What changes do you want to see for next year? (Merged)

Actual talent on the field so people can stop thinking the coordinators are the reason units are bad.  I'd swear most people forget what Rex's 2007 defense looked like with a lack of talent.  And I still can't believe Trestman gets crucified when you look at the offensive depth chart.

So yeah, that'd be the biggest change to me

Pees of course but get it out of their skulls that Jimmy Smith is anything other than a #2 at best.

So, how would you say Jimmy was playing before the injury?

Which one? I cant recall him playing a full 16 as a starter. His play this year? Please, i don't want to hear about some nagging foot injury, he's a spare bottom lime and its killing that secondary.

id rather see jimmy successfully rehab his lisfranc injury.. ya know, the injury that is more likely to end career than an acl tear in this day and age...

Pees - gone. Have to also look at position coaches on defense as well.

Guys in the booth who tell Harbs to challenge or not. Seems like they haven't done their job well since 2008 lol

Strength & Conditioning coaches. Seriously.

QB  coach - Flacco seemed to regress this season and while I understand the lack of talent around him, it went deeper than that IMO.

Scrap BPA for at least the first 3 rounds. We have needs, let's fill them while we have a rare top pick. Use BPA only as it relates to filling our needs.

I've never been a fan of Pees. The drop-off was noticeable as soon as he took over. Let's not forget that he did have Suggs, Ray, Ed in 2012, and still had trouble closing out games. While he's had some bright spots (2013 partially, 2014 before injuries) he has been very inconsistent.

That said, this team is still lacking talent at key positions, and injuries have derailed back-to-back seasons now. I think change is on the horizon with this defense. Many of us grew up with one of the most dominant Ds in NFL history, and are now watching one of the worst. Refs/rule changes, etc all go into this too, but I think it's time for a change.

If I had to pick another ... It would be a really punishing run game. I miss that too.

I can't find something more recent, but going into last season, Harbaugh was 6th in the NFL at percentage of challenges won

I don't think people realize what that kind of injury does to a skill position player.

It isn't winning or losing them really, it is what he chooses to challenge. Ball spots when they don't affect anything really other than a yd or 2. I don't think I've seen any HC challenge more ball spots. Then because those are rarely overturned, we don't challenge something important later in the game because we can't afford the possible loss of a TO.

2012 Terrell Suggs - missed first 6 games due to achilles tear, came back too soon and played rest of season while still recovering from said tear

2012 Ray Lewis - Shell of his former self, missed last 10 games with tricep tear.  Painfully obvious that his body slowed down in the post season.  Run defense actually improved after his injury (anybody remember the back to back 200 yard rushing games allowed with Ray??

2012 Ed Reed - Shell of his former self.  Played the next season for 2 different teams and hasn't played since.

Let's be realistic, none of these players was really doing much for anybody during 2012.    Pees has had one of the most injured Ravens defenses during his tenure here and most don't want to acknowledge that for some reason.  I said it in another thread, even Rex's 2007 squad looked horrible after all those injuries they had.

Fire the coaches and get rid of all the guys who aren't performing. Take the hit this year.  Let next year should be building for 2017. Cut Monroe, Daryl Smith, Pitta, Lavar Arrington.  Trade Elvis. Let Tucker go in free agency.  A kicker isn't going to put us over the top.

We need to get young.  We need a fresh approach.

Not disagreeing that the situation hasn't been ideal, but something does need to change. The willingness to settle for average is not something this team should be setting itself up for. Injuries, or not.

lol

Defense has declined since he took over in 2012 in every area except run defense. The injury excuse is old and worn out. His defenses cannot close out games and I don't think it is a coincidence those same complaints sent him out of NE once their offense wasn't dropping 40-50 pts on everyone. I stopped counting the 4th quarter leads Pees' defenses have given up but at one point 54% of our losses during his tenure came when we held the lead late in the 4th and the D failed.0

Less than 50 percent and a lot of those challenges would not be big deal even if we won.  I guess coaches throughout the league challenge too many plays that they won't win.

Building for 2019 would be more realistic under this approach.

Who gives a rats patooty about the fans and what they want or expect?! I would like to see Flacco get healthy, command the offense and go out and have a blistering regular season. Of course, there are things that need to happen in order for this to happen, so those are understood to take place as well (healthy and strong oline, Sr back and add another WR, solid D etc).

So basically, we need about a half dozen or more new, quality players.

More or less, yes. But couldn't care less what any of the fans expect or how they perceive things. That's your thing.

you think a lisfranc is just some nagging foot injury? please, my friend, look up what a lisfranc injury is and look up how many careers it has derailed, it is quite possibly the most devastating common injury in sports today. torn acl's and achilles and pectoral tendons and things of that nature have all had their impacts minimized by modern medicine, lisfranc injuries have not had those advances. its up there with torn patellar tendons as one of scariest career altering injuries in sports today.

I stopped counting the 4th quarter leads Pees' defenses have given up but at one point 54% of our losses during his tenure came when we held the lead late in the 4th and the D failed.0

And yet, to start 2014 with his better players healthy, the defense gave up a whopping 15.5 points per game the first 8 games.  For comparison's sake, the much acclaimed 2011 defense with Pagano (and healthy players) gave up 15.6 points per game the first 8 games.   Rex's 2008 defense (again mostly healthy), gave up 16.5 points per game over the first 8 games

So this terrible coordinator managed to do as well (actually better) with a healthy defense (that had freaking Matt Elam and Chykie Brown starting) as the much loved and praised Chuck Pagano and Rex Ryan did.  And then, apparently unlike any other DC anywhere, his defense became worse when critical players got injured.  FIRE PEES!11!!!1!

But we'll ignore how well his defense has played when he's had healthy and comparable talent to past DCs.  It's all his fault.......

What is his excuse this year besides the Sizzle injury?

I noticed he was throwing off his back foot quite a bunch even when not being pressured.  But he was on pase to have his best statiscal year

Pees is an average DC in my eyes. Nothing more, nothing less. When he has quality players he looks good, when he has mediocre or worse players he looks mediocre or worse.

Ironically, based on what I've seen so far, I'd put Rex Ryan and Chuck Pagano in that same place as well. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be impressed by with either of those guys. Pagano has had a pretty bad defense since showing up in Indy, and Rex Ryan has the most talented defense in the league playing as badly as they possibly can.

That's what IR is for then if its so debilitating. Prior to any injury he wasn't anything to get excited about I have been pointing this very thing out out for years. Some folks even brought up how he "shutdown" AJ in a college match up...well terrific this is the NFL and he hasn't proven a thing as first rounder with that inflated contract. As soon as the FO understands he is just a an average schmuck then the secondary can move forward.
