[News] Late For Work 12/10: Not A Single Raven Leads Fan Pro Bowl Voting

59 posts in this topic

I'm with Doom on this one. Also, hoping that Za'Darius Smith manages to get some impressive highlights against Russell Wilson. Last time he impressed was against Michael Vick and Le'Veon Bell. He's fast and should do well in space. Or rather, that's the one point where he stands out. Because I haven't noticed him in several games. Did he play?

I guess Dumervil knew all too well that his season wouldn't be nearly as prolific as last season the moment Suggs was declared out for the season. Every opponent knew right away that Dumervil is the only genuine pass rusher left on the Ravens' roster - making it rather easy to account for that. If they had to defend two pass rushers coming from the two sides, it would be tricky... but Dumervil is only human, he can only come from one side at a time :)

So in 454 drop backs, there has only been 1 holding penalty called on our opponents. The odds of that are improbable. I think we were victims of the Delfategate "clean-up" efforts in 2015. Brady has to go out on top untarnished. Too bad injuries won't let him get there without an obvious fix in the game.

He did (as I recall, he and Buck Allen are the only two rookies to play in each of our games this season) - he's just not there yet. He has to learn a lot. As far as I know he's making progress - but it would be unfair to expect a mid-round rookie to be an impact player in his rookie season. He'll be fine.

In what way would the refs not calling offensive holding penalties on our opponents help that?

I like him. There were flashes, especially in the Steelers game. That's why I hope he has some more now. But exactly what you're saying, he's still developing as a player and not every outing is worth a mention. We could use the speed against a mobile QB. Also, isn't his arm length equal to the wingspan of a Boeing 747? That's what I noticed last time - you think you're beyond his reach, but too bad... :)

I didn't notice that we were getting so few holding calls. Now that it's been brought to my attention I realise that it's absolutely true. The refs have been looking real inept this year and something needs to be done about it.People spend hundreds of millions betting on teams and buying stadium tickets every year and when the refs influence the game this much it makes it seem like the game is fixed and we're being duped.Unfortunately,as long as the owners are seeing their profits increase every year I doubt Goodell will be held accountable for anything. He's had alot of bad things happen under his watch in the past decade or so that he's been commissioner though.

I agree with Dumerville. I think the officials tend to psychologically favor the better teams. Kind of like how in boxing, to win a championship, you have to knock out the champion; they won't give it to you on points, even if you outbox him.

Or, maybe they're on the take. I don't know.

I never ever bought into the conspiracy theory of NFL/or refs having it in for Baltimore. Couple this year's freaking schedule with NO HOLDING CALLS against our opponents for 10 STRAIGHT GAMES, well, I'm buying now. Not only am I buying, I'm buying OCEAN FRONT ! #ridiculous!

Its about time someone from the ravens said something about these officials... i mean its just ridiculous this year... and anyone who has paid attention to football this year has noticed it... I hate people who whine about officials but i mean even this has gone way too far i mean if you bring up the stats and the penalties that have gone against us it has been ridiculous... And i think this started waaaaayyyyy back in philly during the preseason i knew they would not give us calls this year... i think we had like 22 penaties that game compared to there 3... i mean i remembered we went for 2 that game and konrad rueland had made a cut block and they threw a personal flag penalty on that... it was the same call they called against us last week... i mean you look at the cardinals game this year... Jacksonville... oakland... miami... philly... the first cleveland game... i mean its been absolutely ridiculous this year... and its all across the league this year too i know one team that comes to mind is the bills... i mean they did a terrible job when they went to london when they play new england of all people *wink wink* and in the cheifs game during the two minute drill with terrible spotting... and wat does good ol goodell say? These officials have been extraordinary...

Schedule wasn't really a problem. It's front loaded with road games and back loaded with home games. That's pretty much what Ravens fans have been asking for years.

The reason the schedule looks bad is because the team is bad.

I totally agree with Dumervil and any fan that feels like this is new news just needs to go back to the week we played the Steelers. Remember that pitch play to Le'Veon Bell? K-Lew had him dead-to-rights with a tackle behind the line of scrimmage -- except that Will Johnson jumped on Kendrick's back and tackled him right in front of Bell. The holding happened right in front of the side judge and the back judge was staring right at the action. NO FLAGS. Bell reversed field and scored a TD.

That's the kind of ineptitude Dumervil is referring to.

In a typical season you'll have big calls that go against you and ones that help you out that you kind of know should have gone the other way. But this season seems to be a statistical anomaly. Then you combine that with the fact that we're not the only ones complaining about it, and even teams with winning records are complaining about it, and you know that it's not just sour grapes. Something has gone terribly wrong.

I definitely agree with Dumervil - it's absurd the amount of penalties that are continuously called against the Ravens and not on the opposing team, especially late in games.

In my opinion referee calls are partially dependent on organizational clout-- you won't unfairly call a game against Belichick and Kraft without looking over your shoulder. Harbaugh and Bisciotti might want to bang that table at the summer meetings to say, "WE WILL NOT TAKE THIS AGAIN NEXT SEASON... OR IN ANY OTHER SEASON HENCEFORTH, GET IT RIGHT OR ELSE...".

from the schedule that had 5 of the first 7 games on the road and two west coast trips in that stretch as well, the obvious ignoring of Urschell reporting, the fake PI calls on Will Hill and Daniel Brown, and now the fact of the holding calls coming out. If this circumstantial evidence was brought against Brady he would be guilty, why is it crazy to think this circumstantial evidence points to the NFL deliberately targeting the Ravens to the point of telling the refs to ignore or make up calls. If the circumstantial evidence against Brady is enough, then certainly this circumstantial evidence is just as compelling. Sure, crazy conspiracy stuff but that's what people said about boxing, wrestling and FIFA. We now view those sports as jokes. Wont be long before the NFL is viewed in the same way.

I agree. I don't think some fans actually knew how big of a loss Suggs was going to be. Now they know, it has had a huge effect.

I think it is a combo of:

1. Harbs calls out the refs and the NFL sanctions it but not punishing Harbs - the refs don't like that and are using their own brand of justice to avenge their brothers.

2. Baltimore historically known for complaining (legitimately) about bad calls and calling out the refs. When Harbs first came in he stopped that cold (remember Ray Lewis complaining about the refs at the end of Billick [refs were fixing against us primarily agains the Colts and for Manning at the time, and Cincy too for us at least] and it was big big problem. Harbs shut that talk down, because it was so big the refs were giving us ref justice by not calling for us because we complaiened. It was so big a deal at least to me, I thought that was something Harbs must have said in his interview to get hired.

The first season with Harbs the refs still didn't call for us, and nothing would be said by Harbs or the players that season. Then the second season it started going away, and games were a little more fair, continued to be seemingly normal [aside from Steelers games so they would be heated and close] that ended seemingly in 2014 when Harbs started yelling at the refs even more. Now this season Harbs speaks out against them [biggest was the playoffs where he called them out for not using procedure and letting the Pats quicksnap off confusion substitutions- and he was correct] and we are pounded into the dirt. I don't expect this to let up until Harbs stops and has his players stop saying anything about the refs, even when he is right.

The refs bias is real and being felt.

The schedule looked bad before we found out we had a bad team. It may look worse at this point, but it always looked bad.

With its associations with FanDuel and DraftKings, the NFL needs to get on top of this bad referee issue ASAP. There is so much money hanging on outcomes, it is really starting to look like games are getting fixed. With 11 men on a side it's hard to do that through NFL players, but with a just handful of refs per squad it wouldn't be that tough. We have lost two games absolutely due to bad referee calls (touchdowns taken back that would have provided the game-winning points) and that call on Brown last week was simply ludicrous.

Tucker may be # 2 in his category but Koch deserves to go to the Pro Bowl more than Tucker does. Not necessarily a dig on Tucker but he has not had a good year while Koch is still lighting it up.

I definitely agree with Elvis Dumervil and so does the NFL that's why after every game the NFL sends the Ravens a message saying my bad our refs cost you guys the game there nothing we can do about. The officials are a joke I thought in the NFL everyone was supposed to be professionals I guess not. Go Ravens!!!
