[News] Late For Work 12/8: Future Of Ravens Left Tackle Position In Doubt?

81 posts in this topic

Unfortunately, we're stuck with Monroe heading into 2016. But we will be drafting at that position thanks to his softness. And he is truly soft.

When Osemele came into the league he was a Tackle. With experience now under his belt, I wonder if they've considered trying him at left tackle, at least in practice.

We need to draft a tackle in the top 3 rounds or find a gem later. Monroe isn't bad when he's on the field, but that's as rare a sighting as an albino buck deer. The protection from the outside of the OL on Sunday was atrocious and I don't care if they're protecting Matt Schaub or the ghost of Johnny Unitas, that can't happen. After all, Joe Flacco is also out because one of our tackles fell on him. Someone durable that can maul them the way Yanda and KO can do on the inside. I'd really really want Ravens to keep KO on the inside, if there's a way to do it that won't hurt us elsewhere. I suppose, having a nickname "Buck" is a good indication if someone is a stud. Both of ours are. Buck Allen got me 23 fantasy points and he was a joy to look at second game running. And Buck (Daryl) Smith is the top ranking defensive player for the Ravens from Sunday. He's getting slower in zone, but otherwise he's all over the place and a good tackler.

Man Monroe doesnt have a tough bone in his body. He takes the day off when he stubs his pinky. He needs to look at Yanda to see how a real football player does it. Monroe has proven time and time again he can not be relied upon and should be second string next year. His legacy will be that he has no legacy.

OK.... the PFF Grades.... now I can actually say that I can discount them as being somewhat of a non-factor for me... Giving Crockett a -2 when he goes down in the first quarter with an injury wouldn't necessarily constitute a negative grade in my book. Just sayin guys.

I knew this season wouldn't be that good and is why I was very upset about our season being thrown away with that very very very bad pass against the pats! "NONE" of the things happening this season would hurt as much if the Ravens won that SB last season because it was rite there for the taking! We need WRs and O Linemen and another "MOBILE" QB with an arm, especially since Joe is having surgery and will "NEVER" run the ball in such a physical division where they will go after him surrounding him and getting plenty of sacks! Smh pocket passing QBs in a league where the D Line are so big and "FAST" you need wheels on your QB to take pressure off the O Linemen because they can't hold these dudes forever or do some think the Ravens are the only team that can get to the QB and no one else can! Smh

Interesting choice of words from Harbs whether Monroe "wants to play" vs saying whether Monroe is "able to play". The former seems to imply that Monroe is able to take the field but may be choosing not to. Playing through pain vs playing which would cause further injury are 2 completely different things. Either way, Monroe has not been coming through for the team and I think Harbs does question whether Monroe "wants" to play.

I know ... perhaps he didn't mean it that way, but coaches generally are careful in how they choose their words when speaking publicly. You can't help but hear that and think Harbaugh may be challenging his toughness.

Monroe is an issue... But if you don't have a good replacement I would say we should keep him. We also have Hurst who might not be the best LT but he is still young. I think we have more pressing needs in the draft. About Williams... have you forgotten how bad he looked at times when he was with us?

The future is bright, we have lost so many starters due to injury, yet the youngsters are playing at a high level, and giving us a chance in every game, where as many team with there starters are getting blown away.....Some of the best coaching i have seen, this team could have easily folded, and no one would blame us with the injuries we have sustained at key positions, but the coaches have had these "back-ups" playing their guts out for the full 60 minutes, at a high level, against other teams starters.....

We don't need a new starting LT... we just need to upgrade the depth at our tackle spots.

Exactly... all canty did for his tenure here was sit on the sideline or play hurt... he came back this season and is on a tear... When we pay a dude 40 million and its only injuries thats holding him back... im willing to wait... we need a better replacement because hurst can move his feet at all and cant time a punch at all

Our depth really improved this season i remember coming out of the preseason that was our weakness that if something like what happened this season happened where everyone gets hurt will we survive... Weve competed soo well and had talent performing at an adequate level we just arent coming up with wins

First time in almost a decade where I find myself thinking "ugh, why can't it be the offseason already!"

I guess all we can do is take consolation in the fact that the remaining 4 are playoff contenders, so we've got some Decembers to ruin.

Let's go spoils someone's Holidays!

I don't think we're looking to get rid of Monroe next year. The article is merely saying that the combination of how much time he's missing and who we have filling in for him isn't going to work going forward. After all, we just can't have our franchise QB exposed to such inexperience on the blind side and one could argue that is exactly why Joe is on IR right now.

As for Williams ... fans love to fixate on former players returning, especially ones that were a part of a Super Bowl Championship. Memories become selective ... Our CB rotation has actually been respectable of late. I don't see any point in bringing him in.

I will take watching the guys play all day every day, than go through the long miserable off-season, where everyone becomes a GM and wants to be Oz for 4 months....;)

I know.  First time in a looooong time that I am not having to schedule my January around the playoffs.  Sadly,  I don't think we'll be spoiling anyone's holiday except our own.

First of all...like I said in another post...I am a COMPLETE idiot...

On sunday I wasn't able to locate the blue lot (better, I thought it was somewhere and when I didn't see enough ravens supporters I gave up and got inside the stadium) until when up on the escalators I saw the purple cloud of people...DAMN IT!!!

On the team needs...I firmly believe PASS RUSHER(s) is the most glaring and blatant need we do have...

Everybody knows a good pass rush helps TREMENDOUSLY guys in the back, because one thing is having to cover a guy for 2 seconds (Jimmy Smith, Shareece Wright and Webb can do that, and don't forget Will Davis who was playing lights out for a couple of games before killing his knee) a totally different animal is keeping track of a guy for 4 or 5 or even more...

Left tackle has DEFINITELY become an issue due to the lack of dependability of Monroe, we should be able to pick something good in the 2nd or 3rd (I wouldn't wait too much because later rounds often need one year limbo before being able to be thrown into full time game duties)

Honestly doubt SSS will come back, so we will need to scour another veteran free agent WR (though I'm fairly happy with what I've seen from Aiken and Butler lately)

I don't know how much of this makes sense LOL I just felt the need to write...

1. Get over the Ravens loss to the Pats.  Even if they beat the Pats it wasn't guaranteed that they would have beat Indy and then the Seahawks in the SB.

2.  Remind me again about the "wheels" that Rothleisberger has?  He had his best year last year and on pace this year to have another great year.  He's far from mobile or a QB with wheels.

To be honest, I don't see too many ways where we would have beaten the Seahawks last season. Get to the SB? Sure, but I didn't see us winning it.

Also not a given we would have beaten Indy in their building, though I liked our chances a lot better there.

just looking at PFF grades, Hurst is horrible. I didn't need PFF to tell me that, it is just confirmation of what I saw. I think we need to try something else before the line is responsible for someone's death. Monroe is a waste. Say what you want, he is soft and the comment Harbaugh made about it being a decision involving the agent tends to make me think the Ravens have laid notice that if he misses the remainder of the year, the Ravens will eat his salary and he will be gone. The Ravens are giving the agent time to talk sense into Monroe and tell him to quit being soft and play. Cary Williams played well in the Ravens system. Actually he was a shutdown corner for us. How anyone can say that he is not an improvement over Webb is crazy. He may not have played well in the systems he was in, but he played well in our system and having a warm body who will play in front of Tray Walker is not a bad thing, regardless of what the pundits think.

It's weird accepting the fact that we're not relevant this season going into December. I'm watching games to develop an idea on what 2016 may look like and with these young players developing early the next 2-4 years could go very well. Left OT, interior linemen with KO's departure, DBs, pass rushers, QB depth, and explosive receivers are all areas of need IMHO. I'll give the team credit for playing very hard and fighting to the end of every game. I think that's been a big factor in everyone still being interested despite the record. GO Ravens!

I went to the game in Miami. First and foremost Hats off to the loyal Raven following!!! Way more of us then Dolphin fans. Even on T.V my sister in law said that the "Chant" could be heard over everything. There was a huge sea of purple. Congrats to us!! As for the game, I can tell you it was a very bad officiated game. I was sitting at the end zone (field level) on the 4th and about 6 inches down and must say that it was a very bad spot. It was for sure a first down. Of course there was no replay shown being we were the visiting team, but sitting there it was a no brainer but not called. As for the phantom Pass Interference on Brown? That's just a 'Cmon Man" never happened, the guy just fell down. No replay was shown on the so called Off sides Kick six either but I didn't see it. All in all the worst officiated game I have ever attended, but had a lot of fun with ALL my fellow Raven fans!!We travel well!
