2016 Salary Cap & Possible Moves

327 posts in this topic

People are holding Calvin Johnson waayyy too high on a pedestal. Hes good, but his best days are most likely behind him. Hes got some playing years left that could compliment Aiken and Perriman nicely as someone else mentioned.

After cuts, trades, restructuring and other offseason financial maneuvers, there is definitely a chance he can go to the Ravens, as well as any other team. No way he gets the same deal hes currently in on any of the 32 teams. People all over this board constantly hold certain players in a different realm and act likes it impossible they could play in purple. Just restructuring Flaccos contract alone could do serious damage (in a good way) for the offseason.

I agree. Anything is possible and im excited to see how our front office approaches this offseason. I hope its aggressively.

PLEASE keep the draft talk in the Draft Forum. Thank you.

I hear you but the draft does have a lot to do with the 2016 salary cap and possible moves. as long as nobody's doin mocks or anything

Calvin Johnson on the ravens aint possible.

He is still a top tier player and would be the top FA on the market.

We aint winning any bidding war for him and if he wants to win a SB by taking a huge discount there are teams that give him a higher chance then us.

When someone shows up and tries to start a "would you draft...." discussion, it's time for a reminder. :-)

in all honesty... The Patriots make perfect sense. But it's impossible to know what his mindset is. Hell, he could go to the Raiders, they have plenty of cap space and they are going to be damn good soon.

yup if he wants a SB ring then hawks and pats would make a lot more sense then us.

money well the raiders would make the most sense and there are an up and coming team as well.

ravens simply have no cap space and certainly a lot of questions marks in regards to how players will be back from their injury and such.

we definitely don't hold the appeal as a superbowl contender like we used to

we were a strong super bowl favorite just a few months ago. With this top 5 pick if we have a strong draft I imagine we will be right back in contention in 2016. Smart players know this is still one of the top organizations to play for and that this season has been an abberation.

yea we will just have a lot to prove Imo. We have a lot of question marks, I'm still confident though

smart players can also see that our most important players are coming off season ending injuries plus can see we barely have any cap to upgrade the team in FA not to mention we might loose 2 of our better players in FA as well with tucker and osemele.

Top FA on the market would be a stretch, but he's probably still making $11, 12M per year with what ever new team it may be and that's not the type of money the Ravens have.

I've said it long ago, but the Raiders make the most sense. Derek Carr has taken huge strides, they have Amari Cooper, and they have really strong building blocks on defense. They could make a range strong push for him and become legit contenders in the AFC

We would have to overpay for him. We're a bad team now. Sadly we have no money to pay him or anyone really. Ozzie has to be impeccable this draft and we need new fresh coaching everywhere under John. Why would Calvin want to come from the lions to the Ravens to win a super bowl.

I hope we find the money for Weddle.

At this point i see no way we make that happen

unless we reach a deal with him the tag will be the only option.....

whats the going rate right now for a franchised tag kicker?

well, according to another poster here, that puts over our cap limit.  Even though hes having a down year, i hope we can get a long term deal

yup.

so we have to hope we get a deal done with him or flacco deal gets done so we can tag him or he will probably walk.

as he should.  It is a business and he is one of the best kickers, he deserves to get paid like one.

I would love to have him here but we got no shot honestly. If we did get him, it would be our biggest free agency signing ever. Calvin? Steve Smith Sr.? And add Perriman too?! With our two TEs in Gilmore and Williams?! Yeah, its a wrap.

Even with that,i'd like ozzie to add something to our future down the line to go alongside Perriman by getting Boyd/Doctson in the draft in the 2nd. B)

I highly doubt we don't retain Tucker, whether that's on the tag or not.

I thought that too but he's having a down year and the front office needs to be wary of who they give long term contracts too from now on so I wouldn't be shocked to see him walk.

I don't think the Raiders will be the team. IMO they have Cooper who they surely will believe will be #1 very soon, and Michael Crabtree has them convinced to be a viable #2 and they gave him money to be one. Shockingly, the Raiders has actually made smart F.O decisions lately. They don't go after guys and overpay them anymore, and like to use the draft to build on the team. I don't think they are the type of team to go after Calvin hard, if there is one team in my mind who would go after him, I would probably say the Bucs, or the Rams are a team that would go after him.

People need to start being realistic. We're one of the worst teams in the league cap wise. We're not aren't signing Weddle. We're not signing Calvin. We might not even be able to sign Garçon.

Seems like a waste of money to pay a kicker that much. Tucker wasn't even drafted.  We can get someone out of college making the minimum.  He might not be as good as Tucker but a high paid kicker is a luxury we can't afford with all the holes in the team we have.

All relative. For starters, most kickers in this league aren't drafted. Secondly, the highest paid kickers aren't even paid that well. We pay our backup QBs about the same as we pay our kickers.

There is an excellent chance we wont be able to afford to re-sign Tucker. He will command top $$$ and we simple don't have it!

Top dollar meaning $4-5M, which you already acknowledged previously that we DO have.

If a team really needed the money to sign a kicker, they'd find a way. You can cut one player and free up the space for a kicker.

Not really worth discussing. There's very little chance he won't be a Raven in 2016.
