[News] Jimmy Smith: Bengals Are The AFC North Bully

36 posts in this topic

Bengals have been the biggest thorn in our side in recent years. It would be a huge mental boost for next year if we could turn around this losing trend and wrap up this year with a win against them. Plus, a Ravens win could further undermine the Bengals confidence going in to the playoffs. Really sick of losing heartbreakers to these guys.

Painfully ironic how the tables have turned. Just with a few legendary leaders and other key pieces gone, we are now the underdogs, the bullied ones.

Given the fact that we are not going to the playoffs, and we are a team in desperate need of better players.... I wouldn't mind seeing us lose this game respectively, as long as it helps us keep a high draft pick.

It went from an annoying distraction to hated rival when they beat us and vontaze burficts you know what chanted 0-3 bottom of thedivision baby after they beat us...

I agree that they had our number last season, as we were swept and it sucked out loud. However, 2013 we split wins and our loss came when we were already eliminated from the playoffs and had nothing to play for when we met them week 17 (plus Joe was in a knee brace and hardly had a stellar outing). 2012 was similar, we rested our starters in week 17 because we had no chance of getting a bye and were already AFC North champs. We beat their brains out earlier that year. We may be 4-2 over the past 6, but 2 games were essentially meaningless and we're at a -2 point differential over that time period. Hardly the domination people have made it out to be. Still hate the Bengals sooooo much.

We play to win, and regardless, we will be picking higher than we have in years....and that pick we will be there in every round...we used to trade out just to get a higher 2nd round pick, now we don't have to....

I've always felt the Bengals have been our kryptonite. The Steelers are our rival, but we actually get Ws pretty regularly against them. But the Bengals, going back to Carson Palmer throwing to Chad Johnson/TJ Housh, through Chad Ochocinco/TO, to now...they just have a way of getting the W at the last second.

Hope we can start switching that around. I'd love to beat them on their field and on their stupid-20-yard long-midfield logo.

The good Dr.'s list of most hated rivals looks like this lately:

1. Patriots

2. Bengals

3. Steelers

4. Everyone else in no particular order

BTW - Is anyone else STILL walking on air from Sunday's win? Made the 17 hour (with traffic)trek down 95 from Baltimore/DC/NOVA back to Tallahassee on Monday and chuckled to myself every time I drove past a Pittsburgh sticker with my GIANT Ravens window decal covering the back of my SUV...........

I'm pretty sure that was a win and we're in situation in 13.

It's domination.  We can't close out against them, and in, I think, 3 or 4 of those games, we've failed to score in the first half, and failed to contain Green when it mattered.  Harbaugh and Flacco have only had 1 good game I remember against them and that was the 12 opener.

well maybe we can change that fortune not just this year but with the draft in april and get a draft pick that can really shake that bengals offense up every single year perhaps dare i say jalen ramsey or perhaps even joey bosa

Smith sounds whipped and he plays whipped. He's back to facing down WO's and getting burned. A happy bounce and bad throw doesn't change that. He should stop talking immediately.

Well for me things are getting back to normal in this division and you have to earn it simple as that! Oh yeah "DO NOT LET RYAN MALLET LEAVE BMORE", "ESPECIALLY" if he beats the bungles! LETS GO! The Ravens just beat the hottest team in football so they say!

It's interesting Jimmy would say that because he was the guy that I hoped would be able to keep AJ Green in check. AJ Green has been a one man wrecking crew on the Ravens. I can think of 3 games where we had a late fourth quarter lead and Dalton throws to Green and he runs wild through the secondary . Once Reed left a lot of teams knew Ravens could be beat deep. Offensively, we don't have the Boldin, Pitta, Torrey threat. Bengals have a solid secondary and Ravens need quality guys to beat them. That's why Steelers give them fits, they have a a lot of good Wrs. If Perriman can be a threat, he plus Gilmore, Smith Sr. can stop this run of Bengals victories against us.

Pees for the love of God, put Jimmy on Green in man coverage and allow him to press! Put our safeties both over the top in case Jimmy gets beat. Also, send the heat! Wenning is their QB and if the defense can force a couple turnovers, I think we have a chance to pull off a win in a low scoring game!

Cant just assume that. It's a team effort, not just one player. If our D-line could get consistent penetration then it would make our CB's play more confident, and also make their jobs easier. And besides, you don't just "keep in check" a guy like AJ Green without everyone on the defense doing their job. Starts with good penetration from our D-line.

A win in Cinci to end the season means so much more that a few spots in the draft. It would however be more meaningful if Dalton was playing. We could finish the season 4-2 in the Division which would be really encouraging entering 2016 and I think it would put this teams focus back on to contending in 2016, as well as motivating guys in the offseason.

Let's see. We keep Brown in check on a regular basis and a slower YET bigger WR can hit us in the mouth so many times? A.J ALWAYS seems to get BIG plays against us for some reason!

Don't overreact. The Bengals are still the Bungles in my eyes. Yes they've won a few games, but they are still the lowly Bengals. Any team with 10 yrs of picking in the top 10 is going to be laden with talent, but what have they really done with any of that talent? Nada, Zilch when it time to play meaningful playoff games. No, I still think the Ravens and the Steelers are the bullies of the AFC North and they will continue to be till the Bungles actually win the SB (which I'll never see in my lifetime and I'm no Woodley either!)

They wont be respected by me until they have at least gave up a fight in the playoffs im talking have a powerhouse on the ropes reach the afc championship at least... Us and the steelers weve been through meaningful wars... won afc championships won superbowls... what have the bengals done in the last 25 years?

The Bullies? Really? They curl-up like little kittens everytime they get in the playoffs. Yeah, they've been a torn in our side for a few years now, but more like an annoying little brother with a four-leaf clover in his back pocket.

So many lucky bounces and tickie-tack calls in the last 2 years to win games. Bullies? I hate bullies anyway. They're traditional plagued with insecurity, low-self esteem and fear of failure (...and can't win a playoff game). To help them from this mental state; like all posers, you have to smack them back to reality or cuddle them like kittens. A good old school Raven butt-whooping now might just help them to win a playoff game in the future.

GO Ravens!!! Help them back to reality.

Does Jimmy mean the Bungles or does he visualize A.J. Green when he thinks Bungles? I can understand why he would call them a bully if he were just visualizing Green I suppose... Otherwise they are simply the world famous Bungles to me.

Believe it or not, PFT's Florio (who is a big Steelers fan), is picking the Ravens to beat the Bengals this week 27 - 20. He strongly believes Harbaugh has these guys, who should be on other teams practice squads, convinced they can beat anyone. That and he sees some teams on the rise, and he sees the Bengals headed for another one and done in the playoffs. A good way to get them feeling like they are losers, are to lose to the Ravens. AND What a way to end this bad season by beating our two division rivals and showing who we are. Of course, Harbaugh is winning and Ozzie is in the front office kicking the dog because of the draft pick.

Is this a good time to beat the Bengals? Lemme think. Bengals got nothing to play for. Ravens got nothing to play for. No Jimmy this is not a good time to beat them. You already had a chance to beat them and contain AJ Green once this season and you didn't! Please Ravens DONT win this game. It is useless. Bengals are in the playoffs and there is nothing we can do to knock em out. Winning = losing for us. Please AJ have the game of your life this Sunday. Why? Because the outcome of the game is meaningless.

AFCN is the most competitive division in football IMO. There is no bully. There are 3 teams that trade punches with each other.

AFCN Titles:

2015 Bengals

2014 Steelers

2013 Bengals

2012 Ravens

2011 Ravens

2010 Steelers

2009 Bengals

Looks like a "slobberknocker" division to me, where each team contends for titles just about each year (injury-riddled seasons aside,, that's just bad luck).

Also, each team seems to struggle with matchups that other division teams don't. I'm not sure "struggle" is the right term, but you get my drift.

Steelers struggle with Ravens

Bengals struggle with Steelers

Ravens struggle with Bengals

Maybe it's just due to matchups as another couple posters mentioned? Idk.

Of course, then there's the Browns, lol. Maybe someday they'll legitimately become competitive again and really make this division something to see.

No real bullies in this division IMO,, just tough competition.

Why do so many of you guys think picking in thetop five of the draft is a good thing? Have you ever heard of the Browns, the Raiders, the Tampa Bay Bucs ? Picking in the top five means YOU ONE OF THE WORST five teams in the NFL
