Coach Kelly Fired!

71 posts in this topic

Don't be surprised if Jimmy Haslam fires Mike Pettine and GM Ray Farmer and gives complete control of the Browns to Chip Kelly. As much as the Titans would probably like to bring him in, Jimmy would probably pay Chip more to come to Cleveland. They were interested in him before he signed with Philly. Chip is also on record saying Manziel would be a perfect fit to run his offense.

I mean, I'd generally agree, though it's also quite ludicrous for a franchise to give you total control and expect you to put together a winning team exactly the way you want it in just about 12 months.

this is exactly what I was thinking. Even with the crazy roster moves, I thought another year at least, need time to develope the system

What gets me is Kelly's offense is mainly predicated on speed but yet he unloads Maclin and Desean Jackson. What Chip doesn't understand is the NFL is a player league not a scheme league. Plus his offense needs to have a mobile QB. So he trades for Sam Bradford?

I don't think his offense needs a mobile QB. It just needs one with a quick release, and who is good at reading what a defense will do before the snap.

Exactly this. Maybe he should make a play for Peyton wherever he lands. :P

Peyton in his prime would have been perfect for it, but I can only imagine the two arguing over play calling since Peyton prefers calling his own plays.

I remember Aaron Rodgers saying this year that Peyton calling his plays was fairly overblown. He just makes a string of adjustments at the line, which would have been perfect for a Chip-run side.

Actually Drew Brees could be an option if Kelly lands on a side with enough cap space. I think he has a couple of good seasons yet. Brees and Kelly joining the Browns - how dramatically different would that be for the AFCN?

I can imagine the headline now...

"Chip Kelly and Drew Brees join Cleveland Browns: New Head Coach Trolls New City by Benching New Quarterback for More Mobile Johnny Manziel"

The potential madness alone would be worth the price of admission.

Actually, Gabbert could probably do well in that offense. He could probably do as well, if not better than Foles did.

In Chip Kelly's first season, teams weren't used to the tempo of his offense. By years two and 3, defenses caught up to him.

He has the most simplistic playbook in the NFL, he relies on running the same few plays from multiple formations and a rediculous tempo to catch defenses off guard. He values tempo and number of snaps over time of possession.

There is no way I'd be happy with him as our OC.

I think from afar it's easy to say because of his college career that he would be an awesome OC to have, but nah I'll pass.

Like I said, his offense could run bottom teir defenses up and down the field, but when faced with a physical, good defense, the Eagles would fold every time..i watch most of their games.
