Sunday QB

Please Keep WR Chris Matthews

64 posts in this topic

Depends if he's willing to be lower on the depth chart versus trying his luck somewhere else:

1) SSS (Good feeling he's coming back)

2) Aiken (Good Feeling he's an off-season priority)

3) Perriman

Beyond that and how we re-sign players, its a madhouse (No Particular Order):

1) Camp

2) Waller

3) Givens

4) Matthews

5) D. Brown

6) M. Brown (Unlikely)

7) Draft Picks

Don't forget about WR Clay #81 returner he sure has a shot to stay on the roster just for his return abilities alone. I also believe next season its going to be an open competition for the WR position I could be wrong but I really think enough guys have shown flashes to get their chance to compete. J.M.H.O.

I forgot about Perriman,

So lets go with

Aikmen

Perriman

Matthews

Butler

Brown

Waller

Campanaro

and if Steve Smith Sr. decides to come back.

It's nice to have a big guy that can actually go up and high point the ball.  He definitely has his liabilities, but he definitely looks to be a potentially capable red zone threat.  He's absolutely worth keeping around to compete for a roster spot next season.

Butler is playing lights out. He is the current #2 receiver for the Ravens. You forgot about him.

Clay is probably the odd man out when Camp comes back. Waller will be cut.

SSSr - wild card

2) Aiken

3) Perrriman

4) Butler

5) Campernaro

6) Matthews

7) Draft pick - if no pick, Givens

Matthews has earned the spot with his ST play alone. Being a good end zone target is pretty neat bonus, too.

This what i came in here to talk about.  When i seen him get down the field on that punt and basicaly make a one arm tackle...i said he's staying.  He is 6'5 220, didnt find much else out about him, no combine info.  I think he is basically a more polished version of Waller, who i love.  No reason to really think that, havent seen enough of either, just a complete guess honestly.

And maybe a free Agent signing.

We will for sure sign a WR. I expect a cheap veteran; Nate washington or Roddy White.  Im still crossing my fingers for Pierre Garcon or Vjax.

I like him as a ST player. He's decent as a WR. He'll need to step up at WR but he's good as a reserve and ST player. He could make Albert McClellan expendable.

Camp might be done...How many more chances is he going to get before the Ravens have to move on?

If he gets injuried again I think he's gone.

Keep in mind his injury wasn't even IR worthy.

He would be playing still if our roster weren't in shambles.

That is true! The put him on the IR and saved a spot for Perriman. Camp could've had a good 6-700 yard season with maybe 7-10 TDs

That tackle Chris Matthews made yesterday was absolutely beautiful. One arm. I wanted us to lose yesterday but damn if I didn't jump up after that

SSS

Perriman

Aiken

Camp

Butler

Mathews

Clay

D brown will likely stay on the practice squad unless he can beat out butler or camp which I doubt. Bye bye to Marlon and givens. If SSS doesn't return we will sign a veteran FA or cap casualty and might do it either way. If so then butler may get bumped. Not sure what to do about Waller- he will have to show some progression if he wants to be kept - were not going to keep him just bc he was a draft pick. We will also take a receiver somewhere in the first 4 rounds.. So it will be interesting to see how things shake out. SSS is the wildcard and will dictate a lot of what happens going forward.

Would take any of those receivers 2 yrs ago.lol I'm all for getting Campanaro on a offseason regimen to avoid injury. Then drafting 2 receivers within rounds 1-4. Or drafting a receiver early and trading for another receiver. Not a good selection in free agency or the potential castaways. Of course it would be nice to get something from pro day perriman. But it remains to be seen that he doesn't have knee problems.

I dunno, we'll see. I still say Garcon gets cut and thats who we should target. A inexpensive guy on a 2 year deal trying to prove himself again.

Matthews will be in the mix, along with Waller. Well prob keep one and cut, ps the other. Camp is gone, along with MamaBrown. If Perriman cant get on the field or produce a 1000 yd season itll go down as one of the worst draft picks in Ravens history. BUT for the sake of argument lets say he performs.

Perriman and Sr are both locks, provided he comes back. In any case I wouldnt put any stock or let Sr coming back adjust anything I want to do as a FO. Hes a luxury at this point. So.... Go get Garcon. I think Givens is a lock also.

Im looking at it like:

Perriman

Garcon

Givens

Aiken

Than Matthews, Waller, Butler, DBrown and a 3rd rd draft pick all get to fight for the final spots. And IF Sr does come back that drops someone onto the PS or cut, like in the final cutdown. Cant play around with BS this year. No more favorites or give the guy a chance. Perform or go away.

Camp will be cut before Waller, Camp has shown that he can't stay healthy, it doesn't matter how good you are if you are literally never on the field. Waller at least has potential with his size and speed combination, also he was just drafted, and higher drafted than Camp.

1) Smith Sr - I doubt he'll retire on a season ending injury, that's just not who he is

2) Perriman - obviously we aren't going to get rid of a 1st rounder

3) Aiken - Has shown the development we needed to see, I'd like to see more from him with a starter quality receiver opposite him (with SSS healthy early in the season he didn't do much)

4) Butler - Good hands and obviously practices hard, since being called up to the active roster he's been solid

5) Matthews - Great size and good on ST

6) Waller - He was just drafted and has great potential

7) Rookie

If SSS does retire, which I doubt he will, then throw in another FA acquisition.

Camp can't be relied upon to stay healthy, injury after injury and we can't reserve a roster spot anymore for someone who can't stay healthy to save their life.

Givens, unfortunately because I had high hopes for him, hasn't provided anywhere near enough outside of deep ability.

Clay will stick around, I won't list him as a receiver because he is only a return specialist.

Interesting points. Do not want Garcon now. He isn't any better than Aiken at this point in his career and he will be 3 years removed from his one big year. He will be 30-31 yrs old and not that kinda receiver that can lose a step or so and still be very good. Ravens need to find the next breakout receiver star that has underperformed thus far either in free agency or a trade. And nobody can assume Perriman will perform just because he was a round1 draft pick. If Campanaro could work an offseason program to avoid injury he has more raw skill than Givens,Garcon or Butler. Campanaro I agree needs to play the entire season or else. However he is a more explosive Edelman with more outside athleticism, body control and ball skills. he is explosive and runs fast crafty routes and adjusts to throws and highpoints quite well. It would not surprise me to see him outplay perriman. Would not be the first time a ravens round1 receiver is outplayed by a late round dude. Just look at Travis snailor Taylor and Stokley. I like Campanaro better than Givens(one speed player) Butler Waller or Aiken. And SS as well considering SS is 37 and coming off an Achilles. Just needs to play every game. He was really standing out and making dbacks look bad before being injured. It is better the ravens find the next SS or Vincent Jackson than the country declining receivers. I like Boyd or Thomas in round2 or late round1 and trade a mid to late round pick for talented receiver yet to breakout like Marqise Lee who has had some very nice athletic catches the last couple games. Ravens need to identify these receivers before a breakout. Once a receiver established himself he becomes to expensive to sign or trade for.

No, because he was a first round pick.

That's what I thought. But Being a round1 pick does not increase his skills or his knee mending.
