Jaylon Smith-LB-Notre Dame

Goodness, the injury looked awfully bad. I hope he is fine. Can't say for sure if he is our guy but I do hope he is fine.

This probably belongs in the LB thread, but with talks of how Jack would be too good to pass up if he falls to the second, I think Smith deserves the same conversation. Obviously depending on what the injury is (and whether it would make him fall, like an ACL).

Jack will never fall now if Smith suffered a serious injury. He'll likely be the first LB selected if that's the case. I'd definitely take Smith if he falls in the second though. Edited by GrimCoconut

The talk of Jack in the second seems to have cooled off lately, but I agree. If Smith's there for our second pick (as he could well be if he did his ACL or something to that effect) we'd be hard-pressed to pass him up imo. I'd love to have him alongside CJ.

I know now what I want to happen with this off-season.. Switch to a 4-3, trade back, draft Floyd, trade back up, draft jaylon Smith, use our remaining second for a true DE or the top remaining db. If Smith falls say.. Into the 20s, we would be searching high and low for a trade up, I know what I just suggested sounds ridiculous but man that would be sick. Could you just imagine having Floyd Mosley and Smith as a 4-3 lb corps?

If we'd gotten Marcus Peters last year, and if Brooks pans out as we'd like, we could recreate our own version of what the Seahawks run. That's obviously all a hypothetical, but it's a fun thought for sure.

Well if this is the case, Schwartz is available to be the DC.

Even I'd be on board for Smith if he fell past our 1st pick.  I've always been a huge fan of his but always had reservations due to the fit in this defense and using a top 10 pick on a guy like that.  I think he can survive in a 3-4 but I don't think he'll be near as good as he would be in a 4-3.  I'm more than willing to overlook that in the late 1st range if he falls there.  I honestly think he might be the most talented player in the draft.

I don't understand why people thought Jack would fall. Didn't he just suffer a torn meniscus?

Not many ILB have gone high recently. That could be part of it. He's a special talent, though, and injuries have had a minor impact on prospects.

I'm just saying that if he was going to go top 15 before his injury, a torn meniscus at the beginning of the season won't change that.

It's hard to say where he'll go. Early predictions rarely prove true but in some cases do. It'll be interesting to see where he goes. He's a really special talent, though. I love the way he plays football.

Yeah I'm not exactly sure what people are seeing to think he would slip to the second. Most big boards have him as a top ten prospect. He's a special player because he can do so much so I don't see him making it past 20. Even with Smiths injury I'm not sure if he slips to the second, but if he does that's definitely a steal.

I saw on Twitter that he has a $5 million insurance policy and he starts to collect if he falls out of the 1st.

Obviously the extent of his injury is unknown, but it looked similar to Chubb's, which was multilligament (ACL spared), which is harder to return from than an ACL tear.

Scouts feared Chubb's would be a career ender because of how extensive the damage was to his PCL. If Jaylon's is anything near that, he's gonna be in for a very large fall.

I think there is some bad blood between the Harbaughs and Schwartz. So, I doubt he's coming to Baltimore to be DC.
