[News] John Harbaugh Won't Coach Philadelphia Eagles

36 posts in this topic

Never happen, Eagles are the opposite of playing like a Raven....Harbs is all about team, hard work, and discipline.....Eagles have none of those traits...Players always crying about playing time, or calling out other players as well as their own coaches....

As much as I haven't been all that thrilled w/the job Harbs has done the last two seasons, I do not believe for a second that he should be replaced. There are plenty of directions to look when wondering how to get the Raven Ship moving in the right direction again. If, after next season, things are the same, that will change. Ozzie should retire and I hope he does. Not to assign blame on him either, it's just that I think it's time and we have a fine and well qualified replacement for him who has waited patiently for his chance.

I'm just not sure there is a job out there that would draw Harbs away. Unless things deteriorate here over time, I think he's a Raven for life. I have the impression that Steve and John have a pretty solid relationship.

I think John understands that this is not the kind of organization that is going to cut someone off at the knees without an established trend of poor performance (or without a major PR meltdown that resulted in Rice's release). There is a reason why our ownership doesn't go on knee jerk killing sprees (though some fans seem to want us to operate in that fashion) ... and that is to build trust with their people.

Why would Harbaugh be eonsidering leaving the Ravens? Doesn't make sense to me at all. He has the support of the entire organization and his players. Yes, he wasn't great this season, but on balance he's been one of the better coaches in the league over the past 8 yrs and Bisciotti is a very patient and rational man! He'll be here as Ravens HC unless we have a string of bad seasons. This one doesn't count because of all the injuries...

Reports that Steve Smith Sr. will return to Ravens in 2016. Yes!!!

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ravens-receiver-steve-smith-sr-will-not-retire-will-play-in-2016-20151230-story.html

Just wanted to put a source behind that piece of info. I know Ian Rappaport reported this a couple weeks ago and SSS refuted it. But this appears to be coming straight from the horse's mouth.

Also, our site has a piece on this:

so any further discussions pertaining to this topic should go there.

Only a local Philly reporter would suggest something this ridiculous. Every coach has his faults, but with one SB championship and 6 of 8 seasons ending with a postseason run, I'll take Harbaugh over just about any coach. On a semi-related note- I am hoping like I've never hoped before that Chuck Pagano returns to Baltimore as a DC next year. Not that his firing is inevitable, but he turned down an extension this past offseason and even the Colts ESPN reporter is strongly suggesting that his time may be up in Indy. One can only hope...

I am a hardcore Baltimore RAVENS fan and I encourage Harbs to take the job in Philly or any opportunity that requires him to move on! The team has sank to new lows this season and since HOFer and on the field coach Ray Lewis retired Harbs short comings as a coach and leader have been exposed. Our win loss record since we last hoisted the Lombardi trophy is below 500. A ton of close losses to sub-par teams. No one who knows the game will look at this team and disagree that it under achieved. I hope it is good bye HARBS. BTW the over/under for him in Philly is 3 years.

I guess you missed the 2014 season. Coach Ray Ray didn't do anything for us.

Of course the Eagles would want him. He's a phenomenal coach and we probably don't realize how lucky we are to have him.

It's not like we have Fire Harbaugh threads or anything. And I agree with what others are saying about the divisive mentality inside the Eagles locker room and I really do think a great, positive motivator like Harbaugh would turn that attitude around. We are very lucky to have him, that thread should be deleted, it's an embarrassment.

Haha. Some of the comments I've read about Harbs should take the job in Philly are hysterical. Just remember, you never know what you have until it's gone. Haha. I think we have the most IR players in franchise history and most in the league right now. 90% of our offense is not playing. What do you expect a coach to do with those cards? I say he did a fine job for what has happened to us. We lost really close games because we couldn't finish. Some games was stolen from us by bad officiating and we only lost 1 game from a blowout. Relax people. Could be a lot worst than what you guys are saying. We still go out every week and play hard for Harbs and look, we ruined our rival chances of getting into the playoffs lol. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?! Let's do the same with the gingerbread man and is milk loving felines this come Sunday because as I stated before, Dalton always get saved by a toss up to AJ to steal a win from us. It's happened the past two seasons and we had them beat this season if it didn't happen at the end of the game. Lets go RAVENS!

I dont know of another team going over so much turn over at OC, DC, and players as much as the Ravens but any other team would be in complete disaster.

 It's funny how you say this and yet your words don't sink in. Our team is a disaster with all the things you mention. All the turnover is because nothing has been working. Over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again we try new personnel, new ideas, new schemes, new coaches, and none of it works out. None of it produces results. So what gives?

Harbs had success when he had a team full of grade A talent. Well gee, who wouldn't under those circumstances? For years the Ravens were constantly the most talented lineup in the league. But now that's not the case. And the results since have been abysmal.

The blame can't be heaped all on Harbs. It's bigger than him. It's a fundamental flaw in the overall thinking and methodology of the organization. And this is where Flacco comes in. After years and years of desperately struggling on offense the organization became far too enamored with the idea of a QB being the solution to all their problems. When they acquired Flacco they fell in love with the idea of an all-star QB. And every since then, they've been so in love that the entire organization has been corrupted. All winning was because of Flacco. All losing was because of everyone else failing Flacco. The whole organization has been so wrapped up for so long on the idea that Flacco is the team's savior, they've neglected building the team properly for years now. People even credit Flacco for the SB win, which is absolutely ridiculous because it was his receivers who did the real offensive work.

The organization will continue to make the same mistakes because with mindless fans continuing to sell out games no matter what the money will still roll in. Organizations who "get it" will busy themselves with building franchises who can win games and have a shot at the playoffs. It's gonna be another three years at least before our beloved organization gets it through their thick skulls.

To gekaap: the fact we have a large turnover in coaches is becuz they are taken from us to become head coaches for other teams and when they leave they tend to take some of their staff with them. A lot of our players have become too pricey for us to keep them all so THEY leave for a giant payday. Considering all the injuries and who they happened to this year and last (the secondary was decimated last year) I think Harbaugh and Ozzie have done a great job.

But hey, what's it matter?  Blind raging fans will continue to shout Flacco's name, because they can't be bothered (or don't have the ability) to think in terms more complex than the number 2 in binary code.

What grade A talent did we had under Harbs? Last I check, we won the division what 1-2 times. We were a wildcard team with aging vets. We weren't grade A. Our def surly didn't win us a SB. Last I check, it was a QB that went 11-0 tieing Joe Montana's playoff TD/INT ration. It was the receivers?!?!?! WHO THREW THEM THE BALL?! EXTENDED DRIVES? LAUNCHING A SWEET PASS TO JJ FOR A TD?!  I don't think you're a true fan lol. Our coaching turnover is not because of bad seasons, it's because our coaches are GOOD! Look at how many coaches left to be HC or OC or DC. Harbs is up their with Bellicheat with the most assistant coaches leaving.  The org is corrupt?! If that's the case, why is Ozzie top 5 maybe 3 when recognizing GM's in the league? His only problem is drafting receivers. He can't for the sake of him get that right. You do realize we missed the playoffs....twice counting this season under Harbs right? How many years has Harb's been our HC? Please stop it lol. The entire offense, GONE. IR am I correct? Kamar, Yanda, KO, Wagner are the remaining original starters lol. WE BEAT THE STEELERS WITH A 4TH STRING QB!?!?! Does that not speak volume of the leadership and control that Harbs have over that locker room?! We could've had a total of 5 TO's. DS, JS both had one. JS had one pick 6 called back and dropped one, K Lewis dropped one. They were making plays and fighting which is what Harbs preached all year. Limit TO, create TO, play fundamentally sound football. Smh where did you come from with all your false info?!

Hard Core fans Don't trash their Head Coach. This is his first losing season in 8 years, Brian Billick had 3 losing seasons in 9 years. As for new Lows it was 4 wins in 1996 we have 5 wins maybe 6. Ray Lewis was a  Great Player and Motivator, he was not a coach. As for moving on He is not going nowhere for a very long time, so How Hard Core are you Now?

Philly fans thought Kelly was the greatest, a "Genius". They now, have run him out. Eagles will always be like this, as long as ownership listens to the fans.

A close friend of mine is a talent scout for the Toronto Argonauts and he's done his fair share of travelling over the years, and has met some pretty interesting characters from the NFL (sat beside Rex Ryan on a plane, said he didn't stop laughing the whole time). He said after his first meeting with Harbs that he would probably run head-first into a wall if he asked him to, he's just that charismatic a leader. He's just a great head coach, plain and simple.
