[News] Ryan Mallett Takes Command In First Ravens Start

54 posts in this topic

Flacco is still the #1 QB. But Mallett will make an ideal backup. He's a solid qb that can win unlike schaub and clausen. Also, with his talent and similar skill set to Flacco I believe he'll push Joe further in practice unlike schaub which will translate to Flacco playing better on the field. Hopefully Ryan keep his head straight this time. I believe in him after today.

I like Mallet, but I also like "Renner"...the qb who played lights out for us during the pre-season. I heard he was on the practice squad. don't know if he still is or not.

Mallet needs to be signed. He's young and has a lot of talent. To come in and beat Steellers with our backs ups was truly amazing.

He is signed through next season, reportedly.

Bryn Renner was signed by Tennessee last week unfortunately........ But with that said, we have 2 young QBs on our roster that are both proving to be good QBs. I was really impressed with J Clausen, and now after watching Ryan Mallett, I am even more optimistic regarding our back-up QB situation going forward..... Here's to a much better 2016 season !! :)

That was the best performance by a Ravens QB this year, didn't force any throws, ball was on target and a quick release (didn't stand there holding the ball too long)!!!!!!!!! Great job by Ryan Mallet.

I want to apologize to the board. A few weeks ago I made the unfortunate suggestion that Clausen should replace Flacco. I'd like to correct that error...Mallet should replace Flacco. Ryan, thanks for making the wide receivers look as good as they in fact are, which as everyone knows a good quarterback does. Cut "1st option" Joe now.

Mallet and Clausen have made our "no number one" receivers look good in three games between them in spite of only having been with the team for at most four weeks between the two of them. Something Joe has been unable to do in two or more seasons.

Finally a backup QB to push Flacco. Maybe Flacco will play with a sense of urgency and learn to read a defense.

Joe better restructure with a very team friendly deal to help us keep guys like our new left tackle on the team.

Joe has to decide if he cares more about money or winning because he isn't the guy who can carry a team himself and we need more talent to become playoff contenders next year. $28M Cap Hit. No player on this team is worth that.

Mallet's play gives the Ravens some leverage with Flacco's contract situation I hope. I don't think Joe is going to hold the Ravens hostage by asking for more money than the Ravens can reasonably afford to pay him. But, I'm concerned about Linta who has proven to be ruthless in his negotiations and Joe basically allowing him to do all the contract related stuff. Please Joe, be reasonable and restructure your contract with a team friendly deal!

It wasn't the best ravens game but Mallett passes looked better, was thrown better and with great accuracy for most of the game. He had 2nd and 3rd string guys looking like all stars. It's been awhile since I seen us just march with completion after completion, throws landing in prefect spots for receivers like that.

I mentioned in Eisenberg's comment section about whether or not we are looking at a QB controversy next year if Mallett continues to produce. Of course, the early answer to that is to laugh, but as we get closer, if Joe starts throwing a bunch of int's again and can't seem to get on board with his receivers after coming back when Mallett will have been throwing to them all off season, most of pre-season and depending on the healing process, the first couple games of the season. We know the on field stuff we see on the camera but what is interesting is what Aiken said. "He was our leader there in the huddle. He talked throughout the whole game to make sure guys were upbeat, and he led the whole way today." How many times have we heard comments that beat up Joe for not having emotion when Mallett is the anti-Joe showing every emotion on his sleeves. Will fans be drawn to Mallett because of wanting that fiery qb for so long. I am not saying anything will or will not happen but I have seen the comments and I can guess what will be coming.  I have already seen the comments in here and to give that much credit to Mallett and to place those expectations on a guy you have seen for one game just fuels my argument.  After this season people are ripe for a qb controversy but remember, there is a reason this guy is here and just wait for his first pouting spree.

Mallett did a good job. Not great but he did good.

However, for his first game out, he did excellent and looks to get better with more reps. Joe better watch his back!

All that keeps ringing in my ears is that we're told it takes time to build chemistry with your receivers when Joe is throwing the ball and that wasn't even mentioned once last night with Mallett behind center. Looks to me like it takes about 10 days to get with your receivers. Hmmmm..... This off season will be interesting!

I'm not ready to jump on the "new #1 QB" bandwagon yet, but Mallet was throwing bullets yesterday! Glad to hear he was pumping everybody up in the huddle, rather than just maintaining calm like Joe usually does. We needed some fire to melt the Steelers.

Wow Buddy, First you cut the QB that has had us in the playoffs more than any before and won a SB, for a backup that just had 2 blowout losses. Now you cut him for a QB that just had his 1st career high game. Who do you think we are?? Cleveland??!! If that's what you want go cheer for the Browns. They'll agree with that thinking 100%! Smh
