Boyle suspended 4 games for PEDs

94 posts in this topic

Anyone remember that scene in "My Cousin Vinny" where he says, "Is there any more ---- we can pile into this situation? Can we possibly add anything more to this?"

That's how I feel about the Ravens season.

It's laughable at this point.  Theres only 4 weeks left, but by 2015 Ravens standards, that's like 10 more injuries, 15 blown calls, 4 more Tucker 50 yard + misses,  and probably a contagious virus that reaches the whole team.

What a dumb thing to do.

you JUST started your professional career and you done goofed! Whether Boyle is going to be great later in his career, he is always going to have that steroid label on his back.

A damn shame, b/c he has such promise.

Get your act straight Boyle!

Seriously.

What is the longest we have gone this season without loosing someone in one way or another?

Ten days? Two weeks at the most with out loosing someone?

What's Dallas Clark up to these days?

Maybe now Todd Heap is finally healthy again...

(someone else already mentioned Bajema)

So should we kick the tires on Visanthe Shiancoe again...?

Oh!

I know who we should sign

.

Maybe we should keep pitta next year. These guys have a lot of potential but they've all been pretty banged up and been up and down all year. Now this? We know we can rely on Dennis.

Is Waller out for the year?  I believe he is, but not sure.  There was talk earlier in the season regarding him possibly converting to TE.

The season is what it is.  Time to let it run its course and look forward to next year.   Maybe we can use the draft and begin to rebuild into another championship team.  Just might take some time to get there.

Unfortunate, but that's how the season is going for us.

Harbaugh did say we are already bringing a few guys in. I saw Harold Spears came in today but that's the only name I've seen. I can't say I've even heard of the guy.

I'm honestly not sure if you are being sarcastic and whether you are being serious or whether you simply are ignorant on the type of drug Adderall is. It is a category II controlled substance (drug), which means it is on the same level as codeine, morphine, methadone, oxycodone, and methamphetamine. This means that these drugs can lead to severe physical or psychological dependence. It requires a prescription to obtain it, which if done legally, is perfectly fine and the NFL has no issue with this, as we should all know with Asa Jackson. Asa's problem was he never got the prescription, which would also be Boyle's problem should he actually require it.

Making this legal without a prescription in the NFL would be like making morphine or methamphetamine legal without a prescription. First of all, it's against the law. That's probably a pretty important part of the criteria right there. Second of all, it's very addictive and you don't want a bunch of guys wired beyond belief all the time, like could happen if it's abused.

I seriously hope that was a joke or a failed attempt of me to pick up on sarcasm. I'll assume it was sarcasm because you seem pretty smart.

Like good old Lawrence Taylor. Perfect example of how someone super wired can be beyond dangerous.

If you mean rely on Dennis to blow out his hip trying to plant and turn upfield again, then yes, I agree.

We know we can rely on Dennis (to retire)..

freaking Adderall. I have ADD. I've played sports my whole life..and took Adderall. It doesn't help. It helped me in school more than in sports..

No confirmation that it was Adderall. Could have been Sudafed.

Yeah, the comments on Adderall probably made it look like he was caught for it, but there's no confirmation on what he tested positive. It could be anything for all we know.

Obviously I don't know what he took. But if my memory is right some of the banned things are found in places like GNC right on the shelf and I honestly don't understand how over the counter supplements that a prescription is not needed can be banned. Like I said if my memory is correct.

I mean at this point, its sort of irrelevant what he tested positive for. There's really not many valid excuses to test positive for anything these days.

Because OTC supplements, particularly stuff you buy at GNC, can contain ingredients that are banned. There are banned ingredients that are found in common OTC supplements that are also used as masking agents for steroid use, hence why they are banned.

Moot point though, because there's really no possible reason why a professional athlete making large quantities of money should be walking into a nutrition store and grabbing OTC products without consulting a doctor first or at least having a good understanding of what they can and can't take.

I have zero doubt that 32 NFL teams and probably most college programs have a list of common OTC supplements and medications that are banned by their governing bodies due to certain ingredients being banned.

Yeah, I agree. It's just a matter of clearing up misconceptions and possible jumping-to-conclusions that may result as a consequence of speculation pertaining to the performance enhancing drug (PED) he consumed.

I'm in the Army and I was informed not to consume the Strong & Kind bars due to their use of hemp seeds as an ingredient because we can test positive for marijuana use as a consequence. It honestly could be something as simple as that. We should always try to avoid jumping to conclusions without all the facts being present, else we may find ourselves embarrassed when we learn the truth. I have no idea the circumstances of Boyle's failed test, but until I learn them, I won't call him an idiot.

Thank you I understand it better now.

Right, but to me, we should be long past the jumping to conclusions aspect anyway.

I treat the guy who got popped for anabolic steroid usage the same as the guy using adderall or any of the other dozens of substances players use nowadays and claim they have legitimate reasons for.

I simply don't care.

Will people just stop!! Many players in the NFL are juicing!! He is just a rookie and got caught. It is a competitive league. Look at facts. QBs are throwing with more velocity at near 40 than at 24. Does anybody think that is natural?? Look at the difference in size of players today compared to years ago!! If fans really believe peds are not a huge staple of the NFL then fans need to get their mind outa the mustard!! The rookie just needs to be more careful and not get caught. Where do you think Antonio Gates resurgence came from?? And Mathis!! Players either use them early to make nfl or later in careers to extend good play. Aderall is just a cover.
