Updated: Ravens Sign Ryan Mallett

While I agree with you, what makes it frustrating is that Mallet does have some talent, and in the right environment, I think he could grow into a solid starting QB (assuming he ever matures as a person).

I don't see that happening with Mallett.. He even looks like Ryan Leaf.  Seems like there is a Mallett or Leaf in every generation of football players.

We do need to start mallet on Sunday. Not only do we need to start evaluating him for next year but it will also help us better gauge our receivers, bc he's more similar to joe.

Better stats then our current starter and all other options we have available at the position.

I would expect any starting QB to have better stats than the guys were sending out there now...that's why they only play when Joe gets hurt.

Stats are cute and all, but the Bills haven't improved one bit with Tyrod over an EJ Manuel or a Kyle Orton.

Not interested in QB starters who don't make their team better. Trying to build a winning football team, not a winning fantasy team.

He's also not available, so not even sure why he's part of the discussion other than the lazy second-guessing

I don't like Ryan Mallett at all as a person, but I love what he brings to the table as a quarterback. For the first time, we have a backup that can do what Joe does. I like that. I don't like him, but I want him to finish out as the starter, since he'll actually be here next season, unlike Schaub or Clausen.

And not to mention. Clausen wasn't the best person ever either. I don't think Mallett was that bad

Tyrod is not available.

So, who should we get?

At this point i like RG3 as a backup.  We was a winning QB with speed demons at wideout and a possession receiver.  He will be a free agent after this year and he might come cheap.  If he can keep his mouth shut and play ball.

Its not just about stats.  Tyrod is a better QB than Mallet, Schaub and Clausen. Buffalo's problem is on defense right now.  They are definitely scoring the football. Tyrod is definitely making his team better.

If your not interested in QB's that make their team better,  then why are you interested in Flacco?  I've been waiting for him to turn a receiver into a better player.

Has yet to happen IMHO.

The fragile frail flower who has been demoted to bench rider in just four seasons?

There is a reason he is no longer a starter. There is a reason he most likely will not be in the NFL next year.

Mobile QB's are not the future.

Clausen and Trestman know each other from Chicago, although I'm not sure whether he played any snaps before Trestman got fired.

Yes, but he does know Trestman's terminology.

The closest I'd get to RG3 is the distance he is from us now,  ie DC to Baltimore.  He ruined that locker room as a starting QB and if he were to get that chance he would not succeed in Trestman's offense.  RG3 needs to be used in an offense suitable to his strengths.  That would not be here.

Think it's blatantly obvious at this point that Torrey Smith has debunked the whole "Joe doesn't make his receivers better" theory.

And just so we are clear on Buffalo, their passing yardage is down year over year and they're scoring about 2 points a game more. They are an average offense in this league, and the largest difference is the increase in their running game.

I heard the same rhetoric about Taylor!

Rhetoric? Do you think Taylor is going to be an everyday franchise QB? I think the jury is still out on that thought. He really wasn't asked to carry his team this year and they hardly had a successful season. Ty may may end up being OK, but he's hardly a proven commodity.

I heard the same rhetoric about Taylor!

What? That he is a fragile frail flower that has never started a full season in his career ?

Which by the way Mallett  look absolutely fantastic today.

I agree the jury is still out on Taylor as well as our starter here.

Mallett might be an inexpensive option at the QB position for us though.

Joe's days are numbered.

Everyone can see that his production on the field has been matched by every backup that we have put in.

So your claim to fame is that he made a second round NFL talent a better player?  OKAY!!!!

Debunked?????  What?????

I'll bet Mallett could have done that.

We're averaging about five points a game fewer since Joe got hurt, but sure, we've been doing better I guess.

We don't need to score as many points when we are not turning the ball over every game!

Mallett managed the game well.

lol what?

With Joe, the Ravens score at least 20 points in 70% of the games.  Without Joe, the Ravens score at least 20 points in 40%.

The Ravens offense with Joe scored 30+ points twice.  Without Joe, 0 times (the offense scored 27 on Cleveland when you remove the kick 6).

I don't think one good game by Mallet is making Flacco sweat at all

Thought I'd come on and just say that the guy had a great game. He spread the ball across all of his receivers and backs, and made big plays when we most needed them.

You have to score more points when you are turning the ball over every game!

Points don't mean you having a good game.  Sometimes it means your playing catch up.

I could care less if we score 6 points a game as long as it translates into a win.

Joe is not the answer at QB.  I'm sorry.  If we can match his production and limit the turnovers he is expendable.

Mallett could be capable of doing this........fingers crossed.

In today's NFL you need more than 20 more often than not. Turnovers or not.

Joe's days are numbered? Yeah, about one through about 4K or so. lol

If you guys like the production you are receiving from your starting QB then I can't argue you.  If you look at his stats and on field play and don't see a problem.......Again there is nothing to be said.........It's a little embarrassing that a guy signs with the team 12 days ago and is essentially giving you the same production........That's what you should be (LOL) about.

I can't wait until camp starts next year!  I hope Joe comes back healthy next year so there will be no more excuses.
