Ryan Mallett is the most confident QB that has ever lined up for the Ravens!

That's a defense that has give our team fits for the past 7 8 years. Just like one game didNT mean mallet would be a starter, this one game doesn't mean he won't be a good back up.

I'd be happy to have him, but his attitude is concerning when things don't go well.

Mallet showed his colors and why he has been avoided by everyone, but I think he is the choice at backup for next year.

Statistically he didn't light it up, but for only being here for 12 days he played very well against Pittsburgh. Today he definitely struggled.

When he played Pitt he had nothing to lose.  They drastically scaled down the playbook im sure

Every coaches days are numbered....but i bet Johns number is pretty damn high.  Commend you on the record guess, but i dont think you would of been right if we hadnt had al those tenure.

He played about as well as Joe has against the Bengals.

I can't believe how much fans overreacted to his comment. I guess they thought he was taking a shot at the golden boy.

No he didn't. Not even close. Joe had a 92 QB rating, over 300 yds and 2 TDs to 1 INT.

Joe's typical games against the Bengals are not very good.

If we're talking about just this season the Mallett outplayed Joe against the Steelers.

Fair enough, Joe also out played Mallet in the 100+ other games, but whose counting

Joe's issues with the Bengals are overblown. In 2010, they gave him fits. Both games. In 2011, he posted a 105 QB rating in Game 1 and a 112 QB rating in game 2. In 2012, we blew them out in the opener and Joe played 4 snaps in the 2nd game. It is funny that people only remember those "issues" from 2010 and forget about the success he had versus them since..

In 2013 the offense was garbage versus everyone. In 2014, they gave him fits again. Division opponents are always tougher - then know each other.

If we're going to overall though, we've beaten the Steelers 8 of the last 11 - and Joe has no issues in their House. Not a good example when Mallet's performance of 270 odd yards and 1 TD isn't all that to begin with.

Mallet is Mallet and his attitude issues showed today. My main issue with his performance today.

Joe's 100+ other games has nothing to do with the discussion. Nice try though

When you want to compare yes they do. Otherwise, just say you think Mallet will be a good back-up and leave it at that.

If your going to use a game thats in the past then you cant discount Joes past. Mallet played one decent game...if thats enough for you to be sold...more power to you.  But ill take the guy whose won more games than mallet will ever even play in...

Not sure why the Mallett fan club is so bothered. Mallett had like 3 dropped picks today.

But that's fine, because he's a BACKUP. His physical talent is intriguing enough for me to want to keep him over the likes of Schaub and Clausen. But start suggesting he should be a starter after two games (neither of which were amazing) will result in deserved pushback and mocking.

No, I don't wonder about it. But to me there are more that are googoo gaga over Flacco than there are that incessantly bash him. I get put into the incessantly bashing or "hater" category more often than not because I'm not head over heels in love with Flacco. I respect and get what he is, an above average starting NFL QB. But he is not the messiah to me or a top 3 or 5 talent. There are extremists on both sides, I can certainly agree there.

I dont see anyone saying that.  I am a huge joe supporter but woud never call him elite, i do think hes a top ten qb though

And if Joe threw 3 dropped picks (which he has) nothing would be said by the apologists. It would be the receivers fault, or they would blame a blade of grass before they blamed Joe.

Anyone that is suggesting he should be the starter is obviously trolling. He's a solid backup that can give us a chance to win if Joe is out. Something that neither Schaub or Clausen could do IMO.

The problem with that comparison is that we've seen the bad with Joe, but we've also seen the good.

Mallett has had TWO GAMES and we have folks wanting him in the Ring of Honor. The hyperbole is insane.

In the presser this week when Mallet was asked by Luke Jones:

On how the Bengals have statistically given QB Joe Flacco trouble in the past: Mallett replied: “Well, my name is not Joe."

That comment didn't sit to well with me. I thought to myself at the time, well he is a tad bit full of himself.  Cockiness can only take ya so far. lol

Mallett meet humble!

again. What did he say wrong? He was asked why Joe sucks against the Bengals, how should Mallett know? He's been here for like two weeks he probably hasn't even met Joe. Plus the questions not even remotely about him. He litterly had no good possible answer. Edited by Cillmatic

Its not like really left earth with is monsterous 270 yard 1 td game...

What I meant by that was how a lot of the fans on these boards were talking like he was the total answer. Mallet played really good last week and OK today but going forward I like him as the back-up to Flacco I need to edit that post now..

I was technically agreeing with you.  Just how everyone was saying how great he played and beat the steelers, but he didnt exactly do anything special.  Bigger arm Alex Smith maybe?

It does not matter Joe Flacco is our QB and when the guys give him time he can beat any team in the NFL at any time. Mallet is going to be a good back-up QB for Joe and the person who started this just must have forgot Joe throws the ball on any DB in the league Remember Revis Island and how Joe hit SSS a couple times and got a PI against Revis Joe can throw any ball period and is very confident when throwing it too.

I think it was beating the Steelers that got everyone so hyped up but I have to admit I am pretty hyped up about him being Joes back-up I think he will grow with the Ravens and even be better next year after spending time with the fellas in the off season. I actually like the Mallet option better than Schaub or Clausen option.

Yeah it was a loaded question. I don't have any issue with his response. I highly doubt Mallett meant anything by it.

Nah, Alex Smith takes much better care of the football than Mallett.

Miserable game to be at, a hopeless offense and it felt that way too, you could see Mallet was rattled. When he couldn't complete the WR screen to Butler in the face of an all out blitz that's when it became evident we weren't scoring any significant points with our offense today. Butler showed great field vision on that YAC too.

He didn't take any chances downfield and when he did he was horribly off, our receivers don't really get open and dropped passes you have to catch in a close game. Max Williams played well but even he had some big drops that we're gonna have to have if we want to win the division next year.

People are mad that a backup QB didn't beat the bengals...

It's not really that, it's the insinuation that was made by some that he should be our starter going forward and that he offers the same production and capabilities as Flacco, which is a sick joke that is not surprising given some here but still infuriating and embarrassing.

And yes, I'm mad he didn't beat the Bengals realistic expectations aside, try living here, I know our fanbase cares more about the Steeler games but I think our litmus test to see if our team has returned to its previous high level will be beating the Bengals again.

The Flacco vs Mallett talk was 90% nothing, people are just tired of average Regular season Flacco, not seeing the QB mess up and throw a pick was a rarity this season and Flacco certainly didn't help that. And lol at you being upset that our team which is 90% backup and practice squad lost to one of the best teams in the league; we can only dream. Maybe next year my brother. Edited by Cillmatic

Yeah...we had very little team by year's end.  We will get better strictly upon better luck against injuries.

Still, we have a very long way to go. Still can't believe we beat the Steelers in that second game.  That was probably our best game of the year.  Wish we hadn't beat them cuz they got in anyway and we lost 2-3 positions in the draft.

Sweeping and embarking the steelers with a team of benchwarmers was 100% worth it. We're picking at 6 anyway. I'm fine with it. Everyone we'll want(if KO returns) will still be there.

Take the win against pburgh for what it is and don't wish we lost....... It was a HUGE lesson in teamwork that should carry forward with all that are on the squad next year.

I don't wish we lost Tank.

I view this year as an anomaly and a chance to finally draft high. Now the pressure is really on!  We must win at this draft.

There PLENTY on this board who think he's a top 5 guy...and some who say only Rodgers and Brady are better, meaning top 3. Whatever, doesn't really matter and isn't the topic here, so sorry for the derailment.

Mallet is a quality backup. Nothing more.
