticism and what he can be coached; how quickly does he learn and does he repeat mistakes; can he stay out of trouble on and off the field etc etc.

Nothing beats winning over Pittsburgh, I'd swap draft positions with the Steelers if we could have knocked them out of the playoffs. The Jets blew it today, I hated seeing those towels flying around in Buffalo... ugh.
