Ryan Mallett is the most confident QB that has ever lined up for the Ravens!

Mallet played well, and yes he had a lot of poise and confidence. He's definitely the best backup QB the Ravens have used this year.

Getting a bit carried away here, playoff Flacco has Mallett beat big time

Im not saying Mallett is better than Flacco, but the fact that you had to say "playoff Flacco" instead of just Flacco is saying something.

Erratic? The guy completed 68.3% of his passes. Again he's been here for 12 days.

So, he completes a high number of passes and that means he didn't have iffy accuracy?

And trust me when I say 12 days doesn't affect accuracy

not really, I was just emphasizing how much more poised in the playoffs. The guy didn't get the nickname "Joe Cool" for nuthin, he's not slouch in the regular season confidence wise, though it's far from impossible to rattle him.

I'm very conscious of the New QB Effect - backups often look good in their first few games in a system until there's enough film of them that opposing coaches can start to get a better idea of what to expect - but Mallet's game was certainly very encouraging today. If he can keep this up we'll be in a better position if Joe misses any time next year.

That's exactly what that means. Was every throw perfect? Of course not, but they were accurate enough.

Joe has iffy accuracy. I bet you never bring that up though.

He made some good passes, but he left many first downs and yards of YAC on the throw due to poor throws.

For example, two times Juice caught check down passes that took nose dives near the ground, but Juice caught them while going to the ground. With a good pass, he gets a first down and potentially 5-10 yards of YAC. The box score shows he completed two passes for like 10 yards, but fails to show they were nearly off the ground, didn't go for first downs, and did not show that they could have gone for 25-30 yards.

Stats tell the story you want them to, but the game film will not lie

Comparing Mallet to Flacco is pretty silly. Especially based on the sample size for Mallet.

Mallet is good trade bait and could start for an NFL team. Either that or he's Joe's back-up. End of story.

I'm happy he's on the team, but there was zero pressure on him.  Zero.  Okay, maybe the pressure to prove he can play, but no playoff seeding implications, no win or go home playoff pressure.  None.  Have to take that into account.

Let's not turn this into a Flacco thread. Let's just enjoy the performance from Mallett, okay?

I second that...  It's a good day.  Why can't we just leave it at that?

I don't know what team would want to trade for him after seeing his failed stint in Houston. I'd rather just have him as a viable backup

He played well enough to win. Wasn't anything special, but I do appreciate that he did well enough

Thats true, but Flacco also makes a ton of stupid decisions. If he would go to the check down receiver like Mallett did today instead of trying for the big play all the time he would throw less interceptions.

We finally capitalized on turnovers and didn't give them any back, I hope Joe was watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ryan Mallett looked great today. He looked like he might even have franchise potential if he gets himself sorted out for good. Not for us, of course, but hey. The dude can ball.

Mallett played well...how come it can't be left at that?  Smh!

I guarantee you the front office and coaches are thinking about more than just today. Why can't that be discussed?

I like the signing... But calm down Tiger. We do have a qb on the roster who has set numerous records in the post season.... There's a reason why mallet hadn't been a starter...

I would be curious to see how well the Ravens offense would have done without the ridiculous penalties stopping or continuing drives/Steelers drives

He played better than Joe against the Steelers this season.

Flacco - 20-33, 60.6 completion %, 189 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT 73.9 rating

Mallett - 28-41, 68.3 completion %, 274 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 95.0 rating

Flacco also got stripped from behind while being loose with the ball. Oh, and roethlisberger was out.

Agreed. Only here for 12 days and he did pretty well.

Will feel better about him being our back-up (and if we need that back-up QB) after his performance today.

I don't remember a Ravens QB hitting a receiver in full stride for more than a decade (More than 15 yards anyway). A thing of beauty we should try that more often.

Yep and all the same folks who cry about overthrows & underthrows from Flacco of which Mallet has quite a few today, but he's awesome lol

I would say all 13 over his in completions were an under or overthrow, or close to it

It's funny what a team win does to people.....  Defense kept 84 at bay all day long.  They covered 10 up, and intercepted 7 Three times...

And that's not counting the 101 yd. Pick 6.

Offense moved the ball well downfield and was able to score....  Was Mallet the QB?  Yes....

Time to move on, and just enjoy the win.
