[News] Late For Work 12/21: Should Kamar Aiken Be Considered A 'Real' No. 1 Receiver?

114 posts in this topic

OK so my thoughts Aiken should be on the WR corp next season he reminds me a lot of Q. Butler i wanna see more from but he did show some fire at times in camp and preseason and had a lot of praise. We should have Campanaro back and ready same with Perriman so we can see what this dude can do. Then the thing will be is Sr coming back if he does then yes he is in.. Which means Marlon sorry you will have to go.

I like Campanaro and the potential he brings, but he's got to be on an extremely short leash next season.  He's too injury prone.

Secondary I think we should almost wipe clean.. Keep Will Hill and Elam to give him one last shot since this was gonna be his year before he got injured for the season. The rest we need to to look at cuz none of them are worth anything on the field right now Jimmy Smith is not good Webby his body just let him down so much that he isnt the same player, he has the heart of an athlete in an old mans body.

Hill (quality of play, though I find a bit overrated) and Jimmy (due largely to contract) are locked in.

Everybody else in the secondary, including Webb (though I think he stays) could easily be gone. I think Shareece Wright may have played his way into a job next season on this team, and I think we like Will Davis.

Personally, I don't think our corners are garbage, but I think Kendrick Lewis is. A FS who actually knows how to play FS is one of my biggest wish list items for this team.

I noticed that Kendrick Lewis continues to play and get beat. When does the organization accept that pick-up was a mistake and start playing Brooks or other safeties? Also, what are your opinions on the Raven's secondary next year? Do they build it around Will Hill and Jimmy Smith?

The only thing that makes me cringe more than seeing us in those mustard-colored pants is seeing how well the Steelers are doing. I HATE it!! They have nearly as many players on IR as we do. Of course majority of those players aren't starters, but still. They were considered an afterthought with weakling defense and a patched up O-line. How in the hell are they doing so good?! :S

I think they've tried Brooks a few times, and he hasn't been any better. Just don't have any solid backup options at FS right now.

Definitely a position I expect them to address in the offseason.

As far as corner, to be honest, its possible corner doesn't change much for next season. Wright has played better, though not great, and I think the coaching staff liked Will Davis before he tore his ACL. Jimmy is locked in, and Webb I think has played well enough to stay.

Ideally, they could use an early draft pick on a corner, give him a year as the 3rd or 4th guy, and hope he develops to take over a spot in 2017. Otherwise, I'd focus more on getting a FS and at least 1-2 more pass rushers. Those positions are more critical to me.

Aiken is a strong number three.I'm liking the idea of Smitty,Perriman and Aiken as our top 3 WR's next year, but I still would like to see them trade up into the back half of the first round and draft Doctson.Ramsey and Doctson can e our Jimmy and Torrey for the next five years. And I mean that as in they could help fill the same two positions, because they don't really have the same skill sets as the Smith's.

Buck should have been able to return to the game to boost his confidence, that's that poor coaching by Harbaugh when Allen is clearly a big part moving forward. I bet he would have ran so hard to redeem himself.

Not that it means much in the final outcome, but how come no one is talking about the blatant offsides on KC prior to the pick 6? CBS was still talking about the lateness of Reid throwing the review flag. Surprised Sarah didn't catch that and show on this page.

To be honest, as much as it sucks to watch, I think this franchise needed a season like this. The youth on the team needed to be held to the fire in order to realistically understand what we have going forward. Hate to use the example, but look at the Steelers a couple years ago when they were down. They were holding on to their old identity of a tough defense, when in reality they had a bunch of aged veterans who couldn't do the job. They reevaluated their team which turned out to be one of the most explosive offenses in the league.

We needed this season to figure out who we are as a team. That will help us to figure out what direction to go moving forward...just don't do t in those yellow pants....ever....again.

Ridiculous that Harbaugh kept his best runner on the bench. Did he bench Jernigan, whose stupid penalty gave the Chiefs new life and a TD? Harbaugh seems to pick and choose when it comes to handing out repercussions. He is a lousy coach and an even worse evaluator of talent. His and Ozzies personnel decisions have decimated the Ravens defense. Perriman? What a joke. This guy was never anyone's number one pick. Just like Elam and Kindle. You can only waste so many high draft choices before it comes back to bite you big time.

He didn't run any harder this week or last week after he lost a fumble against Seattle...

Tashaun Gibson,Eric Berry and Eric Weddle will all be unrestricted next year and I think the last two will actually hit the market.

"It's also possible that Ravens are wearing the pants as part of the NFL's Super Bowl 50 celebration"

One sure hopes so... because it would mean we'll see no more of these revolting pants...

These pants are the materialized from of the phrase "adding insult to injury"...

And will all probably be out of our price range, unfortunately.

And #30 didn't add anything to the running game, so holding buck out was a bad idea plus he real good catching out the back field. Why don't QB's get pulled for turnovers but running backs do. I'm sure neither is intentionally turning it over. Allen is better than Forsett this season before the injury.

The problem is that it's very hard to even vaguely plan about the free agency strategy and targets until we don't know how Flacco's deall will be reworked... And I don't think at all it's a forgone conclusion that it will imemdiately boost our free cap space a lot...

That said, I don't think we'll be in the position to really think about the big name UFA's... there will - like always - be teams with ten times as much free cap space as we do...

Kendrick Lewis got beat on one play..and it was just a great pass.. Kendrick was in position to make a play on the ball.. but of course like our season has been going his fingers tips just missed the pass... and to their credit the Defense actually played well.. only gave up 177 yds passing... and the pick-six wasn't Jimmy's fault... he had no idea that Brown was going to fall down.. it was a quick slant and the pass had to come out his hands quickly before the window closed in the zone...

I agree that Webb has played well enough to stay, but I think they will move him to free safety or nickel permanently. After all, the biggest gripe against him this season is that he doesn't have the speed for man2man on speedster outside WRs. Otherwise he's smart and sees the field well. They will need to make a call on whether they want to keep one of the CBs currently on our IR or draft a talent from the draft (understanding that many DBs take beyond rookie year to develop fully).

One of the needs we do need to address high in the draft in my opinion is an addition to the O-line, preferably at the tackle position. We'll have some running backs to trade for some positions as well, because we can't possibly keep Forsett, Taliaferro, Allen, West and Magee all and they are pretty decent. Not sure about Magee, but the rest. Pass rusher and/or other OLB will be another urgent need. We might lose Courtney Upshaw and both Sizzle and Doom are not a long term solution - next year for sure, but beyond that? I'd rather we train a replacement while they're playmakers and on our roster than in action as starters in rookie season.

Funny thing is, those "gold" pants probably would look half bad if they were matched with the black jerseys instead of the purple. The bad news: They would look just like the Steelers. Those pants should be eliminated immediately.

Weddle is the main guy I'd like to see here and he should be a cheap pick up.He has a big name but he's 30 and he's not playing like he was back when he signed his last contract.I'd be surprised if a team gave him more than $3-4 million per year.

Aiken is playing really well right now. Unfortunately it's been a slow build for him. On the most positive of notes, he has improved every week out there. But he wasn't playing this good for the first half of the season. When he was our #1 receiver (and he actually has been all year long in snap count, and was at worst our #2 receiver in read progression, even before Steve Smith went on IR) for the first half of the season he wasn't cutting it, but since Steve went down, he has been stepping up his game every week and it's a damn good thing, but this team and Flacco might have enjoyed some more success when we still had a chance to have a good season earlier in the year if Aiken had been this good back then. Hopefully now that he's learning to be the best player he can be, it continues into next season. I'd love to see Flacco with THIS Aiken, rather than the very pedestrian one that probably wouldn't have been on most team's roster at all from the first half of the season.

Aiken is playing well, but I think this his progress needs to be kept in perspective. We needed this Kamar Aiken back when Steve Smith was the only reliable receiver on the team. After you're real #1 goes down, and your #1 draft pick never sees the field, Aiken should be viewed as a productive #3. That's what he'd be on a team with reliable receivers.

We have the makings for a strong WR corps. We have big guys (Brown, Waller), small guys (Campanaro), possession guys (Aiken, Butler), fast guys (Perriman, Givens), and freakishly strong guys who catch everything (Smith)...if only they could stay healthy.

Harbaugh can't have another bad year if he do we have to get some new coaches up in here. A least pees would be let go we haven't had a top ten D since Greg mattison and chuck. Harbaugh record after Ray and Ed 22wins 24 lost unacceptable with one playoff win
