[News] Late For Work 12/15: Odell Beckham Jr. Does (Near) Perfect Ray Lewis Dance After Touchdown

I'mn afraid the signing of Mallett anbd Schaub not going on IR means Renner is out... No way we'll keep 4 QB's on the roster for long...

I always have a soft spot for guys who perform well in the preseason, the game last week was rough but it was at least nice to see Daniel Brown make some plays. I hoped Renner would get a shot as well, but I have the same fear as you.

Just once I would like to see this team in GREAT cap shape. I am so tired of giving up players because we don't have cap room. EVERY year we give up someone that could really help us when other teams find a way to keep their guys year after year.

It's a byproduct of winning. Good teams develop good players. Good players get paid. There is a reason that Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland all seem to have the most cap space every year. Patriots didn't keep Revis or Talib (wish they would have kept Arrington, lol), the 49ers lost their entire team. The Seahawks will be in salary cap hell next year when Wilson's contract kicks in so they could lose half their team in the next 2 years.

Webb has played better than Jimmy Smith to date if you ask me.  He's also accepted the coach's decisions to move him around to safety and the slot w/out issue.

I personally think Jimmy hasn't overcome the mental hurdle of his foot injury.  I think he's a 100% healthy but mentally he's not confident that he is.

Something is off with Jimmy, remember when Pees said he wasn't playing hard enough? Its either Jimmy or Pees or both.

I'm surprised Mallet chose the Ravens over Cinci.  Why wouldn't he go to a team that's guaranteed a playoff spot?

He may still have that chance but perhaps at the time he indicated interest in us because Dalton was still playing. Maybe he sees McCarron as viable competition?

NFL website is also now saying Ravens signed Mallet...... My question is why they would want to sign a player that seems like trouble to me..... Plus, is he really that much better than Clausen or Renner at this point? I am personally not too positive with this "possible" signing.....

He was with New England for a few years and there wasn't any trouble. Even for the majority of his stay in Houston there wasn't trouble. I think O'Brien just alienated him. Things aren't really that healthy in Houston. None-the-less, it was still Mallet's fault the way things went down. That doesn't mean he can't change.

The bottom line with Mallet is his arm strength. This guy re-introduces the deep ball as a viable threat in our offense should Joe not be available next year.

Here I was hoping we were done with the bad news for this season, but guess not: Ryan Mallett for $2.5M in 2016...jeesh!

Considering everything that's been going on with this dude, his immaturity, arguing with coaches, discipline problems, overruling OC-s play calling etc., than 2.5M seems WAAAAAY too much. And he's not even that good of a player.

Why we throwing this kind of money at this kind of backup player is beyond me. I understand we need solid backup with Flacco's injury, but I seriously believe we could have gotten a backup QB with at least similar potential (weighing in all pros and cons) with much less money. Guess we have too much cap space in our hands, LOL.

A lot of "dead money" on the books! May need to re-evaluate how long-term contracts are distributed and who has the final word on such. Would that be Steve Biscotti or the Dick Cass. The "Cap Guy", Mr M's hands aren't clean either.

I wonder if Schaub's injury is like Manning's injury, a face saving way of benching him. He might not be going to IR due to a contract clause and payment, I really think they are trying to avoid bonus money going to Schaub by not starting him or why wouldn't they IR him? I don't see why we can't play Renner, especially with the other young guys getting the chances right now.

our receivers cant get open and our DBs cant cover becuz our receivers practice against our DBs and vice versa. Ive seen the routes our receivers run and its not pretty. Ive seen how far back our DBs play off the receivers and its puts our entire back field plus our pass rush at a disadvantage. Something needs to change (and its not necessarily the players) its either the mindset or the coaches.

I just gotta get this off my chest. It feels to me like we've created an environment in this organization that likes the players to downplay the legacy of greats like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Yesterday in reading the comments from Seahawks players after the game we heard Michael Bennett say he wanted to play in a way that honors the legacy of defense since they were playing in "The Home of Defense," built by Lewis, Reed, Ngata and Suggs.

Then last night we saw one of the most dynamic young all-stars and game changers in the NFL score a game-winning TD and what does he do? He pays homage to Ray Lewis by doing his dance.

Since the end of that era, I have yet to see a single player on OUR OWN TEAM dare to do Lewis' dance to pay respect to his legacy. I have yet to see any single player invoke the need to uphold our tradition of defense by mentioning Reed or others in a pregame hype or an interview with media.

I mean I get that we want to encourage new young players to have their own identities and not just forever be caught in the shadow and be empty shells or knock-offs of legends, but something has to be said about paying proper respect to the legacy of Baltimore Football.

It's as if after the "Great Age of Swagger" we've slipped into the "Dark Age of Quiet Below-average good guys."

Anyone else feel this way? Forget the cap, or IR, or draft, or anything else. The fundamental, existential question facing this franchise is: where is our swagger?

One eye on the draft order situation: now it looks like making the top #3 seems unlikely, as all 3-10 teams may easily lose out, all of them have 3 good opponents:

Browns: SEA, KC, PIT

Titans: NE, HOU, IND

SD: MIA, OAK, DEN

Some of the other 4-9 teams, however, will probably win some of their games. So, if we lose out (once again: I'm not rooting for it - but right now this seems to be the most likely scenario), we'll probably pick at the #4-6 position.

Not bad.

The fact that Steve Smith isn't saying anything about retiring shows he is at least considering coming back. He already announced his retirement, so if he was sure about sticking to it, there would be no reason to keep it a secret.

According to the table, Kendrick Lewis will account for $467M in dead money in 2016 & 2017 should he get cut. Think somebody inserted the wrong symbol

I can't say that I am thrilled to pick up Mallett with all his personal baggage, especially at the cost of dropping Renner who is also familiar with the system and the players.   Why not give Renner a shot to see what he can do in a regular season game?  Not liking this move at all.  I really liked Mostert as well, thought he had a lot of potential. Plus, part of the reason CLE and TEN are routinely picking tops is cuz they almost always pick the wrong guys.

I get what you are saying, I do. However in my opinion Swagger comes when you are winning. Having swagger now @ 4-8 is like being down 35 points, finally scoring to cut it to 28 points with less than 2 minutes left and doing a self promoting Touchdown dance. Just kinda don't go hand and hand.

Looking at the dead money chart above, I'm wondering if there's going to be a blood-letting of sorts after the draft & before June 1. Seems likely with the # of underachieving or frequently injured players listed.

Didn't Webb just restructure? As much as Ozzie doesn't want to kick the can down the road, salary wise, the Ravens are still dealing with cap hits. Suggs is owed. Webb is owed. Pitta is owed. Monroe is owed. And now Joe has to renegotiate, pushing his money down the road and possibly Osemele....
