The good, BAD and Ugly Week 13

I do hope they put the phantom penalty on Brown up on the site tomorrow. I think we all need to vent a little bit about it.

Agreed. But looking at how we sit this season... just let the refs go nuts on us this year and get it out of their system so next year they can pick on someone else lol

Look at our 2015 draft class, only ONE player has played well. At this rate we risk turning into a Browns like team.

If we start firing coaches, drafting players with off field issues, and changing QBs yearly... you maybe right (doubt it but maybe)

We have pieces on the offense. A few of them are just really young.

Maxx

Crockett

Boyle

Buck looks good

I think West > Tal

Potentially Perriman.

Hell Juice is a weapon and a pretty good run blocker.

That's not including SSR if he comes back, Forsett, and Givens if we resign him. In addition to Aiken.

We have pieces. The key contributors are freaking hurt.

The pieces are here to have a good offense. We need depth on the oline badly. Hurst sucks. I like Jensen and Urschel as the backups. Monroe is good when healthy but he hasn't been the past two seasons(I think that the turf thing solves that problem tbh). I'd look for a backup swing tackle, and maybe another OG in the draft.. And if Tunsil or Stanley are there I'd take either of them.

Honestly the offenses' problems are overblown.

Man, I've never seen a team that could potentially turn it around super quickly as us. If we make some good moves we're back in the hunt next year. It's clear injuries are the primary issue

Well said and I agree 100%

Some people talking like we need to blow up the team and start over yet we're in every game using backups and too often backups to the backups

Well, looking forward to yet another apology from the NFL saying how the PI call was incorrect and should have been ruled a touchdown. Just another win wiped away by the officials and a young mans first NFL touchdown stolen from him. No biggy.

Atleast The niners and the Titans won.

Every game has missed or bad calls but it is insane how many hit our team that cost us dearly. Someone should get a list of them together that we can just keep adding to (since it seems like they will keep happening). Perhaps the refs just want us to have a top 5 draft pick?

ravens are currently projected at sixth, but if all the teams in front of Baltimore, excluding Cleveland, win one more game (Dallas, Jax, Tenn, and SD), there's a very good chance the Ravens end up with the second overall pick. Given the tough slate of games the Ravens have to close out on, it's almost assured the Ravens lose out and finish with a top 5 pick, at the very worst

I'm hoping for a LT soooooo bad, not sexy but needed

I'm not gonna lie, I started to laugh when I saw how excited Terrence Brooks was to return that blocked kick for a (would-be) TD. Man, you know he wants to see the field more.....badly.

Yeah lol and he tried to strip the ball out of Will Hill's hands on the kick-six last week. He wants an opportunity SO bad. It's tough seeing Kendrick Lewis over him, who probably won't even be on the team next year. Although he did finally make a play today... A play...

How are they starters?

Taliaferro is a scrub!! And Campanaro is awesome if he could stay injury free. He is very intelligent and if he could play the whole year he would really start putting together routes that make defenses look bad. He is Edelman with far more outside speed and athletic ball skills. I personally know of a cornerback that said Campanaro is one of the toughest players he ever covered. He said he was warned about Campanaros speed and suddenness but did not believe it until he played him. Campanaro will get even better if he plays as he learns to read coverage on the fly and put double moves and routes together to set up defensive backs. But he needs to play of course!!

I'll say it again:

The chickens have come to roost. All the years of neglecting our QB. Flacco's Demise was having no weapons and no O-line. Looks like Schuab's demise is gonna be the same thing. Front office doesn't learn. They stopped learning long ago.

The interceptions in this game had nothing to do with WRs and don't ignore that injuries depleted the team this year. The RT is coming off a foot injury and the LT can't stay healthy.

Yes, better receivers would help but to point at the front office is misguided. Look at the player and coaching turnover in just the past three years. I believe injuries combined with player and coaching turnover has more to do with the season record than the lack of top WR. The OL is just injured like much of the top talent, Suggs, Smith, Forsett, Zuttah etc.

I read somewhere that the NFL is investigating whether or not we properly handled the schaub situation where he may have gotten a concussion. As bad as our luck is I wouldn't be surprised if something happened and they dock us our first round pick. That would be the final capping on this horrible nightmare.

yeah they're not. talioferro could have potentially been the starter after forsett broke his arm, and campanaro might have been a number 2 after all the injuries at receiver but even then I doubt it.

The Good: Allen - quite a performance. Of course, it will be interesting to see what the run game can do when we face a better run D.

The Bad: Yes, it was a 55 yarder - those are not gimmies. But 50+ yard FGs is what made Tucker special, what set him apart from his competition and is what was supposed to make him the highest paid kicker in the NFL. It is not just yesterday's miss, but the collective misses from long range that is causing concern.

The Ugly: Brown having his first pro TD stolen away from him. Refs in no position to make a call and allow a slip on the field to have them assume a push. Refs Credo: When in doubt (especially if it is a Raven), throw a flag.

GOOD:

1. The defense totally dominated Miami's offense.  They only gave up 7 points on a TD catch that was well defended and virtually unstoppable.

2. Buck Allen:  He was a total force yesterday.  As much as I love Forsett, I could see him being cut based off Ozzie's 80/20 rule. I'd prefer that we keep him as a viable backup to Allen.  But we need to go with a youth movement in a lot of areas and RB is one of them.

BAD:

1. Pass protection - The O-Line did a horrible job protecting Schaub while passing.  He was literally getting killed out there. I'm sure he's second guessing stepping into the starting role after getting demolished yesterday.

2. The drive killing penalties that always seem to kill our momentum.

The UGLY:

I'm never one to complain about the officiating, but it's truly getting out of hand. I don't know what Goodell's plan is to fix this never ending problem, but it better be a good one.  I don't think we'll see a change, until they make a horrible mistake in a post-season game.

Let me chime in on some of this....

The Bad and Ugly to me.....for most of the game the offense does virtually nothing with the football when the defense is dominating and getting them the ball back time and time again.  And oh yeah.....Matt "Pick 6" Schaub!  Smh!

A mash unit O-line.

A mash unit QB.

A mash unit WR corp

And only one TE most of the game.

Plus a horrible offensive PI call that wiped away a TD!

You can't expect too much from your offense when that's what they have to deal with.

You mentioned none of these things in your "bad" from your post though! :D

I don't buy into that line of thought perse cause this is the same rag-tag offense from Monday Night versus the Browns and they had numerous times to take control of the game vs the Dolphins and they didn't do it.  They couldn't even get 4th & inches remember?

I didn't mention them in my BAD section b/c I didn't have high expectations of the offense considering what they're working with.  If we put a mediocre product on the field and they basically play that way, I'm not going to call them bad. They played as expected. Did you honestly think Schaub was going to light it up?  That being said, he threw for 300 and Buck dominated, they just didn't get it in the endzone.

Yes I remember they couldn't get it on 4th and inches, but don't act like we've always converted on 4th and very short when we had Flacco, Rice, Leach, Boldin and Torrey at our disposal. They were stopped more than I care to remember as well.

As far a Schaub's performance goes it is the Offensive Coordinators job to call plays that require a quick release to prevent sacks/hurry ups. Schaubs release is much quicker than Flaccos. We only threw one long pass yesterday like we were snake bit on the interference call. In Schaub's defence there were only a couple of over the middle passes... what were we thinking when we had first down on the Dolphins 15 yard line (run through the middle/screen over the middle/swing pass) all which failed, no throw into the endzone. It was as we were playing for the field goal. We are lacking the killer instinct. D played good enough to win but that Dean Pees, no blitzing Tannehill? What were we thinking, that kid gets rattled by preasure.

I just don't get the play calling on O and D.

No offense to you is intended here but I believe you have misunderstood me.

First, I already know the product that the Ravens have on the field.  It was mediocre as you called it to me for weeks this season prior to Flacco, Smith, Sr. and Forsett going down.  Second, I've always despised this offense's inability to gains short yardage....always!  And, no one expected Schaub to light it up again as you say....especially me who has been constantly calling him Matt "Pick 6" Schaub in multiple threads on these boards.  But do I expect the Ravens rag-tag offense to score points when they constantly get opportunities to do so?  Hell yeah! :D

I think we're on the same page, just stating it differently.

You, like me were probably wondering exactly what level of suck the offense would be after Flacco went down. LOL

the good news is that tucker has played himself out of a big contract.

Not going to waste more cap...

the other good news is that looking at the schedule going forward we are a lock for the 5th pick or less.

the rest of the teams that are at 4 wins play each other
