[News] Late For Work 12/22: Steve Smith Sr. Calls Out Report Saying He Won't Retire

43 posts in this topic

Its sad to see that we have some fair weather fans on all sorts of social media. At the end of the day we had a horrible year. Its hard to place blame on one person. Some of the defensive and offense schemes are questionable, but at the end of the day why don't you try baking a cake without the eggs, milk and powder(stole this analogy from someone lol). It just doesn't work. The lack of offensive talent(due to injuries) causes our defense to stay on the field. When the defense stays on the field, they are bound to give up points. If there's any concern its really the defense. I put no blame on the offense at all because of the injuries. Our defense hasn't had many outside of Suggs, but hes the leader so that has more of an impact than ppl think. At the end of the day if any team in the league lost the quality, not the number, but the quality of players that we did im sure they would have only won 4 games as well. The fight we put in every week is remarkable. The last two weeks have been tough but those two teams are quality playoff teams on a roll so cant really be to upset. Im looking forward to next year, if we can stay healthy we'll be back in the running. Just stop jumping on and off the wagon and stay true to your team.

If the Ravens wore "gold" pants the look might have been good. The color they wore was a mustard like color that did not look good. You would think Nike and the NFL could design better colors

I vote we get some purple pants to go with our somewhat boring away jerseys, black pants with white tops is okay but gotta mix some more purple in there... Maybe bring back the purple pants with the black tops too although I like the all black look

A fair weather fan is one who sees no wrong even when there is wrong. You don't win by not knowing where your weakness' are and fixing them.

Jenson was one of those "just needed a chance" guys. Watching Yanda developing a similar mental game, then getting enough reps to refine it. Need a couple more like this on the roster. Retain D Smith as a coach!

Well, realistically, a fair weather fan is one who basks in the glow of our successes when things are going great, and pretends like the sky is falling and we will never win again when we are losing.

Amplifying every weakness as if the weaknesses can't be fixed and we will never win again doesn't solve anything.

I'm crossing my fingers that Jalen Ramsey isn't a bust and doesn't turn out to be just another average player. It's been too long since we've drafted a player that's legitimately one of the top 5 players at their position. We need to draft a superstar or two and we'e in perfect position to do that.

Couple of quick thoughts 1. Steve Smith's age and his injuries this season may go hand in hand and Smith may sense that and choose to maintain his retirement plans. 2. 3 million to

Schaub and we wonder why we have cap issues. 3. Picking in the 3rd slot means that we can use the comp picks we will get to move up in the draft and get two number one picks at 3 and then again towards 20 to 25. Since comp picks can be used this coming year for trades, that really helps the Ravens especially in a draft they desperately need it. I am trying to think of a free agent we will lose this year that will result in a comp pick other than Osemele who may stay.

Uh, no. A fair weather fan is someone who only supports the team when they are winning. What you are referring to describes more of a fan who wears rose colored glasses. Or as people around here like to say, purple colored glasses.

1. I believe the comp picks aren't trade-able until 2017 draft.

2. Those comp picks certainly won't be enough to move back into the first round. That would likely require multiple second round picks or potentially even a first, particularly if you're moving into the 20-25 range. If you were to move from like 35 to 30, then yes, maybe a third or fourth rounder would do. But moving up 10-15 spots from second round to first round would cost more than just a couple mid-round picks.

For example, in 2010, the Patriots gave us their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to move up to 25 to draft Tebow. The second round pick was 43rd overall.

So if the scenario you laid out played out, the earliest comp picks would be in the 4th round, so we would probably have to swap out our 2nd and 3rd round pick at least to move into the top 30 to pick again in the first round. May or may not be worth it, but we wouldn't have any day 2 picks in this scenario.

Me personally, I think the quantity of draft picks, and in particular, the ability to pick early in each round gives us an advantage we should use. We aren't just like one or two good players away from being great again in my eyes, so I'm not sure if we should be trading several picks (potentially 3rd or 4th rounders, where we typically do well) for a single player, particularly if that player isn't like a top 10-15 type player. There's not a huge difference between guys in the 25 range and the 35 range from what I've seen in recent years.

The only trade possibilities I'd want to see early in the draft is if we decide to trade back out of a top 5 selection and pick up another mid-range 1st rounder this year or next.

Picking at #3, if we get somebody desperate enough for a big name WR or QB, we've got the ability to pick up multiple first rounders this year or in the future. That's something I'd strongly consider.

My favorite has always been the "All Black" uniforms Which in fact we will be wearing against the Steelers. They just look like "Bad Boy Football". Wish they could be our primary uni's.

It takes a ton of lower picks to trade your way up the first round draft board. Search around, I'm sure there are examples of pick value online. It may surprise you to see what it takes to move up only a few spots. That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see Ozzie trade down a few spots if he doesn't see value at 3. He could move down to say the 8th pick and gain a second and third round pick in the process.

I completely agree with the all-black uniforms, but please, never, ever refer to anything as awesome as our all-black uni's to remotely anything to do with a Kardasian, lol, I'd like to think more along the lines of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood bad :)

One question I have to anyone that can answer, why and how does Jimmy Clausen rate so low on the PFF grading? I really don't know much about how this is done, but what I was watching in Clausen Sunday was fairly successful overall..... Just wondering how he rates at the bottom........

I thought Denver drafted Tebow? Josh McDaniel was the head coach right? Tebow only ended up on New England his last year.

I agree with you..... While I actually learned to like the "mustard-yellow" pants on Sunday, a more muted actual gold color would be so much better. And I also agree that Nike uniforms are not as good as the Reebok uni's were for almost every team, but just my opinion ......

I'm a fair weather fan and proud of it. Get somebody competent to run the team. Kelechi could walk and Ozzie has now much tied up into scrub backup qbs??

IMO I only like the all blakcs when were playing at night or at a 4:25 game... These last few years we used them on terrible teams... Falcons browns and panthers at the time... Completely ruined the idea... Now I remember on thanksgiving night against the steelers in all black lol yup... Were they tough yup... Did we win yup... Steelers nope

thumbs down on that fan design. The all black looks ok, but way to much white in those other ones. Plus: there's supposed to be a THIRD Pant color, we already got black and white covered.

Steves got some soul searching to do. Hey if they install some of them jerseys in the rotation that might be extra incentive for him to come back. I'd wanna wear them suckers too, they look tight ! You would think the professionals who actually came up with those gold pants could actually get creative and come up with somethin like these people did. What do they just get lazy and slap some gold on any random design and think it will look good ? When players look good...they feel good..and in turn they play good!

Get ready to let em fly because I'll be glad when we shelve the gold pants and John Harbaugh!

The first part is based on on glance last Sunday,... the second is a long standing feeling ever since the "purge" after the SB win!

Don't bother to "straighten me out" on the Purge and all,... I'm old, set in my ways! lol

Plus, this Sunday will mark the first time I probably duck out on a Raven-Squealer game to do something outside! It's not going to be competitive and may be the perfect time, weather to visit my cousin in the Northern Neck of VA and bring back some fresh oysters and peach moonshine!  :oldwiseman:

A 'Meh' season does that, even to one who bleeds purple!  :sofa:

The only thing I know is this. Status Quo in terms of coaching or front office is a bad idea. There needs to be some strategic changes in the way we are set up, all the way from the draft to game days. I know Ozzie and Harbs are going nowhere, but how about the scouting department where we've lost some really talented people to poachers. Or how about our assistant coaches especially the secondary coaching which has a lot left to be desired? Or even the coordinators? There needs to be a shake up of some kind to jolt us back into our winning ways. Our drafting needs to focus on great offensive and defensive players, not special teamers who can play some defense or offense. We need to recruit talent big time. We have an opportunity to do just that. I only hope Eric and gang do a great job this year.

I would love to get Ramsey or a big fast receiver. I think tackle can wait. Cutting Monroe would create too much dead money which we have far too much experience with... Monroe is very good when he is healthy and I feel like this season was a fluke for him with injuries. Jensen or Urschel can both play guard if we lose KO. But no promises on SSS coming back so we need to plan to pair a young receiver with Perriman (yes i am not losing hope on him... The Kid can catch and fly) or pair a young outside corner with Jimmy and use Webby in the slot where he plays well or even back at Safety... Receiver or Corner is my pick unless Bosa is available

i mean we only scored 6 points, jimmy didn't do great.  here is how they grade at pff https://www.profootballfocus.com/about/how-we-grade/.  people that don't understand pff don't like it, but its actually a pretty accurate way to rate a players season.

How did we score only 6 pts against KC? Clausen did throw 2 TD passes...... Maybe his second half was not so great, but he was pretty accurate with his passes and had almost 300 passing yds, only 1 intercept which is debatable whether or not he was to blame.....

No trading of comp picks in the next draft b/c it doesn't take effect until 2017.
