Shareece Wright progressions

53 posts in this topic

Wright has been the most consistent CB since that 49ers game (his first game here).  He's been completely solid.  He'll give up  a pass on occasion but he's playing well.

He needs to be retained next season along with Will Davis, if he's healthy.  The secondary wouldn't be all world but it'd be decent which would allow the front office to focus on the main defensive need.  Pass rushers and a free safety

If we draft Hargreaves we'll be able to move an aging Webb to FS.

The CornerCore would be:

1. Jimmy

2. Hargreaves

3. Wright

4. Webb

5-6: ???

After yesterday's win, we're currently sitting at the #8 pick.  Doubt Hargreaves falls that far.

#8 is around where he's expected to fall to. Edited by Cillmatic

My bad, you're right, I'm thinking Ramsey. Ramsey will be the 1st CB off the board.

The one who can't backpedal? ;) Edited by Cillmatic

He's played decent against decent players. He's a solid player. He's not shutdown but he can tackle at least and limit YAC, which is exactly what we need.

I'd bring him back.

Wright was legitimately excellent versus the Steelers.  Roethlisberger had lots to pick on, but he stuck to Arrington and Jimmy Smith for most of the game.  Despite lousy games against the 49ers and Seahawks, Wright will probably be starting somewhere next season.  Can the Ravens afford for it not to be here?

I've got lots more analysis by defensive alignment and for each member of the secondary here:

Smith had an up-and-down game that was under the microscope with penalties and interceptions, but the biggest problem with the Ravens secondary now is figuring out how to get something from Will HIll.  Hill played just 29 snaps on Sunday and wasn't even on the field for the final desperate lateral play when the Ravens played 6 DBs that included Arrington and Levine.  What the hell does that say about his discipline as a safety?

Wright had a great game today. His coverage on the final pass was PERFECT.

Completely agree with the 4th and 15 play.  It has been truly rare in 2015 that a Raven corner did all of:

1.  Find the football early

2.  Stay stride for stride

3.  Go up for a clean PD with his hand (as opposed to a strip, hit, or forceout)

That's where I'm at. More than happy to admit I was wrong on him. He's definitely turned into solid depth.

That's bizzare, he was our best DB for a while, certainly our best safety.

I can almost guarantee it was just game plan specific. They changed more speed out there versus the steelers, will had pretty good burst but he doesn't have straight line speed or lateral quickness. Especially when on the field with Antonio brown.

I'd be happy if that were the case, but he's missed a lot of snaps in the last few games after being the only every-down DB for a long time.

I think we can agree there is some fundamental gap in his assignment discipline if he was removed for the Steelers' final lateral play, but Arrington and Levine were on.

What is the point of this topic really?

To point out that Shareece Wright has quietly had a very solid season outside of the 49ers game.

Does Shareece Wright get a big payday given the demand for CBs?

Nope. He's been decent-good but he hasn't even been here for a full season.

But isn't he an UFA?

Demand for the position might be high, but he's far from being some big star that'll get a bidding war going. The Ravens will be able to keep him for the low end of the starting CB salary range.

He is, but I still wouldn't expect him to get too much on the open market, if he even gets there.  He doesn't have the greatest track record.  It'd obviously be a risk for us to sign him, but I think it's something we have to do with how in flux our CB group has been.  I don't think he'll come for the minimum of course, but I think he'll be more than affordable for us.

I would take the chance on bringing him back.   He's 28 (or will be 29 I guess during the season) so still young, and got better as the year went on.

As for affording him, we do have something going for us in that he was Jimmy Smith's high school teammate and best friend.  He may want to stay here because of that and Jimmy may be able to convince him to take a reasonable offer to resign.
