[News] Late For Work 12/29: Win Costs Ravens 5 Draft Spots, Marlon Brown's Uncertain Future

63 posts in this topic

Two things. The Ravens really need to look at the combination of Jensen and KO on the left side. Since we made that move, the offensive line looks much more like an offensive line and is actually protecting the QB. Too bad Harbaugh had to wait until our QB was crippled before he made the move. Second thing, Smith dropped an INT in the first part of the game and had two PI calls where he was clearly beat and didn't even try to make a play, he just basically threw the receiver out of bounds. I guess you saw a different game than I did because Smith didn't line up opposite of Brown, he just covered the left side of the field. Therefore, he cant take credit for shutting down Brown, he was just a small piece. Yes he got an interception, its about time, but he should have had two easily had he not dropped one and he has done that in a number of games. I am not convinced that I saw anything in Smith that makes me believe in 2016 he will be a shutdown corner, nothing.

the Ravens look pretty strong at WR headed into the offseason. Brown should not be overpaid as a restricted free agent by the Ravens.

We do? We look worse than last off season when we had a healthy Sr and a newly signed BP. We have a ton of uncertainty at the WR position.

I guess, but that doesn't explain that when his number was called he dropped a lot of passes and also just had a hard time getting open. Couldn't shake the initial jam at the line.

Marlon didn't drop a whole lot of passes thrown his way. He made a lot of catches for as many times as he was targeted.

Most of the time he wasn't supposed to get off the line cuz he was blocking. The schemes just didn't fit his style and abilities. You have to put players in situations to succeed like he was put in his first year.

This team does not need the #1 nor the #3 pick. 8 or 10 will be just fine as long as we hit whatever pick we have. The OL is what we need to cement, then I would go defense the rest of the way.

Absolutely. Glad the Broncos won last night, as that eliminates one other possibility for the Steelers.

Now, all they have left is to root for the Bills to beat the Jets. Man, that should be a good game. Rex's former team ... he'll have those troops motivated (and they will already be as motivated as we were to kill their in-division rivals chances of making the post-season).

I don't say this often, but ... GO JETS!

I feel like a closet Jets fan rooting for them 2 weeks in a row!

I had Cowboys fans gleefully thank me for flip flopping draft spots with them with our win over Pittsburgh.

I didn't have the heart to remind them that their GM is Jerruh Jones.

Which begs the broader point for anyone that feels down for slipping down the draft board... the teams ahead of us are there because they routinely screw up their picks and fail to develop high-end talent to its full potential.

I think a big battle in camp will be at RB, We wanted West but Cleveland moved up to get him, and now that we have him, and the way he has played, i think TF might be in danger....

Good problem to have, with an aging Forsett lets keep the depth. I always like a rotation that can feature a change of pace as well, hopefully this RB committee can rival the 2008 crew.

We will still have a top 10 pick, I consider that gold compared to where we usually draft, if you can find players like Brady and Antonio Brown in the 5th rnd you can find players like that in the top 10 of rnd 1.

Please, don't tell me any Raven fan would rather lose to the Steelers than draft a few spots lower in the 1st Round! Why even talk about this? Great win, Sunday, RAVENS! Great Win!

The passes he did drop were usually not in his catching radius.  Also, there was this guy named Smith S.r. who came on board and got targeted much more than any other receiver on the team.  I wonder how much of Marlon's blocking contributed to yards gained either on the run or passing.  What people sometimes forget is that there is  more going on than meets the eye when it comes to driving down the field.  I agree, Marlon will be on another team and will do well barring injuries.

is anyone else seriously sick of jalen ramsey being referred to as "the nations top cornerback"? if he was the nations top cornerback, then this would be the worst CB class of all time. ramsey is a safety, and he is barely that, he is an attacking hybrid player and nothing more, if you are considering ramsey a cb then look no further than his backpedal which consists of hop-stepping sideways and just watch how reluctant he is to turn his hips and how much he keeps his eyes on the line. he will get toasted as a cb in the nfl.

lol i got 12 negs from yesterday's post because I said steelers win wasn't worth it. We're out of the running for best OT and Safety available. You don't think the Steelers will be happy to hear that come next spring at draft? Sometimes we can only think about this moment rather than thinking a few steps down the line. I don't care about little red arrows bc I have a point that some people can't admit.

Phenomenal? Smith moved the ball for Steelers better than the Steeler. If K.Lewis doesn't faceguard and shove Brown in the endzone it's an easy TD because Smith never played the ball and had no idea it was right above his head. Also Kendrick Lewis is largely responsible for the called back INT and return. I do give Smith credit for catching the INT thrown directly to him by been. Smith didn't play well. The Ben simply played worse.

Marlon brown was doomed the second he forced to line up wide. He's played slot all through colleg and her in Baltimore creating nightmarish match for any slot corner. It's not his fault that the Perriman ship crashed but it was known from the jump that he was more of light/fat TE lacking downfield speed. the Ravens have tedency to play guys outside of the realm of effectiveness and then seem surpised that that it doesn't work out.

This the same team that seemed surprised that Urschel would have problems snapping the ball when Zutta went down.

Ravens still need a Pro bowl Corner, #1/2 Wr, help at Safety, RB, Back up OT, Cover LB. I think some trimming needs to be done and move some people around. Look for some solutions at RB, Cover LB, and Safety- Draft/Trade/FA options. KO to LT move is a good one, but now we need a back up OT. Move Webb to Safety as an option, Mosley suffering he may need to get less playing time or get bigger, he cant cover. Look for another Big Back. Get a solid experienced receiver and Corner..look to pay some $. Re-structure Joe- $ get a receiver for him!

Can everyone say Brent Urban, Timmy Jerrnigan, Carl Davis, Brandon Williams and Lawrence Guy! Beasts!. I think that its possible that Ravens could roll out a 4-3 option moving Upshaw, ZaD and Mosely (get bigger) up to DE on the line!

I don't think anyone realizes how major foot surgery really is. I've had foot and ankle surgery before, and I couldn't stand for 6 months. For someone who's job is to be an athlete, I applaud Jimmy being able to come back as fast as he did, and give our thin secondary even a chance to compete. I look forward to seeing him become our shut down CB in 2016!

I know, from first hand experience, that you are spot on, Ravenmastro. I have had two knee surgeries on each knee, one shoulder surgery, and three surgeries on one of my ankles, and that's not counting the non-orthopedic surgeries, which are numerous, and by Far the most painful and difficult ones to recover from were the ankle surgeries. My ankle is totally fused and the only motion I have left in that foot is the ability to wiggle my toes. I, too, applaud what Jimmy has done and have to believe that he was not 100% this season. My ankle's condition is what has relegated me to golf, only, as a sports participant and it has even affected that game to some degree. I doubt that people who have not experienced these things can fully grasp just what these incredible athletes have been able to do in the way of rehabilitation. Kudos to all you guys who have overcome such adversities. I have nothing but respect for their pain tolerance, dedication, determination, and desire. I Know how much they love the game to do what they do, because that's all the motivation I had to rehab so that I could play again. Although, I guess in their case money could be a factor as well.

I can't forget what happened to us in the Super Bowl against the Jets to want to see them get back there. But, I can pretend to forget it just long enough to see them knock the Squealers out of the playoffs. So, my ideal scenario is that the Jets beat the Bills and then go one and done in the playoffs. Best I can do.

#10, and he only slid that far because he ran a terribly slow 40

You're right. But, really, if you're looking for a pure pass rusher, just how important is their 40 time? I have never seen a QB line up 40 yards away from the line of scrimmage. I would think quickness, which IS different than speed, would be more important. Just a thought to ponder.

THIS^^^^

For those fans that want a high draft pick over a win, even a divisional one:  We have a good chance of beating the Bengals now too with McCarron injuring his throwing wrist and Keith Wenning at the helm.  That means that Cincy has to beat us, a top 5 rush defense, on the ground with a rookie QB that our team is very familiar with.

Yes the Bengals can still beat us with their defense.  But if not then the Ravens could drop out of the top 10 altogether.  Personally, I want the division win.  Ozzie will picj a great player at #3 or #13.

Wanting your team to lose for an untested product is loser speak.

I'm sure I read that McCarron's wrist injury was in his left, non throwing, hand. Just wish I could remember where I read it to provide the source. But, you know, if the Bengals Would have to go with Wenning, it sure would put an interesting factor into the game. I read So many peoples' posts on here, when we signed Mallett, that we should have stuck with Wenning and given him his chance that it would be very interesting to see which QB faired better. Of course, the quality of each team's receivers would obviously be a factor, as well as the play of each team's defense. But, it still might be fun to see it happen.
