[News] Late For Work 12/7: You Won't See A Worse Blown Call By Refs All Year

110 posts in this topic

At the rate of blown calls this year, across the league, they will have to have every call review able .....They missed the obvious face mask on the very next play after the Brown blown call. They twice allowed Schaub to be cut at the legs...Never seen so many obvious missed calls in a season league wide than i have this year....But the league is going to smoke screen it with the Schaub concussion protocol.....Oh well, play on fellas, i do enjoy watching how you guys just never quit...

Per Michele Tafoya, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says Jacoby Jones is "done" after mishandling two kicks in first half.

This isn't news worthy, I think we all knew that!  Love what Jacoby did for the organization, but it may be time for him to hang them up.

One measure that IMO would help the officials is to follow this credo: If you didn't see 100% clearly what you think MIGHT be a penalty ... then keep your flag in your pocket. Err on the side of not inserting yourself into the game. A play that had a penalty that wasn't called isn't IMO nearly as annoying or disruptive as a flag on a ticky tack violation or, worse yet, a foul that was absolutely non-existent.

I don't tune into games to watch officials pick up a ball and walk it 15 yards this way or that way. I tune into games to watch amazing athletes play an amazing game.

LET THEM PLAY.

Help me remember, were the replacement refs of a few years back THIS bad?

They were bad but at least we saw they were trying. You almost have to work hard to be THIS bad.

Justin Tucker is becoming cheaper by every week

I was wondering just that. Does this make it easier or harder at the discussion table?

NFL Referees work for a billion dollar employer but only work part time. They should be full time NFL employees. They should get Monday off during the season but report to New York Tues-Thursday for film study, rule reviews and etc. Friday or Saturday should be travel day. The schedule would need adjusted for Thursday and Monday game crews , but can be done. During the off season they should be involved with rule changes and studying film , rules. During the off season other training should be attended weekly such as medical (IE concussion) awareness.

Owners are just as accountable as the league, as every year they go down to Florida and vote on new rules....I don't know how many times this year i hear the announcers say how some calls were ridiculous, but how the rules are interpreted it was the correct call....

I imagine harder. Remember Billy Cundiff?? He had a great year or two with us and got a decent (for a kicker) contract and then flopped. Do the Ravens give a big contract based off of the last two years, or do they back off based on the last 6 or so games being a trend??

I think it creates a situation where - unless Tucker and his agent are willing to accept a pretty team friendly deal (which they likely won't), then we're on our way to a franchise tag.

After getting burned with Cundiff, they are going to want to see another year from him to prove he can get back to his previous form before committing long term.

Every player has up and down years. To even consider sitting down at the "discussion table" about the future of Justin Tucker makes me relieved that we the fans don't make front office decisions. That guy would get scooped up in a hurry if Bmore ever let him go. Some people just don't see the talent we have. If a player stinks it up for a few weeks or a year, we're ready to cut him, jeez.

Can we just put Jimmy Clausen in for the rest of the year and be done with Schaub already. While you're at it, get rid of Trestman too. That guy makes offensive drives lethargic

I would love to sign Mallet and see if his cannon of a arm works with this offense.....Nothing to lose, lets start auditioning certain position players....And i will say West is going to give TF a run for his money next year, Harbs loves how violently he runs, and so do i.....Would love to see KO get reps at LT at some point...Just a lot of experimenting the coaching staff can do now...

Don't agree on getting rid of Trestman now, but I do agree that I see little point in rolling Schaub out there. I believe that Hensley is right ... Schaub should not be retained as Flacco's backup. If that's the case, then what's is the point?

The epidemic of the pick 6 is clearly not going away - it appears to now just be a part of his DNA. Just put someone - anyone - else out there who may have a shot at being a future backup and see what we get.

Another silver lining is that we aren't playing meaningful games that relate to a playoff push. It only really hurts those looking to gain that status. I think the ref's stink and have stunk for years. This is an all time low for there season and against multiple teams. Only stands to reason that the Nfl front office will have to address the issues and now must include their lack of timely attention to player safety. Concussion protocol has to be taken seriously or the game of football will have a premature death. The movie will surely set the wheels turning. And the debate has already begun.

Referees are obviously not functioning properly for some reason or other. Could it be betting on games themselves? Shaub is finished and Clausen should be starter next week just to see if he is worth his weight in salt or not. Season pretty much a done deal so it could be used for information purposes. We should also try out several others in games coming up yet. We are pretty much in pre-season mode now. Good news is there were no points off our defense yesterday down in MIami. All were off those two volleyball passes of Shaub. Tucker has changed a lot since getting married. I guess marriage does that. He sure has lost his edge.

One of the bright spots was seeing Daniel Brown getting some opportunities. Daniel was robbed of his first NFL TD. Still mad about that bad call. On another pass, Daniel was awesome and shucked that defender right off of him like a gnat. Let's keep this kid on the field and see if he develops in to something special...we need a tough WR like Daniel and he has the raw materials, the size, hands and strength to be a real good WR.
