CB?

49 posts in this topic

With today Jimmy showing to be back into top form and Webb and Wright playing better and Will Davis coming back do we still try to get a CB early or address pass rush or another need

pass rusher, then get one of the safety's in round 3 to replace Kendrick. He's been our biggest burden. Ogbah- Boyd -bell

Or depending on where we end up maybe even treadwell- Yannick - Bell/ Thompson

Artie Burns out of Miami just declared for the draft. Boundary corner who's a little stiff, but for anyone paying attention to the Miami program (I've brought this up many times before), he pretty much received zero coaching, so he's very raw. Is a track guy, so I expect him to run well at the combine. Excellent size for a corner at 6'0'' 195 lbs. Can also play safety if need be. Can get sloppy with his technique, but again, I blame the coaching staff at Miami. I would think rounds 2-3 would be the right range for him. Round 2 if he runs well at the combine.

As far as corners who can cover guys in the slot, Corn Elder, another Miami corner may be an option. He hasn't declared yet, but if he does, I think he will be fantastic in the league. Fast and very fluid. Can return punts and kicks, too.

sounds like a guy who goes way earlier than he should and gets toasted for 4 years and then bounces around practice squads...

Today*

Any other week has been dreadful.

Actually, jimmy wasn't exactly shutting down AB. AB miffed touchdown, Daryl Smith INT from AB. Nope Jimmy want exactly doing much himself. More like team as whole was ruffing up Ben and AB. Didn't help steelers that their other 2 top receivers kept dropping easy balls.

The game was more Steelers undoing. Jimmy anamoly rather than him doing well.

I think it depends more along the lines of which team takes him. He has pro-bowl talent. Just very raw.

CB is one of those positions where you can never have enough good players or depth

I feel that way strongly with pass rushers but I agree, lately that has been the case for us.

OL, CB and pass rushers are the 3 positions where I feel it really applies.

Can't disagree with you. I feel that depth is very important for us this coming off-season.

strong depth is part of why we were such juggernauts from 08 to 2012 culminating in a super bowl. we defined the next man up slogan. 2012 we got hammered by an injury bug and we won a superbowl because our depth was playing as well as our starters.

I'm sorry I just can't get over missing out on Marcus peters last year. I thought for sure he was going to fall to us. He's probably gonna be rookie of the year.

Anyway if vh3 is as advertised I'd absolutely love to have him, I just hope he transitions into the NFL as well as peters has.

while v Peters has made a big impact, it has come at a price, he has given up a lot of touchdowns and deep completions

Ronald Darby has actually been better. He gets no love.

I would take Ramsey/Hargreaves with 1st pick, Fuller in 2nd and Jackson/Burns in 3rd depending on the board.

I agree that Darby has overall been a better CB over Peters

If not Hargreaves, Fuller would be my guy if we trade back into the first or in the early 2nd if another position is selected earlier. I pay attention to VT, and Fuller is a stud. Like Hargreaves, he can cover in the slot or on the outside. VT dbs tend to do well at the next level, too.

I love fuller but he seems very similar to Jimmy as in he's more a press guy, I like the idea of an expert cover guy with great closing speed and explosiveness, we have enough big guys on defense I would like to add an element of explosiveness for once

True. I just think there could be a point where he's the bpa, and I would absolutely pounce on it. But yeah, really good point.

i totally agree but I actually think he goes in the first. If he falls because of his knee I think there is a very strong chance hes our guy in the second, even if we took a db in the first

I would love that scenario. Yeah, I've seen some mocks where they dropped him because of concern for the knee. What really worries me about him not lasting to the early 2nd would be that corners tend to get overdrafted (not saying that word applies to him because he's a stud) because of the high demand and low supply of quality corners. I could see a team in the back end of the 1st who doesn't really have many needs selecting him because of the terrific value.

which is why I see him going in the first lol. That size and his ability to press and fight for the ball is a very valued thing these days. You can't consistently stop any decent qb between the 20s anymore, and those traits make or break games, if you can't stop a good wr in the red zone you wont win many games. I think if the patriots had a first he would be a guaranteed pick there. Right now though I'm thinking bengals, panthers, or skins take him
