Ravens to switch back to natural grass in 2016

Breaking all over twitter.

Ravens will switch to natural grass surface at M&T Bank Stadium in 2016

Cass: Baltimore is "old school football town," "natural grass is more consistent with the way ... we play football."

I wonder if they've resolved the issues that made it impossible to grow grass in the stadium after October?

Just saw a tweet from @Ravens that they're switching out to a grass field.

I'm surprised about this. Considering all of the issues we've recently seen w/ grass fields, I'm surprised the organization is going this route.  We probably beat SF if it wasn't for their horrible field causing Tucker to basically plant his foot in a sinkhole.

Maybe this will help tucker with his feild goal percentage at home. Now If only they could find a way to keep the wind from circulating through the stadium.

I always liked playing on grass more than turf. Cass said the studies show players are more likely to get hurt on turf than grass. He also said that the players wanted this change. I'm okay with this.

Sounds good to me. Hopefully can help eliminate some of the ankle and knee injuries. Turf is too easy to get your cleats stuck in.

I know that some of the other stadiums have heaters under the turf.  With the bitter cold weather, that could possibly be a solution to growing in the Winter mnths.  Should be interesting..  Going backwards isn't always a bad thing.

Lambeau uses under ground pipe heating, Kentucky Blue grass with Desso grassmaster fiber in the soil to keep it together give the grass roots support. should be able to replicate to what is needed here. Hopefully it can reduce the volume of injuries we have seen.

One of the smartest, proactive moves we've made. There will be several teams who follow based on the injuries, accidental sythetic-particle comsumptions, enviromental controls and unreliable cost savings estimates of many turf stadiums.

The problem was lack of daylight due to the layout of the stadium. They think they've found a solution: They found a different strain of grass, from a sod farm in North Carolina that are a mixture of Burmuda and some rye grass, that they believe will be more robust than what they previously used in the stadium. The Ravens also plan to use artificial light to keep grass growing where the field is shaded.

That wind is brutal.lol

Natural grass seems good to me. Whatever they think is best.

Seems like a no-brainer. Grass is aesthetically pleasing, the coaches want it, the players want it, we have the technology, it reduces injuries..

Plus now guys can pluck the grass like Ray used to without having to grow a chia-pet and keep it near the tunnel xD

Honestly I say take a vote from the Raven players and do what they want. They are the guys playing on the field not the front offices not the coaches and not the owner. Try to make the players as comfortable as possible. I like the grass idea but I am not a player.

Oh great. Now people here are gonna blame the trainers, doctors AND the grounds keepers for our losses.

When I play sports, grass was far preferred for me.

Turf is just far harder, causing more pressure on the joints with just natural running, and it hurts a hell of a lot more to get slammed down on.

I imagine that this will cause far less injuries

I also hated turf. It's so unnatural. No cushion at all. I guess it's good for doing a quick cut, but I liked grass best.

Never felt as sore when I was coming off of grass

Being a grass farmer just sounds so odd lol
