Orioles Off-Season 2015-2016

By now everyone has probably heard that Wieters signed his tender, an almost unheard of action.

A lot of action yesterday, though.

The following is all from Roch Kubatko:

OF Nolan Reimold agreed to terms, joining Vance Worley #orioles

Flaherty, Machado, Trumbo, Britton, Tillman, Brach, Gonzalez and Matusz were tendered contracts #orioles

#orioles and Nolan Reimold settled at $1.3 mil, per sources

The Orioles announced their trade with the Mariners and set up a conference call with executive vice president Dan Duquette and first baseman/outfielder Mark Trumbo. They traded for catcher Francisco Pena, the son of former major league catcher and current Yankees coach Tony Pena. They confirmed that the Mariners claimed infielder Andy Wilkins off waivers, because these teams can't quit each other.

They non-tendered pitcher Steve Johnson, infielder Paul Janish and outfielder David Lough, which basically worked the same as being designated for assignment. They signed pitcher Vance Worley to a $2.6 million contract to avoid arbitration. They signed outfielder Nolan Reimold to a $1.3 million deal to avoid arbitration. They tendered contracts to their eight remaining arbitration-eligible players.

I was just glad to hear Dan D. state in the article on Trumbo that he had some money to spend and was going to do his best to make the O's competitive. I hope he means it.

O'Day is likely to sign with the Nationals

The Orioles won't offer Davis the contract value he's seeking

Chen is almost assuredly a goner

Despite a need for someone like Hayward, he's not going to be in the Orioles price range

Puig is on the block, but I doubt the Orioles want to trade someone like Gausman or Bundy

Another year, another piss poor Orioles team that'll be hard to watch

Gonna really miss O'Day. Don't understand why we don't pony up the money for him.

Peter Angelos has the payroll right now to pay out something like $250M and still comfortably make a profit, but he uses less than $100M of it. He's cheap and he doesn't want to spend money to make money. You don't think more people would pack the stadiums if the Orioles had a Hayward and Greinke on their team?

They won't be good until they get a new owner, which is odd because Angelos is actually highly philanthropic and gives quite a bit of money to the city of Baltimore.

I've sat across the table from Angelos and his people. He's a mostly heartless, slow moving businessman. He is methodical and conservative to the point that it's a detriment to his business growth. Clearly he is a smart and successful man, but the level of success he could have with just a few subtle changes or tweaks is amazing. He will always be this way. It's sad for Orioles fans to have to deal with this guy...then you have Bisciotti.

Thrilled with the news of resigning Oday. Already a better offseason than last year.

It's almost as big as Millers deal. Surprising since we couldn't resign him instead, but it sounds like Oday really wanted to stay here, mostly due to Buck.... It's 4 years, 31M. He had other offers with Nats, Braves & Dodgers.

Well, re-signing O'Day is obviously a massive deal and the fact that he chose to stay here over the Nats... well, that's awesome..

The Orioles have a projected payroll of now a little over $100M. That's gonna be it for any big moves.

Angelos could easily spend $100-$150M more, I'm sure, but that won't happen, even if it means losing Davis and not securing a quality corner fielder... at either spot, really.

Sounds like Chris and his agent are shooting for the stars with his next contract.

Really surprised that he didnt take the 150 million 7 year deal, but then again, he mentioned he did not want to return to the club once Markakis walked. If he is going to let this deal sit, I don't see us resigning him...O's need to put a time frame on that and wash their hands of it.

WE NEED PITCHING!!

Personally hoping Chris walks and we can put that money elsewhere.

Supposedly, the O's have placed a time limit on their offer. I want to keep Davis, but not for more than 150 million. If he wants more, I'm okay with him leaving.

Conflicting reports out there now. One says we upped the offer to 168 million, while another says we took the offer off the table. We shall see!

And yes...we need pitching.

I like Davis as well, but I think at 150 its even pushing value anymore is a mistake. Trumbo should be able to fill in nicely.

Oh well! Im happy we legitimately attempted. It's on Davis for rejecting a contract of that magnitude.

I'll be thrilled with Upton and Kasmir.

$200M? Where does Davis get the idea he's worth that much? We complain about Angelos being cheap but man good thing he didn't pony up the extra $50M for Davis. I agree with the others, use that money to get some pitching.

Just give me Pedro Alvarez and a pitcher for that money.  I think Alvarez could put up similar numbers in Camden Yards.  I'm not sure he leads the league in homers, but for the cost difference, I'll go Alvarez all day.

I have interest in Justin Upton too but I really don't know where his price will come in.

What's more pathetic...

Orioles last offseason or Ravens this season?

Hoping for a little better offseason this time O's

We signed Hyun-Soo Kim, the Korean OF/1B, to a 2 year, $7M deal.  I like the move.  He knows how to work a count and god knows we need that in this lineup.  I don't know how he'll transition here, but the price isn't bad at all for a flyer.

Yeah, I do too. The guy does not swing at bad pitches.

I hope we can pick up a decent starting pitcher or at least bring Chen back. I still think I would like to see Davis back. His price tag may be too high for all the strike outs but he has really developed into a decent fielder and the guys in the clubhouse really like him and he seems to be a fan favorite.

Yup. From everything I've seen, this looks like a smart move.

I knew we were never really gonna go after him but wow. Chen is seeking 5 years, 100 mill.

I'm sure one could guess who his agent is...

Same guy Chris Davis has?

Yes. Profanity filter won't let me post my nickname for him.

I think 154 million/seven years is a strong offer. The waiting is annoying me though. Of course I only own two jerseys, Markakis and Davis, so I probably jinxed that deal. :(
