[News] Late For Work 12/14: 6 Takeaways From Ravens-Seahawks Game That Have Future Implications

108 posts in this topic

It must be me, but I don't see how being able to retain KO as a left tackle would be in any way more probable a scenario than being able to afford him as a guard.. if anything, it seems even more unlikely, as LT's are much more expensive. And that doesn't even include the 6.6M in dead money cutting Monroe would create.

It's simple. Unless they find a long term answer in the draft, the Ravens are going to have to pay a LT whether they keep KO at guard or not. If they give KO a big contract as a G, it will be much more difficult to afford a LT. If they start Urshel at G and give KO a contract to play LT, the line will be set. Cutting Monroe will give us some dead cap space, but it will also give us about $2million in cap relief, and that's just for 2016. It would save us much more money, with much less dead cap space, in 2017, so long term, it will be much more cap friendly to give big contracts to a G and a LT, as opposed to both Gs and a LT.

Sad days ahead in Baltimore but will only last till teh end of the season. Excitement begins with all the draft speculation and a brand new season in 2016! Go Ravens and make the most of what's left of this season.

Can I just say to the analysts that are "comparing" the Ravens and Seahawks... The Ravens are playing 2nd, 3rd, and some 4th string players... The Seahawks have most, if not all of their starters????? Come on Guys. We have known this for about a month now. Seems like everyone is just trying to tell us all "You're just not good enough".... Let our practice squad team play their practice squad team... That's a better matchup.

Thnks for the info.

TBH. I still don't see how it would work out - but I know it's me. and I hope we can keep KO - in either position.

C'mon Bio, you know it doesn't count unless it's in the record book.Lol. He does seem to know how to get open though! That;s a welcomed change.

Yep, sure, I know this quasi-TD won't show up in his stats - but I think we, Ravens-fans should count it as a TD - for what wrong does it do to anybody? ;)

PFT is reporting we are signing Mallett. With Clausens performance I think we will release Schaub and see what Mallett has as well. Just what I said we should do and got negged.

Since Schaub was on tje roster for the first game, his salary is guaranteed. Releasing him gets us nothing. More likely his injury is worse than originally thought.

It's what happens when you have a DB coach with zero coaching experience. To me the weakest positions on the Ravens are WR & CB. Which position coaches have zero coaching experience? - the WR & DB coaches. Sure, they played in the NFL but that doesn't mean much.

Wonder why the Patriots can seem to throw any WR off the street and have success? Yes, Brady but also they have a WR coach that has coached the position for 20 years. And he never played in the NFL. Why do the Squealers have so much success at WR? Because they have a WR coach with 31 years experience. The Cardinals DB coach - 36 years coaching, Zero years played in the NFL.

Sorry, but Bobby Ingram (WR coach) & Chris Hewitt (DB coach) are not getting it done. That's where the coaching change needs to take place.

yup.

just look at our dline.

brooks is working wonders with the you fellas.

Clausen didn't throw any TD's yesterday. He didn't score any points (TD's) but he didn't give up any TD's (INT's) for the other team, either. That should be marked as an improvement, and he will get better as the year winds down. I'd say go with Clausen and keep Renner, somehow on the practice squad, just in case.

6.6 million in dead money to get rid of that bum. That would be the first good move the Ravens have made in quite some time. Next... the coaching staff (not coach Harbaugh) followed by Webb.

Yes the game stunk but the Hawks were playing against for the most part second and third string players. First game we were blown out of. Tell Hensley to zip it! Go Ravens.

I know. I thought this line was ridiculous: "Loss Illustrated Gap Between Ravens and Super Bowl Contender"  Did it really? Long before this loss, I was fully aware that our 3rd stringers were not on the same level as any real contender. When we were at least somewhat healthy, we played a couple SB contenders right down to the wire.

Certainly - but, as far as I understand, it's not the question of whether it's cheaper, but wheher we have the cap space for that. And frankly,  don't see the cap space - but the Flacco-deal's reworking is still ahead, of course, and that can change a lot of things.

The signing of mallet shows me that we really want the #1 pick....Great no more wins this year folks!

With this depleted weaponry, I'm afraid we could have Johnny U in his prime, and it would still not look good...

There was a difference in talent on the field, but there was an even bigger difference in effort. The Seahawks went out there to win a game, the Ravens were only out there due to contractual obligations.

Not sure who mentioned it but I believe what he said is true. Have you seen the buffer we are giving these receivers on the line of scrimmage?! A decent QB can see this and just audible a short route or slant and it's 5-6 yeards easy (and it has happened a lot). And then on top of it they still get beaten deep!! I really think the coaches need to let these CBs know just how badly out of position they are and how horrible the angles they are taking on big plays. That is of course if they even realise it for themselves.

What happened to Webb? He is a joke! And I'm not accepting the injury excuse, lots of guys are coming back from big injuries and playing well.

Maybe it is true. Our defence was just so well rounded in the past that the CBs didn't have to be as good. And of course Reed was patrolling deep as well. Made it easy on these guys

At this point in time, I just don't see how the Ravens can afford to let any Pro Bowl player go. They need to re-sign KO at whatever cost.

Trestman is still the issue. He blew at least 3 games early this season with time management problems. It is easy to put up offensive numbers when you are down/playing from behind/and out of the playoff picture. I'm so down with us finishing in the Top 5 for offense rather than winning. It's not just stats and points that go into vetting a coordinator.
