Nah they're there for the same reason they use the black strip under the eye (to reduce glare). But they also do what the tinted visors do, and make it easier to differentiate colours, so you can see the ball more easily.

They aren't contacts. He's albino so theres no pigments in his iris so thats just the blood inside his eye.

I thought BRob used them to keep out the sun when trying to bring in a fly ball... Plus, if I recall correctly, Brian would only put them on after batting practice if the sun was really a problem; I'm not sure why KVB would use the contacts on a cloudy, rainy day.
