You guys do know that Clausen isn't exactly the best character guy either right?

I hate Mallet with a passion. He has literally all the potential in the world but is a waste.

I just hate the QB carosuel. I don't care if Flacco "stinks butt" in your opinion. I'd prefer him to this any day of the week.

If we signed him, it's to be the #3 QB.

If he causes any trouble, he gets cut.

It's not like we drafted him in the first round to be the savior ala Boller.

Don't understand all the weeping and gnashing of teeth here.

I agree. Somehow the guy thinks he's entitled to something, all I could sum up from him on Hard Knocks. Boggles my mind.

Well, if there is one thing he learned from backing up brady, its his sense of entitlement

Crazy to think that this guy was supposed to be the Brady after Brady. Now he's a punchline even among the season we're having.

This guys got a real attitude problem. I watched him earlier in the season with the Texans get shook up and hoyer came in for a few plays and drove down the field and threw a td and mallet just had this look on his face like he was so pissed off and was just shaking his head even though his team had just scored and taken the lead. Hoyer came over near him and he didn't congratulate him or even acknowledge him whatsoever. That's not a team player and I don't want him as a raven. Go with rynner. Let him learn.

Hope this is a wake up call to some of the Flacco haters and what not. Being in this QB carousel is brutal, signing other teams castoffs and veteran QB's hoping for the best is terrible. I like having a consistent guy in Flacco to depend on ...

this is what it would be like every year and every other week without flacco. Scrambling for a qb and trying to figure out who's " less bad"... Be thankful for what we have people. We are fortunate .

Maybe if we had moved Hurst out of the LT spot earlier we wouldnt have an issue at QB right now. Just saying. That line was breaking down and to leave your starting QB like that out to slaughter week after week. It was just a matter of time.

goood point

I don`t mind! Schaub will not be there next season and they can start the battle for Backup early… we even don`t know if Joe will be back in time for the Camp! If he (Mallett) didn`t get his act together he will be out of the door real fast! I don`t trust the Texans Organization … it`s drama often … A. Johnson or how they handled Ed Reed … I don`t think we have something to lose with the sighing of Mallett … they can scout him the next three weeks…I don`t think there is a better option right now… and before I am stuck with another QB for a year and he counts vs. the CAP I take 3 weeks!

Our suffering better come to a complete stop the second our season is over. Football Gods have never been so brutal.

My thoughts exactly. Marginally talented lockerroom cancer, you could tell Bill O'Brien grew to hate Mallett and his selfish antics and wanted him out of Houston ASAP. The fact that Houston didn't even keep him as a backup tells you everything you need to know, he's a distraction and negative presence on the team.

Our evaluators are definitely concerning me. We only signed Forsett/Daniels because Kubiak pushed for them, our premiere FA last offseason was Kendrick Lewis.. it feels like every team we come up against has higher quality depth/rotational players. The fact that we would sign Mallett after what he pulled this season is a huge red flag, seriously one of the lowest character NFL players in recent memory.

Low character is body slamming someone on a bed of guns. He was selfish. Some people of his age have a selfish mentality. Do you personally know Ryan Mallet to make a statement of his character as a man, or are you just speaking on his football attitude?

This is the reason I criticized Ozzie and management for not drafting one of the QBs in the 2014 draft. It was by the the deepest most underrated qb draft I saw!! Even after the top5 guys there is Garappolo, Murray,Mettenberger,Savage. The Bengals did not really miss Daulton much with AJ McCarron. The dude nearly threw for 300 yards in his first start!! And he has the least arm talent of those QBs. That was a great great draft for QBs and the ravens screwed around and waited to draft one!! And ended up with Wenning. Murray and Mettenberger both have strong accurate arms. Murray is very accurate and can run. Whispers out of Tennessee were offensive coaches whispering Zach had a better more accurate arm than Marcus.

we still had tyrod as the back up.

why waste a higher pick on a 3rd string QB when we usually carry just 2 QBs on the roster?

They are signing Ryan Mallett for a reported $2.5 million to be a BACKUP! What is this front office doing?! They can get one just as competent for around the vet minimum.

Maybe they enjoy having no rollover cap space

I highly doubt that's correct. Wouldn't make any sense. I hated the Schaub signing, expecially considering how much we gave him. I hate this one just as much. No offense, I hope you are wrong

The deal goes through 2016 and includes a $1.5 million base salary and up to $1 million in incentives-- per Ian Rapoport, nfl.com

Why no official word from the FO on this?  Don't understand the move; I guess they're prepping for next year preseason backup QB competition.  Seriously though, Renner looked good in preseason, don't know why we don't give him a chance with the remaining games - split time with Claussen.

Wait, what? $1.5M base and $1M incentives in December with no shot at the playoffs and only 3 games left? This better not be true or I may have to start agreeing with people calling for Ozzie to resign.

$2.5M for next year, not this year.

from what i read its this year and also extends into next year.

so basically a 1 year , 1 quarter of a year deal lol

Why can't we just play Bryn Renner?

I just want to see Renner, he "has a bit of that 'it factor'" - Marc Trestman

Mallet has the mouth (and mentality?) of an American 'Chav', teams will always be looking to fix him, maybe the Ravens can, they seem to have fixed Will Hill (but he is on D, and Mallet plays the most critical high charater position on any team). Puzzling signing. With Harbs being quiet on this, something funky behind the scenes is going on.

Much as I thought Schaub was a horrid QB, the signing did make sense in keeping the continutity of the Gary offense going and who knows how much that helped Joe and Trestman. I don't know what they are thinking with Mallet.

All I am seeing is coming from insiders, so it doesn't appear that anything is official at this point. If the reports are true, since the signing extends through 2016 ... that would imply he would definitely be a part of any competition for the backup QB spot next year.
