[News] Eisenberg: Winning Was Well Worth Five Draft Spots

44 posts in this topic

Realistically the only really good players we will miss out on are Bosa, Tunsil, and maybe Stanley. There is still a ton of talent and we must instill a winning pedigree in all Ravens so that they know we are all about winning!

Beating the Steelers was worth it but there's no way you can make a case that beating the Bengals is worth it especially considering we're having so many backups playing and A.J. McCarron is starting for them. A win really proves nothing for next year when it will seem like a completely different team is playing (Flacco, Smith, Perriman, Suggs etc etc).

My math says we are 6th. Not 8th.

1. Titans 3/12,

2. Browns 3/12

3. Cowboys 4/11

4. Niners 4/11 (Might fall behind us Sunday. Have tiebreak)

5. Chargers 4/11

6. Ravens 5/10

7. Dolphins 5/10 (Beat us. Have tie break)

8. Jags 5/10 (Face mask, Defense, Dummervil. Although the Oline wasn't set. Have Tie Break)

I think this article might be off by 2 spots... isn't it?

Look Ravens need the highest draft picks possible. After all the misses the last five years they need all the help. Play tuff and look like you want to be here next year.

I won't deny, or even disagree with, Any of the reasons given about how important, and satisfying, that win and one against the Bengals was/will be. I'm glad the first one happened and hope the second one will as well. But, I'm not going to lie. I would have absolutely Loved having the 3rd pick in the upcoming draft, and I Do believe that not having it will force us to miss out on at least one player that I really think we could have used, and probably will make us miss a few more that could have really made a difference. So, the win, or two, will definitely be costly. Big price tag. The thing is, though, I wouldn't have been at all surprised that if we Would have had that 3rd pick, Ozzie would have traded out of it. In fact, I think it would have been likely. Ramsey would have been really nice though. I can't see Ozzie trying to jump up, even though he's got a ton of picks, but it IS possible. Just how badly does he want a shut down corner, or the best pass rusher? We shall see. Too bad we can't trade comp picks until the draft after this one. Had we been able to trade them this year it would have been helpful and, I think, more tempting for Ozzie.

would like to stay in the top 10 so i hope we lose a close one. we need pro bowl caliber play makers on this team to get us back to being  contenders. 1 pro bowler drafted on defense in 7 years and that is cj moseley. im sure brandon williams will get one shortly but better drafting must take place

I'll never complain about a win against the Steelers. Besides, we've been heaping praise on Ozzie for a long time, so should it really matter where we pick? Time for Oz to prove his genius!

A season sweep of the Steelers was worth dropping to 8th overall pick but beating the Bengals IMO won't be worth possibly dropping out of the top 10 picks of the draft. Given the Ravens' recent track record against the Bungles, especially as visitors- I think it's highly unlikely the Ravens will win Sunday anyhow. Add in to that equation the facts that Cincy has the top scoring defense in the NFL, and they're playing for a 1st round bye- I just don't see the Ravens pulling off the upset.

Its disgraceful that some of you want to lose it doesnt show ravens culture and sounds like you could be snoop and steelers fans. with that being said let me go over some details that put the draft position into perspective Allen hurns the wr that kicked our butt was undrafted out of the university of miami victor before his injury undrafted made a name for himself and was considered a top notch guy now johnny football who was drafted in the top10 and has a 2-4 record in two years as a starter justin gilbert a top notch cb prospect taken 6th overall by cleveland and has made little to no impact at all and one more example Darrius heyward bay a top pick by oakland and has done very little in the last few years with the exception of being in pittsburgh this year. my point is position is nice to have but very rare does it affect anything in truth we can get better picks at the lower level of the first round like teddy bridgewater because its all about the talent not the numerial position so put these names in perspective before you turn ur back on winning moment is always nice and its always hard to start from a down note but when your two positives it carries futher into next season to want to do more

I agree with John! Play like there's no tomorrow, and when the dust settles, we'll see where we stand! It wouldn't be right to all the players that have stepped up to fill in for all the injuries to go at it any other way. We need to install the confidence in them that the vets aren't the only ones that can getter' done!! And Boy did they Getter' Done!! And I'll be (blank) if I'll sell them short now for even 20 draft spots, let alone 10! Besides, I have grown rather fond of picking in the last spots in the draft over the years! Call me crazy, but winning is what it's about! I mean, what good are draft picks, if you don't take the time you have to build the players you've got from them? And the one thing that I learned this year, (and it took a year like this to see it!) is that as long as we have John Harbaugh coaching our team, Ozzie making the picks and Steve running the ship, We'll Never Be Losers!!! We're either winning or building to win!! But, Never Losers!! Thank You, John, Ozzie and Steve for the Greatest Organization in the NFL!!! So Win, Lose or Draw, Ravens fan for life!! ravgo52

This topic has been going on for well over a month now. The answer comes back the same every time. You play to win the game. No one who is successful, or is ever going to be successful, gets there by rolling over. There is value placed on the various slots in the draft, but there is a greater value in proving to yourself and to your team mates what you are made of and that you're willing to work together and play with pride.

Make no mistake ... there will almost certainly be a player between #3 and #9 that will be better than who we will get. And you can bet that everyone who is in the camp who believes that we should quit playing football to secure that higher pick will say that is who they had their eyes on all along and we missed them because of our foolish desire to get in front of our rival opponents and prevent them from walking over us to achieve their goals.

You people are acting like higher draft picks are some kind of guarantee of a winning season. Winning seasons come from winning games, not picking higher. Look over the history of the draft, and you will find that top picks don't always pan out (Johnny Manziel, RGIII). You never, ever want to start a culture of "Let's lose games to get picks." That turns into an attitude of acceptable losing, which is, of course, not acceptable. I hope we clobber the Bengals!

I will take a win over the Steelers anytime, all you need to do is look at the post game articles in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Steelers fans posts to realize it was totally worth it. The Steelers fans were incensed, firing Tomlin and the GM, this loss stung big time. As for the Ravens, this division is wide open next year, Cinncinati has a bunch of important free agents, they do not like to spend. Pittsburgh is not elite by any means and Cleveland, well enough said. The Ravens unknowns to me include how critical were the injuries? Where do we stand as far as the salary cap? How do we get better skill players on the field? I looked at this year's team prior to game 1 and wondered who was going to make the plays? It is a playmaker's league now, we desperately need some on both sides of the ball.

The draft is full of busts and greats, and many of the league's best players emerged beyond the top ten. I just hope we draft wisely, regardless of where we end up. Play to win, always.

I believe draft slot tiebreaker are strength of schedule. Has nothing to do with head to head record

Some people you just can not please. Ravens will do well in the draft regardless of the pick. Trust in Oz. I am sure Perriman will return strong and so will Joe. We do need some more playmakers on offense for Joe. Go Ravens.

The ravens need that C-Mac or Reed type talent in the secondary. This should their goal. Secondary is our weakest position and that's a very bad thing in this pass happy league. The ravens will lay down for no team and I don't expect them to this game. The fan in me wants them to win. It's the bengals and we're overdue. But there is still that part of me that is looking ahead. I wouldn't be mad if they lost.

The win over Pitt has definitely boosted the team's confidence and I will not be surprised if we go to Cincy and win. As for our current draft spot, all of you who keep saying we cant't afford to pick outside of the top 10, I got news for you. Ray Lewis was selected 26th, Jamie Sharper was 34th, Duane Starks & C-Mac were 10th, Heeeeeeap 31st, Reeeeeeeeeeeed was the 24th in 2002, JJ was picked at 109, Dawan Landry 146th, Sam Koch 203rd, Yanda was picked 86th in 2007, Joe Flacco & Ray Rice 18th & 55th in 2008, Arthur Jones 157th, McPhee 165th, Jimmy Smith 27th, Upshaw and K.O. were 35th and 60th in 2012, Brandon Williams 94th and it goes on. Why should I doubt the FO when every team in the NFL knows we DRAFT well every year?? Even the fans of other teams tell me you guys always find diamonds in the rough. Let's end the 4 game skid to the Bengals and finish strong. Cheers!

Our pass defense leads the league in fewest yards allowed in the past 7 weeks. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

i have to say that management failed in fixing our secondary, we are now heading into the third offseason with this as a pressing need. we need to move past a lack of quality guys in our secondary

If the Ravens stay in the top ten, they need to trade up and get Bosa for our team. He will be a huge pick for our team and a talent secondary player corner or safety.

Stats like that can be deceiving. What are those seven teams' rankings in pass offense? Did they have their run games working and just threw the ball less? Either way, it all boils down to the W/L. But, I imagine you were inferring an improvement in the overall play of the pass defense and you are probably right.

Yep, it's the little improvements that will only get better. Our pass defense jumped 18 spots in 7 weeks based on ESPN and NFL which is a major improvement if you ask me.
