Are there any players with off-the-field issues you'd take?

Title pretty much says it all...

I'm currently looking at Noah Spence the DE/OLB from Eastern Kentucky who used to play for Ohio State but was dismissed after testing positive for ecstacy. 6'3" 261lbs, seems to be a decent athlete and did well at Ohio State. As with all players with drug issues its all about the interviews and whether you can confirm if they've kicked it or not. Just someone to look at for our 2nd or 3rd pick if we don't take an OLB early.

As far as Spence goes, its good that he'll be pushed down b/c of those off the field issues because he needs some work, too often he just tries to speed around the tackles rather than trying any sort of move, this leads to him way overshooting the QB at times and ending up 5 yards behind the QB. He's not a guy I would look at as a possible first round pick for us as he probably would be if he hadn't been dismissed from OSU but in the second or third I think he may be worth a look if he's kicked the drugs, one can only hope.

Tyler Boyd had a DUI

Bosa got suspended for one game mysteriously.

yeah but those are minor things that everyone knows about, I'm talking about players that either have either have done something more serious or have a pattern, i.e. Dorial Green-Beckham didn't do anything particularly serious but he had a pattern.

Our FO now has experience with Will Hill - they should be able to make fairly accurate assessment on Spence, if they are interested. He's a pretty good player, I wouldn't be opposed giving him a chance if he checks out. Which round - I have no idea though.

Spence was first guy that came to mind was a great player at Ohio State very athletic probably needs a little work separating from blockers when engaged but I liked him there but havent seen anything nice he was dismissed from the team but in reading he has been disruptive I believe 17.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. I would gamble on him especially with our nasty from 7

Most experts have him as a low 2nd 3rd round pick I would assume with the issues 3rd would be a more accurate assessment Edited by Wildabeast88

One time positive test for ecstasy in a college student is a non issue for me. It's college, these kids are gonna do college things, and that's a very common college thing that often leads to nothing more than a hangover. Same goes for one positive test for weed, multiple times is an issue, but once always gets there benefit of the doubt for me. I haven't looked into spence but I've heard good things, and if he can bring some edge rush then I'll gladly look past something like that

tested positive for it twice actually, still don't think its a huge issue but would rather be completely sure he's clear of it now

DeMarcus Robinson, depending on what he did.

Likely wouldn't spend anything more than a 7th though. He should just go back for his senior season and prove he can go an entire year without getting in trouble.

testing positive twice doesn't show A drug problem as some people like to believe(many people don't seem to be very educated about drugs), however it shows a pattern of poor decision making, and that one extra positive test is often a foreshadowing of players partying their way out of the league. I've never seen stats on it, but I'll bet there's a drastic difference between the results of drafting players with 1 offense vs 2 offenses

From my understanding he decided to leave osu for the draft and changed his mind and went to EKU where he gets weekly drug tests and has been clean for a while. I love his pass rushing ability he uses some really nice technique but he is still a bit raw.

I would draft Spence and Robinson without hesitation if either werevthe best player on the board at their position. I been flamed for this opinion on here before but after a losing season where the ravens clearly are void of talent at key positions I see more peeps are open to the idea. And especially with a coach like Harbs. He seems to get respect from players because of his approach. It is about leadership and proper motivation to make guys want to walk the straight line. Look at the facts when drafting or signing a player. You take a player that is deficient on his skills and he has zero shot of becoming an impact player. You take a guy with skills but a little drama with those skills and he has a shot if your organization can help him keep motivated to succeed. Not to mention ravens have a bargain because the players previous drama has dropped his value. Every shopper should know when to take advantage of sales!! Not to mention when the work put into coaching up the player on and off field pays off it is a bonus. Because you are fronting a pro bowl caliber player where otherwise would be a scrub hurting the team. Say Aldon Smith returns next year focused and working hard. Would not it be great to sit down Scrubshaw for Aldon Smith returned to form he showed under the other harbaugh?? Who would be starting in place of Will Hill??

Food for thought. Another example of Harb's respect came when Bernardo Pierce knew he was getting the axe after he was arrested. I'd swap a fourth rounder to Cleveland and Campanaro for Big talented dummy like Josh Gordon in a New York minute. Gordon should be low on cash and a prove it deal would certainly be in the cards. If wanted to continue eating lavishly or as accustomed to. He'd be more humble. The circus in Manzelland is night and The Ravens.org is day. He'd be amongst men.

Spence is definitely the first player that comes to mind. I can see him going in the late 1st round assuming everything checks out off the field.
