[News] Ravens Make Seven Roster Moves

66 posts in this topic

Injuries will make a mess of any team so zip it please. This is and always has been one of the best organizations in football. Please don't compare us with the Browns because of one bad season. Spoiled fans we are. Go Ravens.

Renner was cut a couple of times this season on and off the practice squad. He was out there for the league to pick up and in a QB starved league, someone would have grabbed him, if they thought he was an NFL QB.

He had a couple of nice minutes at the end of a preseason game against 4th team players.

Nothing against Renner, but the facts that (A) he's only played decently well against 3rd stringers in the preseason and (B) he's worked out for a couple teams and hasn't been signed by any of them make a good argument to look at Mallett and Clausen more. Mallett is signed for next season too and if he gets his act together, he could be a good backup. I don't think we should spend a draft pick on a backup QB when there are a lot of other needs on the team.

that goes both ways. He was playing against third stringers but he was also playing WITH third stringers. And best way for him to grow is throw him into the fire and get him some in game experience.

Hopefully there will be some roster moves with the coaching staff this off season. Not going to say who, just saying it should happen.

I'm not going to bash Marlon, being the #3 WR at the time he was always going to be the 3rd or 4th option, and when the ball did come his way, he did a good job...Before Flacco and S.Smith went down, it seemed like those were his first two option, and that is why Aiken wasn't involved in the offense, and probably why he got bashed a tad, but since he has been moved up to #1 he has had the opportunity to get the majority passes thrown his way, and has done well....Brown, Butler and Givens look good going into next year...And Marlon if not released in the off-season will have to fight for a spot, especially if Perriman comes back strong...JMO....

I have been doing so much research on draft prospects and I am obsessed with Jalen Ramsey. I honestly think he can be our next Reed or CMac. However if we win another game there is no way we have a chance at getting him. I think that is why we are going to play our young players for the rest of the season. Play hard and do our best, but against 3 playoff teams fighting for a spot? We should lose them all and be in a hotspot to draft our next franchise star. The future is looking bright.

OH MY GOD! They cut Renner AGAIN?!?! Give the kid a damn chance!!! What jerk decided that rolling with Ryan Mallet (a proven waste of space) would be a good idea?!

Another lame, stubborn Harbaugh move smh. I was thinking the same thing. The same way he never gave Daniel Brown a shot until he had no choice.

The decision to promote Rolle coincides with Harbaugh’s announcement Monday night that the Ravens want to use veteran defensive back Lardarious Webb in more of a free safety and nickel cornerback role. Moving Webb inside will allow the Ravens to get Rolle and rookie cornerback Tray Walker on the field.

We have some young guys we can put outside. So, we’re going to pull the trigger, put those guys outside, put Webby in there where he belongs, let him play the nickel, let him play free safety,” Harbaugh said. “He looks great playing free safety back there.

^ I said all of this stuff throughout the entire season.

I wanted to see more of Renner in the last few games, especially since we know already what we have with Schaub and we have a body of work with Clausen, too. We don't know about this young kid and how much of an up side he has. That's too bad, for now, anyway.

I wanted to see Renner too. Ryan Mallet has experience and that is probably the only reason he is given a shot.  Next season we have to seriously evaluate who the backup QB(s) will be.  I sense the team may require more than one and I believe Schaub is the "Raiders" Schaub we all knew about.  I do no see a future for Schaub on the team.   I am assuming Joe with be back and in top form.

Yep....and at this point with the 9 losses any concept is on the table.

I wonder if Ed Reed would be open to a coaching position next season.

Bro that would be a good topic to create as a seperate forum issue.  This thread is about roster moves....

Im happy for them promoting the young guys, but why not give Bryn Renner a shot???

I agree and Clausen & Schaub had their known flaws clearly displayed as we all expected. One touchdown pass?  More turnovers or negative offensive stats than TDs

Oh wow, so exciting! Another player who was undrafted! With nothing to lose, I think we should sit Kendrick Lewis (1 good play the whole season),play Brooks and Walker, and put Webb at safety and nickle. And PLEASE give Daniel Brown some more reps! We cut him earlier to keep Marlon Brown and MB disappeared. Meanwhile, in two games back, DB has shown he can get open and make plays.

What the heck, They CUT RENNER to sign Mallett? Holy cow! Renner has the physical abilities so I'm assuming they're saying he's just an idiot? I can't fathom why we didn't or wouldn't see him out there, even for a few plays till the end of the year but they would throw Mallet out there who we kinda already know would be a lateral move from Shaub at best.

I'm also not happy with signing Rolle. 6 teams in 3 years???? Sounds like a bust to me if 5 other teams said he wasn't good enough for their practice squad but I guess he's good enough to be a starting CB on ours? I don't see the logic there when you're trying to find young talent and you keep putting guys out there that have already had 5 or 6 chances to "Step up" and didn't.

I guess it all comes back to me being ticked off that Bryn hasn't gotten a chance at the spotlight but a bunch of confirmed losers will. I must be missing something.

Actually......Harbs does not make the roster move decisions.....he's apart of the decisions but from what I've read....and heard countless times before.....Ozzie makes those decisions.....the GM builds the roster....not the coach....he's just apart of it.....as much as i hate to say it......we don't scout players and we're not watching these guys practice every day....Ozzie and his crew watches every practice, every game and watch tape on other players.....i have faith in ozzie and the rest of the org....he probably just wasn't ready......it's a lot more to the QB position then just throwing the ball

Such an outpouring of love for Renner from so many Ravens fans.

I don't think the organization views Renner as an idiot ... but I'm not sure where Renner has the clear physical abilities you are referring to. What we saw in his preseason performances was that he'd look good on some plays (again, remember - against 3rd string talent) and then throw a pick or miss a pass that was clearly due to his inability to put zip on the ball. A lack of arm talent has been the book on him from the beginning and we can only imagine that our staff has watched him in practices (something neither you nor I can see or judge) for the entire season and has deemed him not to be a viable NFL player.

I think it is fair to say we do know who Schaub is - but Mallett? The guy has talent and he himself has had little opportunity to show it. So the guy is going to be condemned for not handling the situation in Texas well, where the coach was in a year long vacillation mode over his QBs? Sure, he could have handled things better, but I don't know that you can say he's a worthless non-entity based on that.

Bottom line is this ... We are in search for who our 2016 backup QB will be. Schaub isn't it and the staff felt that Mallett has a better shot of being a player in this league than Renner.

Harbaugh, I believe He is very involved. If Harbaugh doesn't like somebody he isn't gonna play them. Ozzie has had to deal with 2 Super Bowl winning Coaches with a lot of Ego. That's why they Drafted Kyle Boller in 2003, Brian Billick Couldn't wait for a good Quarterback and overreached and the rest is History.

Guys... I don't think there's one single Ravens-fan who wouldn't be happy to see Renner getting a chance - me included.

But let's stay realistic: all we have seen of Renner was what he showed in the four pre-season games. He had great passes, a memorable last second winning TD - and also some awful INT's. Also, let's not forget that we have never see him since - while the coaches did. If they decided to release him instead of activating him, there must be a reason...

And anyway, by all probability, he's gonna be around to pick up again if he's needed - just like he was around to pick up the last time. So, if the Mallett-experiment and the Clausen-expereiment ends up failing like the Schaub-experiment did, we may easily see Renner back.

what they should if fire the whole secondary and start over including the def coach and hire ray lewis as a def coordinator.

Thats a pretty good dream you got there

Can't wait to see what coaching roster moves are going to be made on Jan 4th or shortly afterwards.

Nothing would surprise me after 2013 they promoted juan costillo... who knows they might fire jerry and harbs might step down for pees. lol dont take me serious

Smith didn't restructure. He was extended 4 year $41mill/21gntd.  Ozzie was outflanked by Drew Rosehaus who threatened with open market being that Smith was in a contract year and corner were expected to go at a premium. .  Smith has 1 season of decent play. His first two  teetered between getting burned and getting hurt. His fourth season he was hurt and before he was even cleared to practice Ozzie inked him without knowing what player would show this year. He's back to playing as he did when he arrived but it doesn't matter.  Nobody is eating his contract and he's too detrimental to the cap to cut.  He'll play lights out in 2016 or he'll be cut in late 2017 when his dead money is under $3mill.

*2 1/2 good years... some more upset fans complaining that jimmy is playing injured just saying he sucks

Why is anyone worried about winning . We are now in 2016 training camp to see who we keep on the cheap so that we don't have to go into free agency searching  or burn draft picks .

Givens and Mathews are sure to be back and they are testing Tray Walker next week to see if they have a candidate to facilitate moving Webb to safety.

Givens or matthews have about a 10 % shot at the roster lets keep it real... givens has done his job but nothing to waste a space on... we have 3-4 capable tight ends and 4 capable running backs and a fullback... that means there might only be 5 receivers next year think Perriman kamar a draft choice/free agency/cap casualty player Campanaro and kaelin clay for our return man

I actually like this idea. We have NOTHING to play for so why not let the young guys show their stuff. Also I know a lot of people will neg me but; why risk more injuries on our "A" team for basically nothing.

I think Renner would have been the smarter move, we need a young QB that is willing to accept the back-up role and learn behind Flacco. Not someone that had a chance in the NFL and blew it.
