I do not believe Fowler's agent. He could have told everyone that there was no deal two days ago but said nothing. I also do not believe Adam Jones is lying when he said that Fowler told him he was excited to be joining the team. Something seems shady to me on their end, not the O's. It just goes to show you agreements do not mean anything, but it is what it is. I am bummed but I guess I will get over it.

Yeah exactly. They both definitely decided last second to back out.

Still funny that he declined more money and years from both Cubs and Orioles for a smaller contract in the end. like what.

I know I shouldn't, but I'm going to reply anyway.

1.  Dexter Fowler signed with the Cubs today.

2.  You say you want a guy that has a high OBP and OPS, yet strike down Markakis.  That's exactly what Markakis was.

Someone just doesn't understand baseball.

So we still need a right fielder! :(

No way Chris Davis and Adam Jones lied about this. Fowler's agent is a jerk.

I disagree with Chris Hoiles the greatest O's catcher. Rick Dempsey is the greatest and Pitcher Urban Shocker? Comon,,I think Dave McNally was better than Urban Shocker. Ken Williams outfielder? Wrong!! Frank Robinson is better than Ken Williams

Hilarious story on the sad end of an era: No more pies

Now there's hardly any reason to watch the post-game show.  I know a lot of fans who stay up just for that.  It'll probably hirt viewership.

Thank you for mentioning Harold Baines. And most definitely Dempsey over Hoiles..I'd go Weiters over Hoiles anyway.

I read that this morning, but since there is some potential for an injury (especially to an eye), I can't say that it is a bad decision. It will probably take some fun away for the players and the fans, but I bet they figure out something else fun to replace it.

Does anyone think the Orioles could get something going again with Cincy for a trade for Jay Bruce? He is a good right fielder, has decent power at the plate, but I admit Dexter Fowler was the leadoff hitter we really needed. We could always use a guy who has major league experience, has a decent glove, and has the potential to hit over 30 homeruns. Would this be a good fit or am I just feeling desperate after losing out on Fowler?

Well Teams are still doing that Champagne shower every time they win the pennant. Why not MLB ban that too?

lol......I always felt sorry for the poor person stuck with cleaning up all that mess up. Most of the time they try to put plastic up over the lockers but that does not really work as well as people think it does. I hear that most of the time when they finish cleaning up, the sun is coming up the following morning. It probably adds insult to injury when they win on the road. I always thought it would probably be better to bring the champagne out to the field, but I know that MLB has a rule about players having alcoholic beverages on the field. I also heard stories where they started to put plastic up at the end of a close game and the players got upset and started yelling that it was going to jinx them. Those poor people just can't win :)

Orioles rumors: O's inquired about getting Nick Markakis back from Braves

When the Orioles didn't re-sign Nick Markakis after he became a free agent last year, there was a decent reason to believe they could replace his production at a fraction of the cost. The Orioles outfield situation did not end up validating this belief. It's not like they would have suddenly been a playoff team if they only had Markakis, but it wouldn't have hurt, and with right field still unsettled, there's still some wistful longing on the part of O's fans for the player who was once here.

That longing has persisted all through this offseason too, as much as it's seemed ridiculous to ponder that the O's might try to get back a guy for three years of a contract they didn't want to give out in the first place. Would the O's actually try to make a reunion happen? It seems too out there to believe, and yet, according to Peter Gammons, they at least made a token attempt:

Orioles are in agreement with Pedro Alvarez. We might not be able to pitch, but that's a terrifying lineup in terms of power.

I agree, we are going to hit a lot of balls out of the park.

Wow, our new outfielder Kim is now 0 for 21 at bats. Gallardo gives up two double and a homerun in his first inning pitching for us. We are the only team without a win yet. Can this spring go any worse?

We did tie a game.  It was the first or second one.

lol seems most sports websites don't recognize ties. Probably less embarrassing they don't considering our amount of wins to losses.
