Ideal situation for the Ravens

50 posts in this topic

people just want somebody they can assign blame to and point fingers at. If they actually took the time to look at the statistics and to consider the circumstances they would actually realize he's done quite well. I bet you that a few days ago almost nobody on these boards could have told you that we have the number 1 pass defense since week 7- too busy bashing pees to even see it.

Wow, really... that's pretty cray?

It just hasn't generally looked that way to me. Webb is slow to the ball, Jimmy gets burned (too much for his new contract) and K. Lewis aka. Magnum P.I. never turns around to locate the ball. Oh, and Kyle... Arrington is it?

Wright has acclimated quite well lately though imo.

I can't wait for offseason re-tooling, it's always an exciting time of the year.

yeah its hard to believe. I can't stand it when the defenders don't turn and look for the damn ball..drives me nuts. Half the time the ball is right there for the taking if they would just look for it. However they've also dropped about a dozen too. We've got to create more turnovers next season If we expect to make a run.

Totally. We have plenty of guys who do that already. We need to find a playmaker here badly.

I was just thinking about this right now and firmly believe that the best case scenario for us is to hit on our early draft picks and get production from them. I look at our past five drafts and while we have hit on picks, we have surely whiffed on plenty as well. I look at our 2013 draft and even though our late picks have done well, our first two picks have not done much. I look at our 2015 draft and while it looks promising, we have not gotten much out of our early picks(Perriman and Williams) and while you can attribute it to outside factors, Perriman's injury and Williams being a TE, that doesn't change we didn't get a lot from them. Our 2014 draft was truly sick, outside of that, I can't say we hit homeruns.

I'd also point out that in our past 7 drafts, we have only drafted one pro bowler, and I honestly don't think about the fact that some of our guys have been underrated(Webb, K.O, Jimmy, Wagner), when you have only drafted one player who has made the prob bowl in the past 7 seasons, then I think it speaks volumes to some of the troubles that we have had in the draft room.

Pretty sure that's generally the plan. Doesn't always work out as you stated, but I don't think you're coming up with a new concept.

Nah, that's always the plan but has it worked out? No. People talk about, "We need this, we need that", we need to do better in the draft. When you only have drafted one pro bowler in the past seven drafts, then obviously there is going to be a decline in the team. It's not a new concept, but its one that is not brought up constantly as it should be.

Agreed and that's why of late Deforest Buckner has moved up on my list. He strikes me as a sure thing where as guys like VH3 and Ramsey while we need guys at those positions are less of a lock to me.

Wouldn't be an awful pick, but I just really want to hit on a position of need. With that said Buckner is ultra-talented so I wouldn't be disappointed.

Yeah I'd love to hit on position of need, but with the #6 pick you need to be sure of what your are getting.

What is there to like about Caldwell as a playcaller?

uptempo offense but other than that not sure. Caldwell did a great job in 2012 when he had all the pieces to work with and I think he's even calling plays currently for The Lions .

Will Hill had one of those today. Total bailout ... Bengals had no right to get a positive play out of it, but Hill just runs straight into the receiver without even seeing where the ball is. Hill has some redeeming qualities ... but deep pass coverage isn't one of them.

No way Trestman should go but I wouldn't mind The Ravens bringing in some guys like Ken Whisenhunt,Pep Hamilton, Pat Shurmur and etc as offensive assistant to help our offense be more potent. The move  would  make sure The Ravens have a viable candidate to replace Trestman if he decides to leave  in the next two years or so.

It's difficult because the latter half of the top 10 is pretty questionable honestly.

Have you ever seen a DC get hired as a HC on another team, get fired, and then go back to the original team as DC? I can't say I've ever seen that happen. Not only would he have to be interested, but we'd have to move on from Pees. We'd also have to decide how many of his position coaches he can bring with him, etc... It's a wet dream conjured up by bitter Pees haters and hopeless romantics. Too many variables if you ask me.

Pees is just completing the last year of his contract so it is possible if Pees retires or Ozzie lets him go. I don't think he will be let go so I'd say Pagano can come back as a secondary coach with a much higher title so he can be paid more like we did for Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo, like many other released head coaches, accepted a position coaching job until something better come up.

Baltimore hired Spagnuolo as a senior defensive assistant before the 2013 season, then promoted him to assistant head coach/secondary coach in 2014

Treasman needs to stay.  Is he the best?  Nah.  Could he be?  *shrugs* I dunno.  Maybe.  One way to find out.

You are kidding yourself if you don't thing the O.C. revolving door has had no effect on our offense.

I think a lot of kinks and bugs may have been worked out this season.  I think next season is going to be a significant step up.

How about pettine? He was just fired...I've heard he has a pretty good defensive mind

He was a part of the Ravens staff way back when Rex was the DC and left with him to the Jets. He was our LB coach at that time if I remember right.

Yeah that's exactly how I feel. I feel like this draft has a lot of hit or miss players and not too many guys that stick out as a sure thing.
