ill be surprised with a mediocre season..

So yay?!? Baseball is back

Me, too, since I expect better than that.  Yes, our starting pitching sucks, but our bullpen and bats are pretty awesome.  All we need is for the starting pitchers to not poop the bed and let the bullpen take over. We can definitely win some with the bats.

You can win some this way, but not enough to go anywhere.

That would depend.

If you recall, where was our great starting pitching staff in 2014 when we made it to the ALCS?

This team looks quite similar from what I'm seeing... big, power hitting lineup and quality bullpen.

AL in particular has a lot of weak starting pitching staffs, and I'd argue there's really only maybe 1-2 good one's in the whole AL.

Nothing this team does will surprise me. We could be the worst team in the AL East, or we could win the division and make a playoff run.

And, after our woeful start to the pre-season, the team really picked it up the last few weeks.  Ended up 11-15 and a bunch of ties.

Hyun Soo Kim knows the Orioles are in an impossible predicament.

Baltimore signed the Korean outfielder to a two-year, $7 million contract this offseason, but he went 8-for-44 (.182) this spring without an extra-base hit. The Orioles hoped to option Kim to Triple-A to give him more time to adjust to baseball in the States. But he is not having it.

“Kim would like to see his contract honored and executed faithfully,” his representatives, Leeco Sports Agency, said in a statement to the Korean media. “He also hopes to receive fair opportunities to continue his career as a major leaguer with Baltimore.”

And Kim holds all the leverage: His contract states he cannot be demoted without his consent. Which means the Orioles can keep Kim with the big-league team, or release him and be out their $7 million.

GM Dan Duquette originally decided to go with Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard over Kim. Now, according to MLB.com, the Orioles’ final roster spot is TBD.

“It was a razor-thin roster call choosing another player given Kim’s distinguished track record,” Duquette told MLB.com before Kim fought back. “It is a short transition period to adjust to coming to Baltimore. I wish we had more time.”

Heres what i say,,, GO TELL IT TO THE JUDGE!

Now kim signed that contract..If he doesn't play for the orioles organization he will be forced to give that money back by law! The only option Kim has is request a trade. He simply cannot take that money to South Korea. Kim doesn't understand what a contract is in America. Lets say for example you rent an apartment. Now before you rent an apartment you must agree to terms and conditions on the lease. The landlord makes all the rules. And on your lease it says no weapons of any kind. And your apartment got robbed 3 times and cops didn't catch him. And you decide to buy a gun. And the crook came back tried to rob your apartment and you shot him. And you're not charged cause its self defense. But your landlord will evict you because you violated your terms and conditions. Remember John Elway was drafted by the Colts? Well he chose to play baseball after he was drafted. He's only choice was ether play for the Colts to ask for a trade and lucky Elway was traded to Denver and that worked out well.  Thats the only option Kim has. He cannot take that money home with him. Its simply against the law.

I mean, except for the fact that his contract is fully guaranteed...

But in every contract there are terms and conditions. Even this forum has term and conditions. Just ask Mod 3 But kim cannot just walk away and take the money without playing a game. If it was that easy sign and take things them people would be getting home mortgages for free without bank taking it back. Its called business. Kim cannot just walk away and take the money. They're laws against that.

He can because that's what his contract states.  Kim gets $7M regardless of whether he plays for us or not.  The only way we can save any of that is if we agree to a buyout and a Korean, or any other team, take him and offer to pay some of the salary.  Kim's contract states he can't go to the minors.  The $7M was fully guaranteed so he gets that no matter if he plays a game for us ever or not.  The options right now are keep him, not play him, and it costs $7 or release him and still pay $7M.

They aren't comparable because when Kim signed, we guaranteed him all $7M dollars.  As soon as he signed on that line, before ever playing a game, he became entitled to $7M.

Why is L.J. H0es an Oriole and not a Norfolk Tide? He dropped a fly ball should have been caught that cost the O's 3 runs in 8th almost lost the game for us. This is why I'm so against Buck Showalter. If i owned the O's he would been fired last season. Buck Showalter is not like Mets manager Terry Collins. Two years ago the Mets were one of the worst teams in Baseball and Terry Collins turned them into World Series contenders. Buck Showalter is no EARL WEAVER. If any played screwed up in Spring Training back in Earls days he would tell them you just earned a trip to Rochester. Remember Tom Shopay? Earl was tough on him..He was playing great for Rochester that Earl promoted him back in 1973 but the following season when he struck out to many times in Spring Training Earl sent him back down to Rochester. so,,,,, Why is  L.J. H0es an Oriole and not an Norfolk Tide?

women has already been reassigned to minor league camp.

"#orioles reassign Beato, women, Janish, Redmond, Tolleson. Option Pena. Also, confirm Phillips and Roe outrighted to AAA Norfolk"

Because we don't like warning people; it's a pain in the butt.  We also don't want to read the profanity.  Best to just let the software do its job and tweek it as necessary.

Only complaint is when I've typed the name of a certain sporting goods store but I get why it's blocked.

I would say that our starting pitching was better in 2014. Of course there is no way to really compare now since the season hasn't even started yet.

I hope I'm wrong and I do think there is a chance they could pull something off this season, I just don't think it is likely. If they do make it to the playoffs, I will happily eat my words. :D

All that money they spent. If they don't succeed this season then Buck gets fired. And Dempsey becomes new O's manager. He keep -Yacking  on MASN every night like he knows things. Well if he knows so much maybe he should be in the dugout writing batting line ups pitching rotation and manage the game. Maybe the O's will play better with Rick Dempsey. Hey its working for the Mets and those NY Fans love Terry Collins. Ill even bet Hal Steinbrenner will try to get Terry Collins. Cause Hal Steinbrenner is cheap like Angelos is. When was the last time the Yankees won a penneat?

I'm pretty sure we fixed Dick's Sporting Goods.

Look at this Chart..Some of it came from one of the worst trades

Orioles_40_Man_Roster_Diagram.0.png

Like Jake Arretta for Steve Clevenger.   Jake Arretta is now the best pitcher in Baseball THANKS MR ANGELOS!!

Well, in his defense, there wasn't a single Orioles fan who was unhappy to see Arrietta leave. He did absolutely nothing as a starter in Baltimore for three years.

In 334 IP, he had a career ERA of 5.34 in this town.

Even the Cubs are surprised about how well he's pitched.

This is purely a hindsight analysis, which never accomplishes anything.
