Now give the kid a chance and see what he can do. It cannot be much worse that Mr. Pick 6.

Hope he's been drinking his milk, a little more strength could do him some good. Hope he does well here.

Or he could EARN the chance, which he hasn't. You don't give out starting QB jobs in this league.

I swear A LOT on this forum were touting him as Joe's future replacement because of his one good performance during the 3rd preseason game.  LOL

The QB equivalent of Aaron Mellette...

Calm down big man, everybody got an opportunity at some point..... He had a good preseason and the other two have not proven to be solid performers.

And obviously, Schaub and Clausen have proven exponentially more than Renner ever has in this league. I mean Renner's single greatest accomplish was a decent preseason showing one time. That's not proving anything.

If I thought Renner were better than Schaub, then I'd have expected Renner to beat out Schaub for the backup job in training camp, which he had every possible opportunity to do. Obviously the franchise would have preferred this, since they would have to pay a whole lot less for a backup, so its not like there's some sort of biased agenda here.

He's on the PS. The only way he plays is with multiple injuries.

Schaub and Claussen have really earned their chances lol. It wouldn't hurt to see what the kid can do against playoff contenders to see if we have our future backup but I'd give him at least a week or 2 to get reacclimated to the offense. Maybe against Pitt and Cincy after we're officially eliminated

I have to agree. Even though Sclub is doing poorly Renner might get us in a dangerous situation for rest of our players if he cannot stay on the field for more than a minute.

Well, Schaub certainly did anyway. He performed at a high level for multiple years in Houston, and most importantly, he beat out Renner for the gig he got.

So, yes, he earned the role of backup. And the guy that earns the role of backup earns the role of starter when the starter gets injured.

To be frank, at this point I think Schaub would be more than happy to have someone replace him as starter. He'll get paid either way and really wouldn't gain anything by continuing to play(he's already met his escalators I think?) If the FO and and coaching staff believe he won't improve they may be willing at some point over the next 4 weeks to take a flyer with Clausen or Renner. It's possible and I don't think that big of a stretch.

I liked Renner in the pre-season, reminded me of Flacco in his first debut.  Stayed calm during a 2 minute drill and got the TD.  With time and practice he could be good.  I'm glad we resigned him, even if it is to the PS.

He could be up on the active roster tomorrow if Schaub can't go.  We need a 2nd QB and he'd be the only option.

If we're not sure about Matt we need to put him on the bench and put Bryn in. I don't expect Clausen to finish the game.

And he's up:

Guard Kaleb Johnson has been cut. So Monroe to IR, Johnson cut; Bryn Renner and Chris Matthews to active roster
