Boyd has a DUI is the point I'd assume but I thought Gordon's real problem was weed.

Exactly. As far as I can remember the DUI is the only flag for Boyd, which is why I don't think of him as someone with baggage.

ray Lewis was convicted of obstruction of justice in a double homicide, people make mistakes, shouldn't condemn everyone for one mistake in their younger years

Having met Boyd he's not the sharpest tack in the box so I wouldn't shocked if it turned into an issue when he got a lot of money but I'd take the risk.

I've mentioned this before. I think if anyone can help him it's Engram.

There's probably plenty of people in the NFL who are stupid but don't commit crimes. Just saying

I meant sharpest tack compared to the collective group of football players I've met. He just didn't strike me as a great decision maker but we'll see. Still love him as a player.

You go to Pittsburgh lol. One of the better schools in the country. Most of the football players probably have some varying degree of intelligence.

He's young, and we have his old mentor. I believe he can learn, and I think if he's there in round two Engram will vouch for him hard.

He's worth the gamble. He's honestly the potential missing piece.

Lol, when you can play football well the teachers turn a blind eye to your grades. Remember the guy who got an A- on the 3 sentence essay?

Yeah a lot of the football players get to use calculators and get extra time in math classes lol

For real. We stuck with Ray throughout his entire career and it obviously paid dividends. I feel like we really missed out on some talented kids since Rice's incident even though we've always been the team for second chances and it usually works out. Harbs and company need to not worry so much about baggage anymore or what the media and fans think and select a damn good player when the time comes.

No, it's just a well known fact that star players often get really favorable treatment grading wise.

Here's an example: http://m.startribune.com/fake-classes-inflated-grades-unc-scandal-included-athletes-over-2-decades/280072212/

Aaron hernandez was convicted of double homicide. Like i can goball day and im pretty sure my list is bigger than yours

Ppl who do this stuff arent drafted for a reason. Either the coaches veto it, the owner vetos it or the gm just doesnt draft those type of players. Givem ray rice and increased scrutiny on character which camp do you think ozzie (and most gms) fall into?

Ths team needs a lot more help than a wide receiver

You're right, but in round two if Boyd is there you pull the trigger. He's one of the safe picks in the draft.

yeah and ray rice was the second coming of Jesus before he punched his way out of the league. You can't accurately predict how someone will act, but you can make an educated guess based on actions taken after the incident. If engram knows he is a good kid who made one dumb mistake that many youngsters make, then who are we to say he's wrong? He would know better than you or anyone . the ravens for that matter, and considering he could be the true #1 we have lacked for so long, it's beyond worth it In the second

No but if the warning signs are there, you don't touch him. Tends to work out a lot more than it costs ya. La'el Collins? He wasn't even involved and the situation tanked his stock completely.

Ppl who drafted Gordon thought that too. Didn't work out too well for them. All of this is based on the assumption that the coach would sign off on or recommend the kid. Even then the owner has to sign off on it. Even then, I hardly think our receiver coach is qualified to evaluate anything given how bad the position is on this team outside of Steve Smith (sorry but we just don't have/develop good ones and its why we usually need outside help at the position - Boldin, SSS). Last part was a bit of a tangent but you get my point.

If Boyd drops to round 2, then 32 GMs (31 really cause of the Pats losing the picks), don't believe his talent is worth the concerns of his character. Kind of the opposite of safe especially if you have a ton of talent.

you can't have a team full of saints, no team has a 53 man roster with a spotless track record, do people forget suggs was also caught up in a DV case? Jernigan was thought to have been hiding illegal substances, Terrence West was known as a ignorant uncoachable kid. All rosters are gonna have some blemishes, its how the team can manage, not every dui offender is Justin blackmon or aldon Smith.

I know but I'm talking about Pitt athletes in particular because I've witnessed the example I mentioned.

Oh, got confused, thought it was sarcasm, lol

And I'm pretty sure there's a few NFL teams that regret letting our very own Timmy Jernigan(who had alleged drug problems and failed a test at the combine) slide right past them(some of them twice), because he has become a pretty good player if I do say so myself. I thought of him as the same way for a prospect and was literally ecstatic when we got him. This was after the Ray Rice thing too. Or what about when we got Will Hill? He had character problems?

Or kept Taliafero after his DUI? We let Pierce go because he was going to be the odd man out anyway. I think the front office, specifically Trestman, valued Buck with high regard, and I thought we were going to take a RB in the 3rd or 4th with or without Pierce. He was just a disappointment for us, and we could honestly afford to lose a guy with little cap implication anyway. Same reason I think we cut Taliafero. I think West is going to be a good change of pace for us.

Hell, Terrance West had character concerns and we signed him a few weeks ago?

But back to Boyd. Has it ever been a massive problem in the past before this one occurence? No, this hasn't. And honestly I see him as a lower first round talent anyway. He's my #4 WR when doing extensive scouting. He lacks elite athletic ability. That's the real reason teams will pass on him. And even if he isn't smart, I'm sure he knows not to make that dumb choice again if he has half a brain. We've taken on people with concerns in the past, and a few post the Ray Rice thing. Now if he hit a woman, we won't take him. We're still viewed as the team who kept him.

Add in the fact that we have the man that recruited him, and honestly, this makes way too much sense if he's there.

He has been suspended for both at different times.

Justin Blackmon is another troubled WR you could attempt to sign (assuming neither is franchised, which the Browns may very well do with Gordon). They need to be cleared for reinstatement first. Hell, you could also bring in Daryl Washington too while you're at it (assuming he's cut). And Aldon Smith (who will be suspended for the first 10 games I believe). And Greg Hardy if someone really had no morals. If this was the old days of football the Raiders and Bengals would have a pretty sweet team.

I don't know if Oz or Steve would want the headache of having to babysit someone really irresponsible, but there is going to be a surprising amount of useful FAs out there for those willing to take the risk/PR hit.

man, blackmon makes me so mad, one of the most gifted, well rounded, complete receivers I've ever seen, and he is truly a head case... I would love to see what could've been
