Ryan Mallett is the most confident QB that has ever lined up for the Ravens!

lol........ QB discussions on these boards are just too funny at times.

Regardless of better production and stats, even the most casual observer could see that Manning has had the more dynamic and talented group of receivers over the course of his career. He also had the same OC for 7 years and the present guy has been there for the past 2.

Not saying one is better than the other as that can be totally subjective and a personal preference, but if you are going to compare the two you have to look at the situations they have been in and how that could affect their stats/performance. Just looking at stability/familiarity of systems and talent level of the receivers(OL and running game are factors as well), one would have to say without doubt that Manning has been in the more favorable situation.

As a Ravens and Joe Flacco fan, it's fun to imagine what could be with some stability at OC and consistent dynamic talent at WR.

Did Eli ever have the 4 names being tossed around at the same time with big production? I'm not saying Eli hadn't had better receivers, its just not as far off as some are saying or trying to say to make Eli appear to have had massive help where Flacco hasn't had any. I get the motive behind it by some; protect and elevate Flacco at all costs ;)

Ok.

Didn't sit well with me either. There's a reason why this guy has been shopped around so much. Maturity. He's got the talent, but doesn't have the cache to appear to be arrogant, yet.
I wish the best for him and generally like confidence in a player, but speak with your play 'only' until you learn humility and discretion. If he did that more the rest of the league will respect his play more. Just saying...a little more discretion could eventually get him alot more salary as he continues to earn franchise QB-like respect in the league.

I see Joe is still being disrespected. Ahh

Mallet played great....Will forever be a cherished memory for us....Why can't that just be enough for some people? Instead it's ridiculous assertions & scenarios while comparing him to the face of the franchise who has dealt with far worse & has had far greater success. It's not fair to both of them. Short memories & ignorance.

short memory is important for football B)

I figure it's time to re-enter the thread I started....Actually, I never gave Mallet the stat nod, longevity nod, tangible skill nod, nor the accomplishment nod over any Ravens QB in our history.

I am simply saying Mallet has an intangible I have yet to see from any other QB that has lined up for the Ravens. His body language and movement screamed command/leadership. Whole game I felt Mallet could win cause he had that Tom Brady laser focus...just that fire look that is unbreakable because football is his identity.

have you seen a couple of the posts the last 2 pages, 1 by Polynesia or something along them lines and the other about the boy saying mallet can run better?

Do you honestly wonder why people go over their top in his defense? Why not quote those posts and defend flacco when someone posts ridiculous criticism like that?

The same opposite reason I don't criticise posters who over defend him....

It was already hilarious.

Mallet not only looked like Mallet - he acted like Mallet. Spoiled brat.

He was very shaky today - in reality he should have had 0 TDs since that last was the Bengals taking their foot off the gas to burn clock and 3 picks counting the one that was dropped.  It is just his second start this year though, and against the best passing defense in the NFL.  He will be a nice backup option next year, although I'd be more happy if we could move him for a pick this offseason since I expect Flacco to start all 16 next year.

I still like Mallet but today he just brought some of the Raven fans  back down to earth and I am still very happy he will be backing up Flacco next year He had a great game last week and just an OK game today against the Bengals..

I don't still like him after today really but back-ups are back-ups for reasons I guess.

So the question is, do you keep Mallet or Clausen around as the backup next year? I think I'd stick with Clausen.

Biggest thing for me was how he was so quick to throw his hands up and project anything that was a disconnect between himself and a receiver onto the receiver.

Simply put it's not a quality leadership trait and it came to light when things didn't go his way.  Dropped pass, miss blitz hot route, disconnect on route depth etc.  Flack will do this little weird point route work thing with his finger on one hand, but will never throw up two hands on a receiver, the ol "what are you doing"

I'd stick with the guy that's actually under contract for next year and showed more promise: Mallett.

He just had a tough day I still like him because I think he deserves a real chance and I think he will be even better after training with the team through out the off-season and working with them to get to know them better and that goes both ways the team gets to know him better too not to mention he has a strong arm like Flacco too.

You know what I find really funny? His potential response to the question about having faced a defense that gave Joe problems. He said his name isn't Joe. Well, he played pretty bad.

He played about as well as Joe has against the Bengals.

I can't believe how much fans overreacted to his comment. I guess they thought he was taking a shot at the golden boy.

You sound salty. Are you? I just find it funny. I personally didn't like the comment but even said I wouldn't take it as a shot at Joe. Whether you love Joe or not, you must admit it's funny how he said his name wasn't Joe but he looked bad against them regardless.

They're just well coached on defense.

Not salty at all.

I thought it was a dumb question to ask Mallett, but I do agree it is a little funny that he played just like him against Cincy.

I just thought it was funny how some fans got all upset over his comments that's all.

His performance today will quash any potential that may (or may not) have existed for us to use him in a trade. No one will be looking to bring him in to start and that's the only way you get any significant value in a trade involving a QB. It was a long shot anyway. He'd have had to look just brilliant today for that to come to pass.

As it stands, I don't know that he did anything today to call him into question for the back-up job. Hopefully Joe will not miss any games or - only a handful if he does. Mallett can be stop-gap, but don't expect that he'll ever be the leader of this offense.

I think Flacco would have put up more points though but that's just me. Mallet played well early on but  after that he went down hill .

lol It never really began except in the fantasy of others' minds.

Statistically he didn't light it up, but for only being here for 12 days he played very well against Pittsburgh. Today he definitely struggled.
