Ryan Mallett is the most confident QB that has ever lined up for the Ravens!

But regular season Flacco doesn't automatically guarantee a playoff berth...

Hopefully Ryan will provide Joe with some much needed competition at the position.

If we didn't want Peyton Manning because we already had Flacco, do you really think Ryan Mallet is going to spark some QB controversy? Sheesh...

Joe's lack of skill in the regular season makes it hard to defend him. He's TERRIBLY pedestrian so often and he was a turn over machine for much of this season. I can't defend him without talking about his playoff performances of the past.

And that's a shame.

Mallet reminds me of Trent Differ  Remember Billick took out Tony Banks and Differ in and he took Ravens all the way to the super bowl. Mallet is now 1-0 as Ravens starter. If Mallet wins in Cincy then he's 2-0 that means Harbaugh has to Bench Flacco next year opening day and start Mallet and remind he's 2-0 as Ravens starter and keep him in until he loses one. He might become a star in Baltimore.

You do realize ... in this scenario, you are not only comparing Dilfer to Mallett, but you are putting Flacco in Tony Banks' place.

Somehow, I am having difficulty equating those two.

The people who are clamoring for Mallett to start after one game are the same people who called Marlon Brown "Marlontron."

lol! The first I heard of Marlontron!! It should now be Marlongone!

Isn't every thread a Flacco thread?

Yes.  There are some that troll every thread to try turn it into a Flacco thread.  Same old regurgitated crap. lol

I can't tell if your advocating for mallet to start over Joe or not. You want confidence? Joe will go into next season knowing who is the qb... As will everyone else, then I is no competition and rightfully so

Joe Flacco = Eli Manning. Gotta take the good with the bad. Eli might be a tad better.

Hopefully our Odell Beckham is on his way.....

Yes I know that. But Flacco has not been doing his job since winning that suoerbowl. I think the money has something do with it. I say Biscotti gives him half than he's worth. If Flacco's agent dent like that he can take his show else where.

Sounds legit. Did you enjoy our success last year?

I'm particularly mad at him for giving up two 14 point leads in New England

It was ridiculous. The way he stood there with the deer in headlights look, not being a leader, not being able to carry the team...why do we pay this guy?

I see Joe is still being disrespected. Ahh

Mallet played great....Will forever be a cherished memory for us....Why can't that just be enough for some people? Instead it's ridiculous assertions & scenarios while comparing him to the face of the franchise who has dealt with far worse & has had far greater success. It's not fair to both of them. Short memories.

Aye. This thread has to have the highest percentage of rookie posters in quite some time...

Absolutely! Two 14 point leads and he has the gall to sit on the bench and watch the leads vanish? How dare he?

He should have been out on that field defending our lead.

I wouldnt even go so far as to say he played great.  270 yards and a TD with 0 turn overs is a fine outing, but some people on here are acting like he had a 400+ yard 5+ TD game.  It's one game....Pretty sure Joe has won more playoff games than Mallet has won regular season games.

I agree, it could be that compared to Schaub and Clausen he looks like an All-Pro and that's everyone's most recent memory.

Yea I agree, the majority and all rational fans take the performance and its implications for what they are. At least the overreactions made for some 'fun' debate here, we never talk about Flacco here so it's a breath of fresh air.

I have some specifics on pressure for Mallett on Sunday in my article here:

http://russellstreetreport.com/2015/12/30/filmstudy/steelers-did-little-to-test-ryan-mallett/

The 2 biggest points are that he had Ample Time and Space (ATS) on 25 of 42 dropbacks (60%) and the Steelers rushed 5 only 7 times (never more).  They were effectively content that he couldn't beat them from the pocket.

Just in terms of yardage, Mallett's performance was consistent with his opportunity set.

However, that was just the 3rd game all season the Ravens have gone without an interception.

Interesting analysis, I'm sure the Bengals will pick up on that and I'd imagine they try to put him to the test now that they know what he can do with a clean pocket.

With that said, I'm curious about your ATS threshold - is it the standard three seconds? And where does that 60% rank compared to other QBs (or rather, their OL)?

Mallet in his presser this afternoon to a question about how he would combat a Bengals defense because they've troubled Joe consistently was "My name is not Joe". Now take it like you want, but I personally didn't like that response from a character perspective. Now, I'm frankly fearful about how good a team mate he'll be in the QB room. Just saying what I think right now. Some people could say that was a very confident reply and apt response, but somehow it didn't sit well with me.

Sounds as though he may be the "anti Joe", lack of humility.
