[News] Late For Work 12/30: Future Of Ravens Wide Receiver Position

I think if you look at our last 3 drafts those assets are going to start paying dividends.  2013 - Brandon Williams, Wagner, Juszcyzk, Jensen, Lewis-Moore all starting to contribute and I'm not quite ready to give up on Elam or Art Brown yet either.  2014 - Mosely, Jernigan, Brooks, Gillmore, Urschel, Urban all playing meaningful snaps with Taliaferro and Campanaro showing potential.  2015 - Max Williams, Carl Davis, Zadarrius Smith, Javorius Allen and Nick Boyle all look like good NFL players.  Now if Perriman and Tray Walker also produce last years class could be the cornerstone of our turnaround.

I've been pretty surprised with how terrible this year has went for us but I think we have plenty of talent here and with early picks in next years draft (the highest we've picked in my years watching is Suggs at 10) it could be a very quick turnaround. Just my 2 cents.

I haven't seen anything from Lewis-Moore? I'm ready to give up on can't cover Elam...Thats why we signed Lewis and Hill. Camp is unreliable. Art Brown has 2 tackles on the SEASON. Zadarius is the only guy on that list that helps us beat the best QB's in the league, but you can't expect a rookie 4th Round pick to come in right away and replace an elite pass rusher that played OLB, DE, and DT depending on the down and distance. That is our current issue. Tray Walker never got a shot on this defense when we were desperate for CB's so my expectations are low. If you want to find a legit corner you need to invest in the position with a high draft pick or sign one for big money. My preference is the draft. Injuries are not the reason why this team is picking in the top 10.

Nobody should be sold on any player based on one season. LaQuan Williams, DeonteThompson, Ed Dickson, Marlon Brown all had rather good rookie seasons - that they all failed to follow through. If Butler has a good sophomore season, we can begin to hope, I guess.

Ed Dickson is still good,  One of Cam's favorite targets

Ehhh i dont know about all that i thought if healthy we were a solid pick to at least go really deep in the playoffs if not all the way to the big game. But like i said he was going to maximize his salary and PT combined and were we ready to pay a role player more than at least 40 million who had been injury prone who besides a solid rookie year had one year of solid production... There are some players that we just cant hang on too

So why did we have a losing record with Suggs, Flacco, Smith? But we pay Webby and Smith the big money? Great pass rushers sure do make CB's look better. There has been a lot of poor cap management with backload contracts and the failure to cut guys loose. Throw in the fact that we have missed on several top picks (Rounds 1-3) ever since we landed Gold in the Flacco Rice draft and you have a team in rebuilding mode in 2015.

Well first of all suggs played a half of the opening day so we never really held a losing record under him... secondly We started out with no continuity under the o-line when eugene got hurt the third play of our season... Wagner and jimmy have been hurt all season, which in turn caused trestman to have no faith in our run game. We all knew even if healthy going 3-4 wasnt all too bad of a stretch considering how rigorous of a schedule we were facing... never mind all the injuries and officiating that have not bounced our way this year. Those first 9 games I would say if one simple thing bounced our way we win those games... in denver if steve catches the ball while he was wide open in the end zone we win... in oakland if will hill doesnt get flagged on some iffy PI call and his int stands or if trestman doesnt decide to throw the ball out of nowhere down in the redzone on our final drive we win... We all know about jacksonville. Cinncinati is one of those games we truly lost... in cleveland if barnidge doesnt catch the ball with his feet we win... in SF if jimmy doesnt get flagged on a phantom holding call we in all likelihood win that game... if some ref doesnt make a terrible OPI call in miami we win that game... If we are healthy and get 50% of those scenarios to bounce our way were in the playoffs and we all know what type of magic happens for us in the playoffs... and to the cap point... we have just had a sizeable amount of misfortune take it however you want it i dont care... We sign justin to a three year 9 million dollar deal... GREAT value... we get elvis dumervil for 5-35 i believe great deal... we snag BWill in the third round we get CJ mosley Jimmy smith Timmy jernigan KO Crockett Maxx... daryl smith i believe for like 4-12... chris canty 2-6... will hill has been a TREMENDOUS success k lew* 3-9 (you might be one of his doubters so I will throw an *asterisk by him) steve 3-15 great value kamar as a tendered deal... Now I mean im not just about to sit up here though and not acknowledge that we have missed on people like Dennis in what I thought was a terrible deal... eugene was just bad luck but has been solid when out there on the field matt elam courtney to an extent art sergio mount cody jah reid Kyle we did a 3-9 on him I believe... the whole ray rice scenario was just so unfortunate... Matt schaub I really dont know the thought process behind that one... but i mean look at what we have picked up from the late rounds or the street... Rick wagner john urschel jensen looks like he is starting to come on... kamar jeremy butler is starting to look solid... we found a backup quarterback the other week for next year off the street... terrance west buck nick boyle... zadarius juice.... Ill tell you one thing I wouldnt want anyone else over ozzie for the general manager job right now than him

Really?  From what I see, Dickson has 15 catches on the entire season for a measly 121 yards.  Dickson has 10 games this season with 0 or 1 catches.  Javorius Allen had 12 catches for us against Miami alone for 107 yards.

I get all the "Camp is unreliable" talk because everyone gets pumped after he plays and want to see more but I think people forget that he was ready to play after 3 weeks. We have a ton of players that miss a few weeks.  He was screwed out of potentially having a breakout season because of the whole Periman thing..Last season he missed a few games but came back and had a great game against the Patriots in the playoffs. Talent wise he is one of our best WR's coming into next season and after another year in the weight room this could be that year for him. You just dont throw away talent because of potential injuries otherwise how many guys on that IR list would you throw away? He is cheap with huge upside..

Oh and Waller has been moved to TE..

Campanaro is a gamer. If he doesn't make it here, I sure hope that some other team gives the guy a shot. He has the drive and the attitude to make it in the NFL if he can get a shot. I don't buy that crap about him being to small either.

They didn't have Rookie Tight End Nick Boyle on the list he had 18 catches in 11 games, and would of had more except for a concussion and the 4 game suspension.

This is false. He's 8th on the team in receptions and averages less than 2 targets a game.

There are a lot of what ifs. Good teams finish games. Remeber when we used to blow out the bad teams and sometimes even the good ones? That was because our defense was always on attack mode and we had playmakers that believed it was their job to win the game. We also had a Offensive Coordinator that went for the kill shot. I think this team is setting itself up for a solid 2016, but Ozzie and Harbaugh did not have them ready to make it through 2015 on top, and we still need more defensive playmakers to get there. PS: Injuries happen to everyone, every year. Bad calls go against teams every year. Great teams overcome adversity, and the 2015 Ravens were just mediocre even if you take out all the bad breaks. I'm not calling for Ozzie's head. I am saying he needs to hit on his 1st and 2nd day picks more often than has been in the last 5 years. You can't deny that we have been drafting less pro bowlers under Harbaugh than under Billick. That is a fact.

Who thinks the F.O. has learned from letting receivers walk who are worth keeping? Who thinks nothing will change? Why?

So that list includes Boldin and...

The outlook for the 2016 Ravens wide receiver group may look a lot like it did when the 2015 season got underway = SCARY...... In the video below, you can see that cornerback Lardarius Webb tapped outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw to back up behind the line of scrimmage before the ball was snapped. Instead, Upshaw took another baby step forward = WHAT ? I can't we're still talking about Kamar Aiken- on any other team, he's on the bench. What's the point of having 12 receivers if only one (SSS) can play? Oz really messed the WR position up this year for us - and CB too because he totally ignored that as well.

I agree but what I believe happened was we didn't have game breakers we didn't have a Torrey smith an effective running game to set up anything this year... I think if its one thing we have learned was going into the year, at least I thought and I believe some of the team thought that with the west coast system we had we didn't need home run hitters... We relied too much on our oline and running game... We didn't have solid depth behind those either... I know team are supposed to overcome obstacles but I mean you have to admit we went through a LOT this year and I'm not sure any other team could have done more with what we were given

Just because Ed Dickson is on a winning team does not mean he is worth anything as a player.  You can hide a Waste products among a bunch of diamonds and the diamonds will still be valuable.  We won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer as our quarterback, so Ravens fans know about hiding our weaknesses.  I do believe Flacco won MVP in a Super Bowl with Michael Oher blocking for him even though Oher was ranked dead last among all tackles in pass protection that season and that list included 79 tackles.

Since I'm sure its only a matter of time till Oz asks my opinion; I will save him the phone call.

WR:

SSS

Perriman

Aiken

Campanero

Waller

Mathews

Butler/Givens(maybe)

oh good grief no. We better give it more attention than that or you're looking at another year like this one.
